The difference between mountains and hills is in how they are formed. People may call mountains 'hills' and hills 'mountains', but there is a geologic difference between true mountains and true hills.

Virginia Beach sits atop a large impact crater, which would have been exciting back when the asteroid hit.

Actually ‘Cape Charles’ just to the north is the epicenter, near the tip of the ‘Eastern Shore’….

The western part of the state of Virginia is called --- wait for it --- western Virginia. Oddly, the northern part of the state of Virginia is called northern Virginia, the eastern part of Virginia is called eastern Virginia and the southern part of Virginia is called southern Virginia.
I hope this clarifies all necessary cardinal directions for you.

"I like rocks and dirt." Definitely the best catchphrase in existence.

Couldn’t the Trimble mound volcano be associated with the asteroid that struck the Chesapeake bay?

The respective Wikipedia articles seem to contradict this distinction. They mention elevation, volume, relief, steepness, spacing and continuity as possible, but not universally agreed on criteria. They, of course, also mention the geological formation, but don't draw a clear line between hills and mountains and mention that 'the United States Geological Survey concludes that these terms do not have technical definitions in the US'. If you're an expert, maybe chime in on the talk page?

Historically the defining line in the english lexicon between a hill and a mountain is 1km or 1000ft elevation. Anything below that line is a hill or above that line is a mountain. Geologically there is a difference in formation between a mountain & a plateau. Both of which when eroded to the point found in the eastern highlands of the USA may look similar to the naked eye. But the difference between a hill & a mountain in modern usage is somewhat interchangeable.

Thanks for sharing this. As a native of the Valley I am deeply interested in Mole Hill. I didn’t hear this discussed… is there a volcanic tube in Mole Hill that is accessible? If not, what could be learned by drilling deep into it, say 1k - 2k’ deep?

Very interesting. Geology is one of the best sciences, next to chemistry and astronomy. I think so at least.

If you start a campfire on it, sure.

24:48 I see a yellow dot over southeast Virginia, in what looks to be the Portsmouth or Norfolk area. There was an earthquake HERE?! Please, I want to know more about that too! The epicenter and everything!

I'm not finding any information about that earthquake. That is, I can't find anything that says that it actually happened. Searching the USGS database as far back as 1600 brings up nothing: earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/search/

You should watch "The Englishman who went up and hill but came down a mountain."
    Cute and informative.

I guess I was kind of stupid for thinking there would be something interesting in VA Beach, eh?

Oh really? That's interesting.... and makes my previous comment invalid.
