Documentary about Chanel's life and legacy. @ 35:57 includes interview with Karl Lagerfeld about first appearance of Chanel suit. Please don't complain about missing sound clips - TH-cam automatically strips out copyrighted music/soundtracks - this also strips out narration. No one can do anything about that. If you can do better, please upload a better version. This documentary goes into detai...

Fifteen minute segment from the 1990's series, 'Very Jean Muir'. Apologies - at one point I had the entire original series, but now only have these 15 minutes. Sadly, this appears to be the only copy of 'Very Jean Muir' anywhere on the Internet. If I find the lost episodes, I'll upload them. It'd be great to see them if someone else has them.

Taken from "The South Bank Show" c. 1999. This is a very brief excerpt of the rarely heard "My Ship" sung by Joan. Excellent.

The amusing Joan Collins. One hour interview with Melvyn Bragg charting life's highs and lows. Great closing credits when Joan thinks they've finished filming.

Opening credits to 'Jo Brand Through the Cakehole' - funny opening titles: "Serve with custard, ice cream, and no friends ..." Very clever.

She was a traitor of humanity no doubt. The atrocities of WW2 cannot be so easily forgiven . Money ,power, and using sexuality is what allowed her to escape any punishment for her behaviors. It’s the same old story WHAT MONEY CAN BUY ! Yes she had very high talent as a fashion designer, but very low to have lovingness and a sense of right and wrong . She possessed no talent for humanity .🙁

It's awful how this documentary says as little good things about him as it can, it bashes everything from his habits and lifestyle and underestimates his own style and his origins, only the woman in red seems to have a positive focus. Mostly shallow and ill intentioned

BBC2 repeated the newer documentary 'Coco Chanel: Unbuttoned' and there's an additional theory that her adored nephew, Andre Palasse (who some speculate could actually have been her son!) was a prisoner of war. And that may be why she made those Nazi connections, in desperation, to save him (he managed to be set free). Of course, some also pooh-pooh the notion of Mme Chanel being a member of the French resistance and suggest this is newer misinformation to cleanse her bad reputation. I have no idea, but these two points are worth considering.

That documentary was really fabulous. It’s so old now but thank goodness we were able to actually see her grand niece Gabrielle Brunie speak. That is all primary source material which would not be available today. It gives real insight to hear her niece speak as she was there with her when she was very old and dying. Chanel could be mean and judgmental but I also suspect that there was another really wonderful, fun, funny and sociable side to her where if she liked you, she would be a fabulous friend. I like the way she spontaneously lunges forward at the journalist at the end and has a laugh with him grabbing his arms. She had a great deal of pent up transgenerational trauma that was a result of her abandonment in childhood, her convent years and all her struggles to survive as a woman at the turn of the century. Her story was truly one which many women went through at the time: trying to survive in a man’s world using their feminine wiles and battling all the way. I think it’s very difficult for people to forgive her for her affair with Schellenburg, and that would certainly form part of her anger towards the world in that interview - but at the same time - it doesn’t diminish the great body of her work and achievements. Many famous people and creatives have made huge mistakes like that, and paid dearly. I think Chanel also paid a huge price personally and mentally for her transgressions with the German high command and people need to also practice forgiveness. You can see in some of those interviews that she seemed almost drugged up or reacting like someone who took prescription drugs or painkillers or narcotics. She’s rather shaky, jerky and belligerent when she talks, which is a sign of a drug-taker. She was taking morphine when she was old to help her sleep but I imagine there may have been other drugs she took to assist her to just get by each day. These days they would be mood-altering drugs but who knows what she was on back in the 60s?

I absolutely adore her point of view and rigidity - it’s comical. Of course none of those comments about women’s weaknesses would fly in todays woke world but I’m afraid what she was saying was true. She spoke the truth with incredible force. What she said about mini-skirts was also true. To this day, they just make women look cheap. And the mini-skirts of the 60s were still long by today’s standards! What would she say if she saw all the Gen Z girls who look like whores and hookers now in skirts up the wazoo, where you can literally see yesterday’s breakfast! And with their boobs falling out everywhere! Necklines plunging improperly to the navel? What she said was true. That simply shows a woman’s weakness and NOT her strength. Women today simply often look cheap. There is no other way to put it. Oversexualised dressing - often created by gay men through S&M fashions and pornography - have come to rule catwalks and red carpets everywhere. Coco gave women dignity and integrity in the beautiful clothes she created. Society simply went downhill from the 1960s onwards as transgression and licentiousness. took over the way people behaved until now we have cheapness and vulgarity everywhere. Even major movie stars look cheap and tacky now. You simply cannot substitute true elegant style for what passes as fashion today. I don’t care who you think you are: feminist, model, prostitute, movie star. If you are wearing cheap clothes that expose your privacy then you’re not empowered at all, you’re just cheap. Sorry

Joan came in and saved the day for Dynasty. I've read several articles about Dynasty being cancelled by the end of Season 2, and I clearly remember watching her first episode "Enter Alexis". I knew right then that Dynasty was on its way up. Then in 1983 Joan received her Star on Hollywood Walk of Fame 🥂 Dynasty is currently streaming on Pluto TV 24/7 of all 9 seasons 🎉

I think that what elevates humans is not where they came from, although if people wish to work in fashion, it helps if they're born into money and prestige. The industry started out as an elitist circle, and unlike today where vloggers, and influencers sometimes get to secure a front row seat, fashions were traditionally shown only to the rich who could actually afford it and a ton of journalists to cover it. People like Chanel capitalized on their talent, and some, on their intellect, and generally, educated or well-bred people, regardless of their social standing often standout among those who aren't. Perceptions aren't something you can control, and I don't think it's anyone's responsibility explaining why you are who you are, and why you're so different from other people because those who know you would automatically understand, while those who don't will likely judge you. I didn't grow up in an orphanage like Chanel, but I had a very working class upbringing that focused on education, morals and core values in a country that no one truly cares that much about, the Philippines. Despite that, it never crossed my mind to be ashamed of both my Filipino and Chinese heritage.

I found the name of the producer once and contacted him to see if there was any record of the series and sadly he didn't think there were any remaining copies. So lovely to see this, even if 15 minutes.

There's nothing sad about Chanel. She created a brand that is legendary and one of the most expensive. There are many life lessons I take from her that I apply to my own life: 1) Persue your dream. 2) Reach for the stars. 3) Excellence. 4) Discipline. 5) Strong work ethic. 6) Be true to yourself. Incredible, wealthy woman who revolutionized women's fashion. ❤

Well, it was a sniper-style assassination with mighty precision and placing a dead bird next to him.. but the FBI "didn't FEEL the need" to investigate it any further, neither was the media interested in blowing up the case. That tells you everything you need to know.... How much did they pay them, one wonders, to stay hush. He was very anxious in his later years, his close friends didn't recognize him and the so called "murderer" was a random guy who was caught within a couple of hours, whose "other victims" were all of a sudden also found out of the blue right after Versace's murder. Well now, there must have been SOMETHING. This all happened 'accidently on purpose'. I highly doubt that you'd be so nervous about a few statues in your house. If he had gotten a fine, he could have given a few million as a tip. This goes much deeper but they don't want to reveal it, to maintain his DECENT image. He did look like a nice chap, putting so much thought, effort into his creations. This was his life... so there is too much money to lose on every front for everyone involved. Stevie Wonder can see it, it's that clear. Think of his "parties" with all the "goodies" yet he never used anything, never did anything, never participated.... it just makes no sense. Someone somewhere knows something. One hundred percent. Great documentary, thank you so much.. xx..

That's interesting that some people suggested that he was killed by the mafia. That could be a possibility. Cunanan would not killed Versace without having a conversation with him or tried to get money from him. Cunanan killed his other victims because he was trying to befriend them and get money from them. He was a drifter would make a living by using older men to get their money. He would not have killed Versace without trying to get his money first.
