You can enlist or buy medium sized western companies for a good price in this economy and bring in best practices, work etiquete, & tech transfer???? ........Instead of paying the Chinese companies (4X) the project cost. ...Their PREDATORY ECONOMICS will kill Kenyan Economy. When they EXHAUST the place they will leave like the locusts!! Stupid & CORRUPT politicians can't think this through...They're busy stealing.

This is an investment done by all SACCOS (banks included) to generate funds for running the SACCO and benefit the members as well. Bringing the brain back home or investing all have the desired effect of growing the economy.

Not throwing shade at this sacco or anything, but joining it would pretty much be like opening a diaspora bank account at the regular banks in Kenya. I can save money at a bank in kenya, and could also get a mortgage/construction/refinance loan from the Kenyan bank so I'm yet to see a benefit to banking my money at this sacco - same benefits either way. Except that this sacco is a somewhat new venture that i'd be trusting my heard earned dollars to ...and the risks that go along with that.

Now it has changed coz Kenyan banks have come up with a product called " diaspora account". They can invest for you, build for u and send u your statements abroad.
The diaspora accounts are also not easy to run from diaspora. I have one with equity and they keep deactivating my account if there are no transactions after 6 months. Deposits apparently donot count as transactions! I went home reactivated the account which took 2 days and on coming back 6 months later, it was deactivated again. I could not even get them to set me up for online banking. Are there other banks with an easier to run account while out of the country?

This is nice but would be worth something if they were invested in things that would fuel the economy i.e. private industrial manufacturing park for African-made products, where everyone who invests owns one product division. As you export the products, you earn monthly; as people send you raw goods to refine or manufacture you also earn monthly - it's a win win.
I send home 1.5 every month, most of those money are sent by somalis , I have other Kenyas friends they don’t send money to their families instead they enjoy alone after they get older they go home and buy land and build house there

I have lived in the US for most of my adult life and for many years I never thought I would go back permanently to Kenya for some of the reasons you mention. I am now 4 years from retirement and my opinion has changed drastically over the last 10 years or so. I agree with you that people need to get over the "sijui wazungu nini" craziness!! I have had the opportunity to live in Europe and Latin America too and I can tell you that there is no race or ethnic group that has a monopoly on stupidity, cruelty or corruption. These are human problems that manifest in different ways wherever you go around the world. People need to stop investing their emotions so much in the past and put their efforts more into the present opportunities and the future possibilities. This for Black people in particular no matter where they are on the globe! I would, however, encourage you not to be so quick to write off Kenya. There is a saying in my community which says, "No man cuts himself so badly as when he cuts his father". I have learned by living abroad, (and just in time too!) that there is really no place like home. There comes a time when one is abroad, when one deeply longs to reconnect with the place of one's birth. Even after generations. Notice how African Americans so deeply long to make some small connection with the "Motherland", even after generations of having lived here. I urge you not to give up so quickly what is your birthright. Kenya has her problems for sure, but she is my Mother and I will only ever have one mother! I have worked in healthcare here in the US for many years and have witnessed old people dying in nursing homes with few friends or family to hold their hands in their final hours. I resolved that for me there would be no more tragic end than to die in a nursing home so far away from the land of my birth. As you grow older, you will begin to feel that tug on your heartstrings that is your Mother calling you home! I hope so for you! The US does offer opportunities that are hard to come by in Kenya. Take those opportunities and begin to build yourself a system in Kenya where you can come to reconnect from time to time! Don't give up on Her yet!
Hope we can do that collectively in Germany. Maybe we will, up to now we don't have investments groups, we only have funerals groups to send our citizens back home in case of deaths, which is helpful too but I wish one day we will have a sacco.

There is a saying in my community which says, "No man cuts himself so badly as when he cuts his father". I have learned by living abroad, (and just in time too!) that there is really no place like home. There comes a time when one is abroad, when one deeply longs to reconnect with the place of one's birth. Even after generations. Notice how African Americans so deeply long to make some small connection with the "Motherland", even after generations of having lived here. I urge you not to give up so quickly what is your birthright. Kenya has her problems for sure, but she is my Mother and I will only ever have one mother! I have worked in healthcare here in the US for many years and have witnessed old people dying in nursing homes with few friends or family to hold their hands in their final hours. I resolved that for me there would be no more tragic end than to die in a nursing home so far away from the land of my birth. As you grow older, you will begin to feel that tug on your heartstrings that is your Mother calling you home! I hope so for you! The US does offer opportunities that are hard to come by in Kenya. Take those opportunities and begin to build yourself a system in Kenya where you can come to reconnect from time to time! Don't give up on Her yet!
Hope we can do that collectively in Germany. Maybe we will, up to now we don't have investments groups, we only have funerals groups to send our citizens back home in case of deaths, which is helpful too but I wish one day we will have a sacco.

Nigeria remittance is $25 billion yearly for the past 10 years. This is the reason why Nigerian Government doesn’t joke with its diaspora because of the huge economic contributions to the Country..
