I think Joan Collins is a wonderful actress -- not just in drama but in comedy too. I was reading her first autobiography Past Imperfect where she explains without much bitterness or self-pity how 20th Century Fox had typecast her as a smouldering "bad girl" and despite paying her a salary that reached $5000 a week by 1960 (well over $1 million a year in today's money) they seemed reluctant to put her in anything with any lasting value or interest. I think Hollywood's been quite cruel to Joan -- after Dynasty no one would give her the lead in a new show, despite her being the Queen of TV. It's true she's done a lot of good work on TV -- but nearly all of it involved popping up in an ongoing show and then disappearing again. There's no two ways about it -- Joan deserves her own show!

She never really progressed beyond B movies and was rather notorious for being unable to play anything but herself on screen. She's a great star, but not a great actress by any description.
