I really enjoy your videos. Your attitude and demeanor is very engaging, relaxed, and fun. No beer-snobbery and no BJCP bovine feces. Just fun, informative brewing for the most of us. Please keep rolling out the vids, you're doing great.
I am glad someone posted recently and saw a like from Peter. I am hoping all is going well with you. I really enjoyed your content. Looking forward to seeing more from you. Prost my friend 🍻
I'm on a new account but came back here to subscribe again. Miss new videos. One of my fav homebrew channels. Hope you're doing well. I'll keep rewatching the classics lol
Love your videos, very inspiring and accessible. You always make brewing seem less complicated. Brewed your Mosaic Pils. Was super easy drinking. Hopefully we will get to see more brewing from your soon. In the meantime happy brewing or drinking :)
Looking forward to your videos when the time is right. I personally fluctuate in my obsession with brewing and life is full of other things that take up time. All the best
FYI Cold IPAs should be fermented at ale temps, with a lager yeast. This is an IPL. The beers you mentioned, wayfinder and greencheeks even mention this in their website.
Peter, love your work mate. You seem like a heart on your sleeve kinda dude. I’ve watched and shared some of your other vids with my friends already. Keep up the great content 👍🍻🇦🇺
Hey man! I hope youre doing well. I used to watch your videos when I still brewed in a bag, no temp control fermentation, and just bottled. Now im on to kegging! Really hope you release videos again
Great video! Correct me if I’m wrong, but from what I have gathered on information on cold IPA, it’s either lager yeast fermented at a high temperature, or ale yeast at a low temperature. And yes, lots of rice! I have a cold IPA recipe I brewed last year and it was fantastic. 34/70 under pressure at 70° I wanted to hate it because of the name lol but it was one of the best beers I brewed all year.
used this grain bill to make a cold IPA with Lallemand Novalager this week. OG was spot on so mash was find but I think I needed to boil for longer for colour as it's incredibly pale. But my apartment smells ridiculous.
Awesome video as always! There’s a brewery here in Florida that made a hoppy Helles lager. It was so good! I’m down to see you brew a hoppy lager and maybe do a compare/contrast video with the cold IPA! Keep up the good work! PROST!
Awesome video, super informative. Looking forward to the comparisons video of the two beers, this is a "style" I could like and enjoy. I have thought of the dry-hopped pilsners...
Awesome video and great channel. I'm definitely going to try some of your recipes. You mentioned possibly using a starter (rehydration?). Fermentis calls their dry yeast E2U (easy to use) and if you look at their recommendations, they say there is no difference between pitching dry vs rehydrated. They also do not require aeration! I think Lallemand is following suit.
I'm watching your videos from Québec, Canada and really enjoying them so far. Do you plan to make a complete tutorial on how to brew/clean/sanitize? I'm really looking into starting to brew my own beer at home, but I'm a but confused about cleaning and sanitizing equipment. Keep up the good work man, you're doing really great!
@@ProstwithPeter Yeah, I just brewed my first all grain beer recently and it was pretty straightforward. But I think it's really interesting for us to see what is your "cleaning and sanitizing setup" during your brew day. How do you clean your chiller? Do you let starsan in your fermenter during the whole brewing session or do you sanitize it 15 minutes before the end of the boil? I think I and many other people could learn a lots of tips and tricks from you about this topic
this reminds me of one time i brewed a cream ale and threw it on the trub of a hazy i just brewed with kveik. turned out like you are describing. it was clean and crisp with a lot of hop notes. definitely interesting haha
Jack's Abby, a craft lager brewery here in Mass, has been brewing "Hoponius Union", their flagship "IPL" since 2011, but I don't think they go as far with the rice (if they use it at all). Definitely not an IPA and they definitely don't call it cold IPA, just a hoppy lager like you said :P If you ever get east you should def try them, that was the fourth batch of beer they ever brewed apparently and has been a flagship ever since, and I feel like maybe one of the earlier hoppy lagers in the US?
Great video and great looking beer! All names aside lagers and hops are two of my favorite things so why not brew it again without the rice? I’d watch that video!!
damn when you stumble across a guy on youtube who has the exact same brewing setup as you, you hit like and subscribe. 2 questions: Why don't you strain from wort, into ferementer? I'm going to experiment with this style with centennial and amarillo hops
What about using lutra at 65F? Tried it recently with a pale ale under pressure to let the malt and hops shine and I was impressed. Will brew again! As always, love the content!
I know! I’m actually at the home brew store right now. Life has been a little crazy. I know the algorithm isn’t gonna be kind to me for this hiatus, but I’m certainly not done!
I was attempting a Japanese lager a while back and while it was good, I used a lot of flaked rice and I know what you mean by that rice sweetness! I've seen recipes using cooked white rice in the mash and I'll definitely be trying that when it's a little warmer outside
An all malt version sounds good to compare. Maybe you should create the next new style of "Hot IPL" where it's just an ipa with ale yeast or kveik yeast... maybe with that lutra mentioned in another comment.
I might try this with the Kveik lager yeast. as my wife likes to use my 3rd fridge for food lately :). I still like the idea of using the flaked rice. maybe around 17%. I would think it might add some additional crispness and sudo sweetness that might be otherwise under emphasized?
What kind of efficiency do you find you get with your brewing style of full volume mashing in a bag? Love the simplicity I feel like I’ve been getting too involved in “upgrading” my brewing system. Might go back to basics and try the brew bag.. cheers!
I get about 75% efficiency most of the time, but I do shoot for more volume than ABV. It's not the highest ever but definitely worth the trade off for how easy this system is to brew on.
I believe you might be getting some of the alcohol sweetness being that it is 7.4% I remember listening the Beer and Brewing Podcast with Kevin Davey of Wayfinder mentions the alcohol sweetness to offset the bitterness. He explains the Cold IPA name as well.
I definitely need to listen to that! Very possibly alcohol sweetness, but I feel like I’ve had better balanced high ABV beers. oh well can only blame myself on that end.
Hey, I’m going to pick up a starter kit later today to brew for the first time. If you or any commenters can give me some advice on my first brew that’d be great. I was wanting to brew an Imperial IPA if that’s even possible for a newbie. If anyone has some recipes it’d be greatly appreciated!!
That sounds great! IIPA can be a challenging style to start with, but brew what you like! I started with some pale ales and an amber which were a bit easier in terms on balancing a recipe and hitting target colors and gravities, but that’s also my go to beer. Good luck!
I'm also a little bit skeptical of these new "trendy" things and this "cold" beer seems pretty unbalanced. IPLs are probably much better, imo. Thanks for your videos, they are awesome! Cheers!
I made a green tea ipa once using about the same amount of rice that you did and to be honest, I did not care for it at all. Nothing to do with the tea but the rice added a odd flavor that was not great.
@@ProstwithPeter It had a cloying sweetness that was out of place. I've made dozens of IPAs and none of them have been like that until I used rice. Love the vids!
I also disagree with the name, people need to stop this madness of naming things wrong, whats next? an american lager with ale yeast a call it warm lager? ffs
"CHILL VIBES" always sponsors my videos :)
What a great sponsorship deal! Prost!

Very interesting informative views brilliant cheers 👍🍻
Crispy and hoppy sounds delicious! But I appreciate your honest and on thoughts on where to improve. Great vid!
Thanks Trent! Yeah I think this one taught me a lot, gonna work on a crisp IPL type recipe.

Yep, W-34/70 is the best yeast for this, it's notorious for working cleanly even around 17-18 deg. c
Its not boring what you suggested at the end, been waiting for that response video/brew for 6 months now :( I need you back in my life

Nice Video. At which day did you dry hop and for how long? What Hops and quantity did you use? In the recipe it does not show
Fair. I might need to double check, but I dry hopped very late, maybe 16-18 days, and only for about 3 days.

How about New American Lager? Like the pre-prohibition stuff, i.e. lots of adjuncts, but higher ABV and full of fruity New World hops.
Sounds delicious but doesn’t seem really like a Cold IPA if fermented at lager temp and with no dry hoo.
