I don't like to over analyze this but if Trixie put the chain on the door, she already knew Norton wouldn't be able to get in unless he snuck in through the window LOL. I suppose the semantic to be considered is the time of night/morning that Norton finally came home.
Jackie Gleason got big bucks for this series back then and he deserved every penny. He brought so much entertainment to so many people for so many years. Watching this since 1969 and I still marvel at how great it is.
Trixie: "On the bus, there are just two empty seats. And who sits in those two empty seats?" Alice: "Ralph"! Alice had some classic lines in this episode.
Audrey Meadows is tops, love her in these. But, this one, this is her brightest moment. When she mimics Rita Weidemier, I just howl! Calling Ralph 'killer', coz you 'slay me'. Lmao. 'And, I'm calling Bellvue coz you're nuts'! Classic stuff.
@@waynej2608 That part was an ad lib, Gleason didn't like that Audrey threw smoke at his face, although it wasn't intentional he reacted to her offense. But, notice that she went on with her lines even though she was startled by his reaction. A true professional she was.
As a native Brooklynite... I can confirm that all of us got our hands caught in those old window latches in those 1930s buildings. The Honeymooners remains to this date a glimpse into tenement living in Brooklyn, New York. Small apartments, fire-escapes, the back of buildings as your front view, climbing stairs up to your floor... not the most convenient. But... we loved it. Bang Zoom...
17:15 Norton doesn't go through his usual antics before lighting that match, he's fast! Usually he fiddles around for 30 seconds before Ralph finally screams "CAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMEEEEEEEEE OOOOOOOOONNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!"
It's one of my favorite shows the only thing I don't like about it is they didn't make enough of them. But then Jackie Gleason was a huge star back them and he probably didn't have time. He must have really loved Norton because he refused to do any show of Honeymooners if Norton was not in there. He produced and starred in the show.
Only show I laugh out loud at. I don't know how many times I've seen this, but every time she sais, "...buried treasure..." I bust up. For sure the greatest tv show ever.

If anyone is familiar with the 90's sitcom Martin, and an episode with the characters Mr. & Mrs. Bozak, you will notice that episode was inspired by this Honeymooners episode. Facts
Alice: isn't that a good idea tubby. Ralph to Alice: TUBBY RITA:That's a perfectly darling name Ralph to Rta: Do u think so Mrs wheatermyer Rita: yes I like it NortOn: the boys at the are gonna LOVE IT..
One thing I noticed about Alice in every episode she always made sure Ralph felt guilty at the end of every episode if he did something she didn't like and then she would sit in the chair waiting for his response
The painting just to Trixie's left at 11:28 is now hanging in my living room! I happened to notice this when I was watching this episode the other day. Too ironic. It is an original oil I purchased at an antique mall in Long Beach, CA. How did it make it this way from the east? The Honeymooners was filmed in New York. Does anyone know anything about the set decorator?
Alice. I'm thinking of giving You something And You may get it real soon Alice. He is a treasure He keeps this up he is going to be a buried treasure Great lines
Wow, this one got kinda heavy at the end. Alice is adorable and in the end Ralph always apologizes for his questionable behavior and tells her she's the greatest.
Look at Trixie hair the old flip or what ever it was, called back then. I remember when I was growing up the older girls were wearing their hair just like Trixie.
4 Alice had no modern amenities. Even had the old ice box of the kind that you put a block of ice in to keep it cool had no electricity. I have an antique ice tongue the kind that used to use to bring the block and put it in ice box.
Fun fact, I actually read an article just yesterday where it stated that Art Carney improvised that line. That whole scene where Burt spilled was unintentional, so Art improvised the line about the cat and Jackie followed up with his comment and Alice responded to Jackie which was also improvised. Apparently all 4 cast members were great ad-libbers, they practically had to be with the show being taped live.
I don't like to over analyze this but if Trixie put the chain on the door, she already knew Norton wouldn't be able to get in unless he snuck in through the window LOL. I suppose the semantic to be considered is the time of night/morning that Norton finally came home.

Hi there h is not u
Joyce Randolph passed away a few days ago at the age of 99. She was the last surviving cast member. RIP Trixie.
He keeps this up, he's gonna be a buried treasure.
Whenever I'm feeling down and out and in a funk I watch this show because it always cheers me up. They don't write or make shows like this anymore.
100% My feelings exactly !
Me too , thanks Jackie.
Me too, the honeymooners are one of the all time greats

Barry, This is my favorite television comedy in history.
Alice had the best comeback lines
She was beautiful and smart
Isn't that a good idea Tubby
I've been thinking of giving You something

I call You killer because You slay me
I have a crush on Alice
Alice was the perfect foil to Ralph’s bluster. She always had the last word, and no matter what, Ralph knew she was the greatest.
In real life Audrey Meadows was a beautiful redhead. For today I consider Christina Hendricks a really beautiful redhead! 😮😃
No one has ever come up with a show as funny as these! True classics!!
YES!! This is the best!!!
The greatest sitcom of all time!!!!!!!!! They never get old!
You're so right!
You've summed it up perfectly! Every episode is a "treasure", but I find this one particularly hilarious.
@@yusufu9 Zzz How do I watch the other ones that aren’t on u-tube?
This, and All in the family. Archie Bunker is a bomb
It’s been nearly 70 years. And I have a feeling this living room scene with Rita will still be making people laugh 100 years from now.

Comedy in 1 room. Absolute Genius, unparralled in TV history!
Exactly my thoughts.
Alice was just perfect acting as a no nonsense wife to crazy Ralph, she was so good.
“I call you killer cause you slay me.”
“And I’m calling Bellevue cause you’re NUTS!!!”
Perfect! 😂😂😂😂😂
Trixie: "On the bus, there are just two empty seats. And who sits in those two empty seats?"

Ralph takes Alice for granted
Alice is a FOX

The absolute best line was when Alice said "A treasure...if he keeps this up he's going to become a BURIED Treasure!"
Norton never fails to make me laugh!
“Leave it there, the cat’ll get it!” Total improv but perfect. Also, “I do like a short cookie, Burt!”
This is one of my favorite episode…. Especially when Alice hits Ralph with the nickname TUBBY !
Best sitcom ever and it was early television.
So funny. The perfect medicine in a troubled time....
I've always loved this show every since I was a little girl, great show thanks for the up load.
This for sure was one of the funniest episodes of the show
The funny thing here is that Audrey Meadows is a stunning looking woman. She dresses down to do this part, and is still smoking hot!
Jackie Gleason almost didn't hire her because her photos were too pretty.
Audrey Meadows was so beautiful & talented!
A great show, still watch It . Over 50 years and still makes me laugh
Alice is a scream! "Isn't that a good idea, tubby!" LMAO
His "bang! Zoom!" After was hilarious. He tried being discrete but xould barely contain himself.
