I suppose the best recording of the arpeggione. Feuermann was a genius, he playd cello like a pianist piano.
The greatest cellist of the XXth century. Thank you for sharing!
A recording of the century. Many thanks for posting.
Very big thank you, Mr Contrary Motion. ! It's a wonderful recording. Part of the reason for that is that back then they played their heart out in the studio much in the way of live performance. No remakes, editing, or dubbing.
Beautiful. Thank you.
Feurmann playing Schumann's Arpeggione Sonata is a feast for both the ears and the mind! Wonderful!!
"Schubert", Mr.!
Most modern recordings sentimentalise the work. Not feuerman who maintains perfect classical poise and balance. Also should be mentioned his extraordinary intonation which is just perfect in its expressiveness -it’s so touching.
Excuse me, for one time, I shall not tell you what for extraordinary hours I had with this recording.
10 or 15 times in the whole night.
Hours of secret, confidence.
Moments of night and desire.
Music not too loud (for one time) , loneliness in the middle of dark forests, quiet fire and shadows in the lonely house
For my mother, a professional cellist in Antonia Brico's New York Women's Symphony Orchestra, Feurmann was a god.
So beautiful, and the great pity is that if you haven't already heard of Feuermann and know to look for this recording, it doesn't come up in TH-cam's browser.
TY
In vain you would look for a modern imitation of such a quality...
I think it is perfect, i like it more then rostropovoch playing
🎉

Beginning after the Era and influence of, e.g., Feurmn., Primrose, Haifetz-Kogan-Oistr., Moore-Balsomb (sp?), a new but very stupid and insipid way of string instrument and overall ensemble playing came about. I call it the "Moaning Violins". Players started plastering EVERY DAMN bow stroke with a crescendo and a muddy increase in vibrato. Modem Conductors have abetted this. FEURM. represents the old world: grace, linearity/arc of phrase, self composure, and singing-ness!
This is a huge obsession, and I connect it with post-1970 general worldwide drift twd cultural insanity !!!!!!
