Sam, if your comparing the model 3 performance against the ex30 twin motor, which would be within .1 sec for 0-100. as of today - Aussie pricing for the tesla performance driveaway is $90k. the ex30 twin motor is $73k driveaway. that is a $17k difference. not $1k. i mention this because the standard model 3 is 0-100 in 6.1 seconds, in case thats what you were comparing.

Totally agree with your comments regarding HUD. Once you have one, you rarely look at the instrument binnacle. The only missing feature in my model 3 that I think should be included as standard is a HUD, but have fitted an aftermarket device. BTW, have done the same with all of our family cars.

I just wanted to say a big thank you on making such practical videos with great analysis. You don’t just talk about specs, which as a non-car person, I don’t really understand.
Your analysis really breakdown the specs into really world application which I really appreciate.
I put in an order an order for XC40 recharge last year and was thinking of cancelling to order the EX30 because of the value. May concern was about the size. And your video is literally the only video that gave me any practical comparisons on size and the usage. I think I’m going to stick with the XC40 as I want something a bit bigger.
Anyway, just wanted to say ‘Great job!!!’ Really enjoying your videos, even for a non-car person. 😊

I expect one reason for the screen being vertical is that there are climate control vents on both sides. (It's also vertical on the EX90.) As to it being a bit porky I'm guessing that was demanded by the engineers to produce a door thunk worthy of a Volvo.

Volvo's in the 50', 60's, 70's and early 80's used to be rear wheel drive, my grandfather had a 1973 Volvo P1800 wagon in Puerto Rico and it was rear wheel drive and it's style of rear opening window looked like what it now called a shooting brake. He kept it for 24 years and every where he drive it it always attracted a small crowd of people saying they could believe that it was a Volvo. I really wished that Volvo made a modern BEV take on the P1800 wagon. Still modern Volvo's do look much better than what they used to look in the past, way nicer indeed 👍, and the new line up of Volvo BEV'S all look good 👍.

I had a 2006 Scion (Toyota) xB in the US, which had view screens and controls in the center of the dashboard. No instrument panel directly in front of the driver. The 2004 to 2006 xB's were like this, and the re-engineered larger version 2008 to 2015 also had only center dashboard instrument panel with controls. I had no problems with this dashboard setup, and really liked that car. I later turned it over to my younger niece and her husband, who also really liked the car.

I think in Europe the smaller volvo is the smarter choice, because the roads and parking are smaller. Tesla model 3 and Y look actually quite big and cluncky on the European roads. Tesla model S and X are simply huge cars.
What I would like to see though is that the front bonnet gets smaller and compensated for more interior space, similar to what VW is doing with their ID3 Cupra Born and ID buzz. I think the huge front bonnet design is getting old fast.
I think the only minor issue I have with the eX3 is the rear passenger space is small, at least what I've see in current first impression reviews so far. I don't understand why automakers can do better with that. In my view the beste compromise is making the rear bench as a sliding bench standard. This was you can more easily choose leg room over bootlace. I think that is more practical in daily use case, than a fixed space with smaller boot and rear passenger space. In that case I think all those cars have a design flaw.

    Regarding weight of a car...
I actually prefer a car to be a bit on the heavier side as long as that does not kill the range or performance.
Makes it steadier on icy roads in the winter time.
I actually switched into a heavier car once and bought it for that reason primarly since I was to commute daily about 250 km on a fast highway at winter time.

Another review of the Volvo took length/width measurements of the boot and they were better than I was expecting. I wonder if the 61L under the "floor" is NOT included in the stated litres volume? Those figures usually only go up to the cargo blind, so being a hatchback, you'll get the extra space above that compared to a sedan.

Sorry Sam, I have to disagree on this one. Those of us that love hot hatches truly care far more about agility and handling than straight-line speed. It takes zero skill to accelerate from the lights and Its more for those who like bragging at the pub about how fast their car is. Driving along coastal or mountain roads is still a highlight for many of us that value driving dynamics and although we are a massive minority, we are a big portion of the hot hatch buyer market. The Alpine A290 will fit the bill.

Hi, loved this video. Will hopefully get one before the end of 2023.
I have only recently discovered your channel so may be talking out of turn, but I'm wondering, why you don't discuss more in your videos about the environmental aspects/ethical considerations of the cars you review? I don't mean as regards the emissions once on the road but aspects such as human rights abuses (cobalt mining by children in the DRC, pollution affecting health of community in battery manufacture areas in China, Urghur, Tibetan etc forced labour in factories etc) involved in their manufacture. Volvo surpasses all other brands I think, in accountability at various stages of production which was why I was interested in one from the start. Cars in general are bad in terms of carbon footprint but Volvo are best. The price was prohibitive before but with the EX30 they are more affordable.

ALSO the volvo ex30 is a more complete car and has things like: ambient light, more powerful Wireless charging, better sound system from harman kardon, better cameras because tesla cameras are just ok, also self parking probably coming as standard.

City parking! You forgot city parking! European cities require a certain compactness, parking spaces are often standardized to 5m max, and too many expensive EVs are 5m. Can't park. But this car has all the benefits of compact while offering more range than a Mini or Fiat500 (which have great cabrio's - wonder if that is coming) .... Success with the treatments! And an less you go for the top spec EX30 you don’t get all the safety features either. A full spec EX30 Singel motor extended rang has about the same performance and about the same range as Model 3 (sr). But if you want the same safety features you have to pay more.
