I love D'Angelico guitars. Earlier this year, I was at music festival in my state. Many of the bands were playing D'Angelico guitars. This was the first time seeing them in the context of folk, country, alt-rock, America, and even bluegrass. I was so impressed I played many at a local shop, then fell in love with the bob weir Bedford. D'Angelico are incredible guitars. I sold my les paul to then afford another D'Angelico, the premier DC.
Demo'd this model on a whim a couple years back. Almost walked out of the store with it that day. I was so impressed. I still think about the "what if" if I had taken it home
I have the brighton premiere and I love it. It is such a versatile guitar and quite frankly, one of the most beautiful guitars I've ever laid my eyes on. Love to upgrade to the deluxe one day but I love the sounds I get out of this thing.
This is my favorite guitar of yours, Ive never heard of that model before. I wish I had one too now lol! It sounds really good and it looks like this guitar inspires you.
That was a great review of the D'Angelico using the the Gibson LP as a comparator. I have not played the Brighton but I have played the Excell SS and. it was beautiful and surprising versatile. I loved your playing too. A great feel Mike. Peace.
The coil split thing with Les Pauls is actually still a thing. It wasn’t “everybody” not liking it. It was older players who were & are small minded people. My Les Pauls have coil splits. Now if Gibson actually pushed more for younger players & try to hit different audiences that would be really awesome. You new guitars are rad. I love that brand. I’m also in love with Knaggs guitars.
That's a massive generalisation, some older players might not like it but I'd guess some younger players might not too. If anyone is being small minded it is you.
Gibson needs to market more towards the hardcore crowd. I see a lot of young hardcore/post-hardcore bands playing Les Pauls. Gibson has their niche and they are just ignoring them.
I've always been a Les Paul guy for as long as I can remember. My main guitar is this standard 60's in ice tea burst that I've modded to hell and back (57Classic in the neck, SD Hot-Rod in the bridge, and added in in phase/out of phase switch). The other guitar player in the band that I'm in uses a D'Angelico Brighton for pretty much everything, and when I picked it up I was instantly surprised how good the clean was. It played beautifully and I understood why he uses it, its an awesome guitar!
Your playing continues to get better and better Mike keep up the hard work. I hope one day you try a Girl n Les Paul, classic. Mine came with coil splits and in and out of phase. It was like it was unlimited on tones
My “Les Paul” is a Reverend Roundhouse RA. The tone+bass contour really can shape the humbuckers from full to mini to split without losing the hum-cancelling. Plus it’s got standard locking tuners, and a slightly more offset shape. I also like that the pickup switch isn’t in the way like on a Les Paul (yeah, I’m that much of a dork while playing I’ll whack that switch on singlecut Les Paul, I grew up with a strat, gimme a break.)
Big fan of my Les Paul Custom, but the Eastman Gibson-ES copies caught my attention aswell. Tried some of them, they played really well for a fraction of the price.
Ever Played A Gibson ES-335 or a Gibson ES-345 or a Gibson ES-355 or a Gibson B. B. King Lucille or a Epiphone Casino or a Squier Mini P-Bass? And that there is a nice D'Angelico Brighton Electroc Guitar
My Les Paul alternative is a Godin Summit Convertible CT. It has Seymour Duncan P-Rails pickups so you have the best of all worlds with the humbucker, single coil and P-90 sounds at the flick of a switch. Godin flies under the radar but makes such great North American guitars at half the price of a Gibson.
$1700 is just a tad expensive for a guitar made in Korea. But overall the guitar looks really good. I'm not familiar with the Seth Lover pickups. What would consider their output/capabilities are?
Very cool guitar! I’d love to hear your thoughts on the Yamaha Revstar. I have the H/H version and it’s definitely been a LP killer! I’m really wanting the p90 version
I just bought the Atlantic version of that guitar. The premier in ox blood color. I'm waiting for it to arrive. Purchase from Sweetwater. Those guitar SUPER GORGEOUS!!
I played my 79 electra with emg on stage for 10 yrs only thing i played now i only play telecaster and stratocaster weird but t style with a sshh is my jam ...nice guitar brother
D’angelico’s r pretty sick. Got my Bedford sh not too long ago and it quickly became my favorite of my guitars, beating out my tele, strat, and casino (at least for myself personally). Their creatively vintage/modern look is refreshing in todays guitar market, and their neck-through construction is to die for. Highly recommend!!
i've got one too lol in fact, I got one in 2021, sold it in 2022 and bought another one in 2023. I won't be selling this again cause I love it lol I bought a jag after and I still go straight back to the Bedford SH. it's extremely comfortable to me
D'Angelico Came back into business at a namm like a decade ago Maybe . I think I first heard of them in like 2015 maybe 2014 . They are an actual old american guitar company founded in New York.
Back in the day they were very expensive. That company went out of business. Now I think they make them in the far east, so they are more affordable, but still look and sound amazing.
I acquired a D'Angelico Premier SS with no F holes in a trade. This guitar is from 2017 and is LP shape but semi-hollow. I did need some fret and nut work, but it plays like dream. This is a real blues and classic rock machine.
I love my Les Paul and rewired it to standard but it is just one flavour in about a dozen electrics I own. I like cooking and keep a big supply of spices too! That Brighton (the UK Brighton is 15 miles from me) is really it's own thing, maybe a hint of Ibanez Artist but some really unique features.
I bought the Premier Brighton for $499 last year . I gutted the electronics & put CTS pots, switchcraft switch & Jack, bone nut & Seth Lover pickups. Doesn’t need locking tuners. I have $825 in the guitar & it’s great. I guess they can call the pickups in the Deluxe whatever they want & I’m sure they are good quality, but they aren’t true Seth Lovers, which are not splittable & A2 magnet. Seth Lovers are my favorite pickups ❤ I like the Brighton guitar !
My Gibson LP Modern has the splits and can do amazing cleans. The D'Angelico is a cool guitar but it is not a LP killer. It has its own thing going. I liked how it worked for jazz a lot. I wouldn't choose it over my les paul for rock or blues.
i have a deluxe atlantic and i love it for jazz / rnb / neo soul, it has its own unique sound and it really grew on me. I looked it up and the only difference between the atlantic and the brighton is the double cutaway, at least to my knowledge. so i basically have this guitar too even tho i dont lol
I like my Gibson LP but I do find myself usually just picking up my Dean Icon just because it’s more comfortable.. I would love one of the customs of course with comfort cuts but I am not nearly skilled enough to justify the cost, it was hard enough for the LP.. I’d really like something more comfortable.. Maybe I should just sell the LP
Great when you find a guitar that works great and does most / everything you want. I have a D'Angelico EXL-1 jazzbox, would like a B-Style eventually. My go to guitar that does everything (could use a floating trem tho) is EBMM Kaizen 6.
I knew when I saw the YT thumbnail and the video title you were going to show us a D'Angelico guitar, lol. It's kinda odd how these guitars seem to fly under most people's radar. I still love my Les Paul Standard but for me the D'Angelico scratches a different itch.
I had an Atlantic premiere that I Sold ( pick up was too dark ) and I have now a Bedford deluxe which I love it. Apart the shape of the body which is REALLY uncomfortable to play sitting down.... the sound is amazing and that Mini-Hb at the bridge is incredible. In any case ... D'angelico has the best neck ever ... slim, small and tall frets. It's so easy to play.
I have got the D'Angelico mini DC (black and tortoise PG too) and it's a very versatile guitar. Well made, light with a great playability. I want this one now ;)
I’ve had pretty bad experience with their quality control. The little gold piece in the middle of the headstock is crooked, frets popped out, and faulty wiring. It was on a special edition color 1/50 as well so super disappointing
That is a very nice guitar. I always wanted the Les Paul Signature (semi-hollow, 335 style) but couldn't afford one when they came out, then went to teles and strats in 1980 and have never owned another Gibson since. I still would love to have a Signature, but I really can't afford one (of the originals) now!
Eric Krasno is a fantastic and notable player of the Deluxe Brightons. He had a signature model with his own custom Seymour Duncan Humbucker/P90 hybrid set... limited to 50... and Sweetwater has 2 on Demo Savings...👀
it remembers me more like older ibanezes or like a gibson 335s the old solidbody one from the 70s because the construction not a les paul its actually closer by a sg except of the maple neck
Play a Reverend Sensei, it’s like they took everything awesome about an LP or an SG, left all the negatives behind, and then added some fender comfort cuts just for good measure. That’s my Gibson killer right there.
Looks like a Revstar... I like your blue Dan better... Is the new one like the one Bob Weir played? I feel like he played a ton of different guitars tho. Nice pop/soul tone
I really like your videos and your take on different guitars and configurations! I really like single coils, humbuckers, and p-90s. Have you ever played through the (idk what they’re called) pickups that are a p-90/single coil combo in a Humbucker configuration? Part of me wants to buy a set and drop them in an HH guitar, but I don’t really know much about them.
Wow! You play some genres of music that never particularly engaged me, but when I hear you play you immediately have my attention. Just amazing! This is my first experience with one of your videos, and I really appreciate the way you discuss your aesthetic impressions of how a guitar strikes you, your emotional response, and how it actually feels. As much as I love rock, the other more melodic styles you demonstrate give a much more three dimensional image of the instruments tonal capabilities and sound. I definitely will be checking you out again. One of my all time favorites is the Yamaha SG2000. I would love to hear your impressions of the horned Les Paul killing Samurai. Lol. (It, like the guitar you review here, isn't really a Les Paul but it's own thing.) I have been curious for awhile now about this particular D'Angelico model. From your review I get the impression that the combination of classic HH features with beautiful yet somewhat atypical design and lovely tone of the Brighton Deluxe might indeed appeal to the same sort of person that appreciates the Yamaha SG. Thank you for this amazing review!
Hi Mike great video! My comment at this time off topic so please bear with me. I recently decided to learn guitar but I have one problem at this point. Due to playing sports my fingers were broken at one time or another. That in general is not a problem except that the pinky finger on my left hand sort of points inward making it difficult to reach the “4th” fret, for example, on a G major chord. If you know of any exercises or techniques that would help me I’d greatly appreciate your suggestions. I’ll keep watching. Take care.
I was thinking of looking for something similar by Ibanez for the price just because I don't really want a heavy body or a huge semi-hollow so much these days.
So I have added that exact guitar to my cart on Sweetwater but never pulled the trigger on it. I may yet get one. My background is classic/progressive rock for the first 6 years of my playing I was (still am if I’m being honest) a strat guy it’s what I first learned on, what I developed my style on and have just always had at least one. However a few years ago I started gigging with a heavier band and picked up a les Paul standard and I know a lot of people hate Gibson but I don’t, I love that guitar I don’t find myself playing it much these days because as I mentioned I am a strat guy. I have a D’Angelico acoustic that I love and it is my preferred acoustic for recording. I like what the guitar you demo’d does I like that tone and i can see myself having a lot of fun with it. As I am not currently working as a musician I really can’t justify buying another guitar but that guitar had already caught my eye and hearing it I could see myself joining or starting a project doing some fusion or back to some progressive with it. Guess I’ll add it to my cart again and deal with the inner turmoil.
Being a guitarrist was easier when I started, now there's so much options and even some mods are becoming more and more popular and what i thought it was gonna be new now is already being made with slanted guitar, perfect tuning frets. I feel poor having four guitars.
I’ve had a Deluxe Brighton since 2020, it’s so underrated. Love my Brighton.
That coil split tone at 6:00 is just BEAUTIFUL!
It doesn’t sound like it’s trying to be a strat and failing - just sounds goooood.
Nice video, thanks.
Slowdancing in a burning room is definately the new Stairway.
I'm 61 and HAD to learn it ...and play it all the time for kicks.

The main reason I follow your channel is because I love how you play. The D'Angelico is perfect for you.
I'm really enjoying your very real videos. You're becoming one of my favorite channels to visit these days. Keep it going
Demo'd this model on a whim a couple years back. Almost walked out of the store with it that day. I was so impressed. I still think about the "what if" if I had taken it home
Stoked that you’re reviewing this as I’m literally considering it against a LP right now, and in those exact colours!
Sounds great. I had the Brighton Premier for a while, but didn't gel with it. The pickups seemed really muddy, no matter the settings.
I have the brighton premiere and I love it. It is such a versatile guitar and quite frankly, one of the most beautiful guitars I've ever laid my eyes on. Love to upgrade to the deluxe one day but I love the sounds I get out of this thing.
Mike, the look on your face when you pop the latches on that guitar case! Hysterical.
This is my favorite guitar of yours, Ive never heard of that model before. I wish I had one too now lol! It sounds really good and it looks like this guitar inspires you.

Is was thinking of an ES 339 as my next guitar. My music instructor has a D'Angelico DC. It's really nice and I'm leaning towards that over the ES.
the sound for slow dancing in a burning room is top notch on that!
You want a les Paul killer? Aria Proii pe-r80 or a Yamaha SG-1000 thru 3000.
I love my d’angelico and you’re right is the Les paul evolved. Great guitar and video as well
That's some tasty playing, great tones and a gorgeous guitar! Enjoyed the vid!
I've got a Bedford from D'Angelico, SSH. Two tele neck pups RWRP and a mini bucker. Thing is a goddamn amazing, i love it

Hey Mike! Love your channel and the new guitar looks awesome, congrats! Just curious, what are your thoughts on Flying V's?
I'd be really curious to get your take on a superstrat. HSH. Something like an Ibanez Premium Az47p1qm or an RG550. That'd be rad.
I have one and live the playability and sound. But, the neck dive makes it uncomfortable to play standing.
it remembers me more like older ibanezes or like a gibson 335s the old solidbody one from the 70s because the construction not a les paul its actually closer by a sg except of the maple neck
Get your hands on a Rivolta Mike! I'd love to see your thoughts on 'em
Amazing guitar ! Thank you for another great vid Mike; love the channel !
Slow dancing in a burning room is my favorite John Mayer song! What things should I learn to pick this up as quick as I can?
Thanks for the great vid Mike! Like your style man... :)
Wow, nice guitar!! How do you like the neck? I love maple necks, unfinished. Your guitar sounds really good!!
Play a Reverend Sensei, it’s like they took everything awesome about an LP or an SG, left all the negatives behind, and then added some fender comfort cuts just for good measure. That’s my Gibson killer right there.
Beautiful video and good opinion, keep with the good work 👍
By the way could you do a video about the "d'angelico premier bedford SH" ?
Beautiful tone
Looks like a Revstar...
I like your blue Dan better... Is the new one like the one Bob Weir played? I feel like he played a ton of different guitars tho. Nice pop/soul tone
Comments came thru - the Weir model is the Bedford.

I really like your videos and your take on different guitars and configurations! I really like single coils, humbuckers, and p-90s. Part of me wants to buy a set and drop them in an HH guitar, but I don’t really know much about them.
I was enjoying the video until he started on the single coil sound, then it sounded awesome! Wasn’t expecting the split to sound that good 👍
I’ve always preferred the Bedford sh, especially for the neo soul vibe
have you tried a d'angelico ludlow? I just got one of the limited edition ones on Reverb. they are stellar!
Sounds nice, maybe dial back the reverb so we can hear the guitar a bit more. Nice playing.

Mike, at the 4:50 mark. I noticed that the neck pickup is lower on one side. Is this a thing now? Because I noticed that on another guitar.

The Brighton is more like an SG than a Les paul. With all the neckdive included.
great video. that guitar is amazing.
I have a D'Angelico Ludlow and I love it.
You're an excellent storyteller!
Beautiful guitar Mike!!!
Ive never played one, but i cant see me taking it over my prs mccarty 594. Not saying it cant happen, but the prs sets the bar really high for me.
Being a guitarrist was easier when I started, now there's so much options and even some mods are becoming more and more popular and what i thought it was gonna be new now is already being made with slanted guitar, perfect tuning frets. I feel poor having four guitars.
the thing you play on 6:00 is straight up the greatest thing youve ever thought of
Where's it made? USA or Japan? I always judge a guitar by where it's made.
