when i was a kid someone traded this game in exchange of a madden game, it was probably the best deal ever, i couldn't believe someone wanted to exchange this game, but the dude really loved madden, so no one lose i finished the game 3 or 4 times, never could finish it on the near end levels, always from start, took me near 3 or 4 hours, i recall my friends couldn't believe i killed the spaceship with the sodas, soo many things to discover on this beautiful beautiful game, thanks to the creators of this masterpiece
This was my first SNES game and I still have it!! I just beat it one time in my entire life, but It was really satisfying, the staff level was really creative!!!
This game was so ahead of its time and has aged well, because of the detail put into it, as well as high difficulty. 1st, the player could not pause and switch weapons..it had to be done on the fly and weapons/keys had to be managed well. Some monsters could only be hurt by certain weapons. Fire extinguisher for the blob, silverware for werewolves, martian gun for the giant ants, bazooka for snakeoids and giant toddlers. Even the tourists that you were trying to save would turn werewolf if you took too long and it got dark!! (There were speed shoes to combat this). There was even a potion that turned you into a beastman or a ghost child. As a beast you could bust through walls and doors... conserving keys and bazooka ammo. The ghost child potion let you run on water and had little purpose, until speedruns became a thing. 2nd, the password function was not at all useful because it would not retain weapons/keys. It MADE you get good. You even had to rely on RNG to unlock the first secret stage "Day of the Tentacle". This was a reference to another LucasArts title, Maniac Mansion. 3rd, the music. WOW. Spot on. All the necessary instruments from a low budget 60s horror film were there. Twangy electric guitar, church organ and theremin, it was as thematic as Castlevania. 4th, the hype. The TV commercial for this game was FUNNY!!! Some zombies wandered to a backyard BBQ and from their view..all of the partiers looked like food!! A weiner dog runs past and he looks like a hotdog with legs.🤣 5th, the humor. If you read the last page of the instruction manual, there were some suggested names for this game that didn't make the cut. One of them was "Don't build that mall here!" 🤣 Thanks for posting this video and many thanks to the developers for creating a classic!
Someone should show this Mike Ebert guy the Doom total conversion mod of this game. It's quite impressive seeing a 1-to-1 recreation of the game in first person. It works surprisingly well.
Just stumbled upon this video somehow and it's like a bit of comfort food seeing that the developers worked so hard and are still surprised so many people played it. I played it to death and still play it occasionally, same cartridge I played on over 25 years ago.
Played this with my step-brother when I was 6. Been a software developer for nearly 20 years now. In part from loving these games and asking mom how to make them.
Zombies ate My Neighbors is in fact arcade like in its level design and character movements. I always wondered the behind the scenes info on this game and who worked on it. I've played this game numerous times on Genesis and SNES since it was released and more and more in the past ten years and have never beat the game, now i can play the game on Switch with save states.
Thank you for posting the interview, i always wondered who were behind this game, it's cool that he acknowledge the split screen thing, i'd wish someone made a cool spiritual successor with split screen, and more features like more references to other horror characters, or even a multiplayer up to even 4 players! Split screen aside, it's an awesome and really beautiful looking game. It doesn't get old, it's like a faster Resident Evil (regarding the inventory management), and damn how i love games that makes me rationalize my inventory!
1:52 how did he have 900+ rockets?! Are there chests I don’t know about? Also it’s sad to hear they only really focused on 20 levels, imagine the more variety we could’ve had if they focused expanding ALL the levels or like 30-40 levels. Split screen also would’ve been sweet as the co op is kinda hard
games have timetables for development. Developing like you have infinite time just leads massive scaling back once either the hardware or publisher doesnt cooperate anymore. While its nice to imagine a ZAMN with new assets every level, most games dont get that.

This interview makes my heart happy for so many reasons.

@@XxsuperconsolebrosxX wasn't that game cancelled or something? I haven't seen anything come up from it in a long while
@@JohnDoe-wl6qe No
I'm in the discord and friends with the developers
They post on there and Twitter all the time
@@XxsuperconsolebrosxX that's cool to hear
I never was able to finish the entire game. Now that I have this game on Nintendo Switch. Now I feel like I can beat the entire game. Well someday.
I use to play this game so much as a kid and I just discovered it's in the switch and I'll be buying it
zombies ate my neighbors map maker would of been cool!
there is one available and they already made several fan remakes
Best snes game. Then I have DK country and then super Mario world
I guess if I had nearly 1000 rockets I'd run around wasting them to blow open walls next to open doors too 😂

He was probably just playing with God mode on to show off the capabilities of the game because his health bar never went down
