It always bothers me when someone says this. If you play the game the way it was meant to be played (on infamous, minimal driving) the whole game is basically one big stealth mission. Excellent gameplay.
Its a game directed by Clint Hocking, the mastermind behind Splinter Cell Chaos Theory; its stealth is there, just way harder and more in-depth then you'd think.
People actually say that? I've had my most fun in far cry 2 going full stealth on nearly all missions, even making sure that my kills are as clean as possible so that a guard next door won't find a dead body from outside. Awesome gameplay btw!

Whereas Far Cry 3 made it much simpler thanks to the detection indicator (and slower detection overall), along with completely silent crouched movement, infinite throwable rocks for distraction, more silent weapons, and an extensive takedown system, its much harder to tell when you are about to be detected in Far Cry 2, you actually have to slow down, even when crouched to be silent, enemies have relatively odd behaviors like being more perceptive at night versus the day, etc. i always tell people to remember its a game from Clint Hocking, the guy who directed Chaos Theory, so stealth definitely a workable strategy.
@@quinnmarchese6313 I always thought that the lack of indicator was a part of its charm. While I didn't personally experience enemies being more perceptive at night, one of the problems I have with FC2's stealth system is that enemies would zero in on you if they happen to find a body, for my gameplay at least. It's so annoying. Another annoying crap when exploring are the outposts and checkpoints that replenish with enemies everytime you leave for a minute after clearing it 😂.
Far Cry 2 has one of if not the best stealth systems in gaming. BECAUSE it's immersive and realistic. It's not made for artificial cleaning of the map, but as a tool in a combat situation. Almost every other aspect of the game sucks (apart from artstyle, parts of the visuals, animations, interactive map), with empty artificial locations (artificial in a way they are connected, the map has many cool places), stupid respawning checkpoints, faked factions etc. But the stealth and combat in general is really really good, the only actually great combat system in the franchise.
the single worst thing is the respawning checkpoints. i dont even mind them respawning at some point, but give it a few in-game days, sheesh. maybe in the meantime has some civilians like cleaning up the place and scavenging shit.

Although what every other Far Cry did, wasn't all that much better simply becasue it still felt very artificial (like all AI behaviour since Far Cry 3), and long term made the game very boring, becasue enemy AI couldn't even re-capture outposts. And to list of my complaints along the checkpoints in FC2 i would really emphasize actuall factions with whom you can have different relations (this shoot on sight was bs), and more naturally organized map that don't feel like it's filled with invisible walls not only on the edges, but between the places.

What? Who said that?? I played the whole game with silenced pistol and sniper rifle, I was a *ucking shadow! It was great seeing the AI pissing their pants when their comrades started dropping like flies.

@@lkassassin4704 I mean, that game was brutal, you really need to be hardcore to go full gun blazing on your enemies. Not that I never tried that approach with a rambo style machine gun, but yeah... Stealth is very possible and, often, encouraged by the game itself.
