Realize the towel was to protect your freshly painted column, but what a PITA having it hanging in the way. Should mention that there is a channel that harness rides in going over the column. It can be a PITA trying to keep it in place while positioning the dash. 2 ppl make a lot easier. None the less, well done
The moment the dash dropped, and he went “ohuh.” I felt that moment. I’ve had it. A few worries go through my head when I make a sound like that. Hoping for the best. 😂
"It's allot of work" - well not really "work", but time. It takes allot of time, and you have to be cautious. The Dash and it's components are inherently fragile. The new dash is also a sticker shock item, so you don't want to gorilla muscle the project. Pulling the steering column out (9 screws/bolts) will make this job immensity easier, and a good time to replace the rag joint, and any column work needed.
@@motortopiaondemand right. I have a 98 GMC shorty truck. I was fortunate to find one before the price going up. I was 2020 when I bought the truck. I was thinking about what should I do with my Trump checks. I wanted to invest between buying stocks I.E crypto or a classic. I don't know anything about stocks so I stuck with what I know. Plus can't take your stocks out for a drive. You build is coming out nice.
I used SEM Color Coat and tried to match the original color the best I could. I ended up using Medium Dark Pewter for the dash and Storm Gray for the rest of the interior.
@@motortopiaondemand Oh, so the dash didn't come the correct color? I thought I saw on their website that they sell the dash in the different colors? My dash is cracked only in the right speaker grilles left corner, down through the top where the grille attaches. My grille is missing the metal clips and it was just sitting in place. Right speaker was blown, so I ordered a stock replacement. Gone are the days of car audio for me a this point. A lot of work.

I have done 2 of these remove steering column and have the harness on the dash already goes a lot quicker
That's a great tip. Thank you for sharing.

Man it was a lot of work! lol Way more than I thought it would be but well worth it.
What did you use to prep the dash before painting?

Did the dash come that color?
Where did you get the plastic panel with the storage thing that goes over the two vents on the desk
How difficult would it be to swap a 94 dash onto a 98?

Hey, where did you get the center vent bezel with a pocket? I can only find them without one
I found that at a swap meet. It was from a work truck model.
@@motortopiaondemand ok thank you
I had my made with a 3d printer and slipped it in with the after market radio pulled out. Looks awesome!
Did you use the LMC paint for the dash? If so can you list the LMC part #. I’m looking to do the same color on mine.

Did you use the SEM adhesion promoter on any of the interior plastics prior to painting them?
Lol wow
