I believe this is for someone: I was Paige until the age of 43. I am a man, so although most followers here are female, this is not always a male abusing female dynamic. It is not always a romantic relationship dynamic. It is Co-dependency, something I was introduced to when my ex-wife walked away from marriage counseling and I continued individually. I was introduced to a book/workbook called Codependent No More, by Melody Beattie. Something else I was introduced to from Ross Rosenberg was how the dynamics of codependency and narcissism play out and the Karpman Drama Triangle. Also the difference in covert and overt narcissism. Any good-hearted person would benefit from studying these things and doing some self reflection - as Iyanla says "Do your Work!" Melody Beattie explains how low self-esteem can be a root of codependency. But sometimes, trying to be a good Christian, Mother, Father, Husband, or friend can be the root. The Bible teaches "Love they neighbor as thyself" and many of us were groomed to understand that as "Love thy neighbor BETTER than thyself", ie "He's a great guy, will give you the shirt off his back." We learn about sacrifice, but do we really learn how to love OURSELVES? For many, not until it is out of necessity borne from a codependent past. In my case, I put EVERYONE before myself: kids, parents, siblings, wives, girlfriends. My counselor called it being "less than honest" which she explained as not asking for what YOU truly want and need. In some cases being a people pleaser, enabler, codependent may be a conscious choice. But I have come to believe that for many,it is a deeply self-conscious choice. So people like Paige, although on the surface she know red flags, she knows something is not right, but some events in her life led to her deep-rooted codependency. Mine I attribute mostly to many people in my life experiencing some type of sexual abuse: siblings, girlfriends, male childhood friends, although I was spared. I think I felt some type of survivor's remorse and wanted everyone to feel safe and happy. This led to (subconscious) choices that left me unsafe and unhappy in romantic, familial relationships and friendships by prioritizing their needs above mine. So unless and until Paige gets the proper help she needs, I believe she will continue to make these choices. But hopefully not for as long as I did. Please give her grace you would want shown to you.

His reaction was over the top and frankly immature. It’s only been 2 weeks, I’m still rooting for them. I think they’ll make it.

I’m wondering what Paige witnessed between her parents and other marriages in her family growing up. I was concerned when she said that she didn’t want to disappoint her husband regarding sex. She didn’t and doesn’t think about her needs, desires, nor protecting herself (physically and emotionally). It sounds like she has an unhealthy view of marriage. Neither her or Chris are ready for marriage and both need to work on themselves before having a healthy relationship with anyone.
