Still surprised that a mid-of-the-pack Chinese player like Gao Fangjie could return from an injury and played again. If it was their top calibre like Wang Yihan or Li Xuerui, that was understandable. But Gao was never the prodigy that stepped in to fill her senior shoes. She's just a gritty player, and apparently, a good one at that

At this point it is getting more and more difficult to imagine Ratchanok returning to her old form -- she is now losing regularly in the early rounds, often to lower ranked players -- I think she is probably still the #1 Thai WS player, but she has strong challengers there too

Fair play to Gao but it's so sad to see May lose again especially at her home tournament to the same opponent. There comes a time when an athlete has to recognise when their trajectory is on the way down. Some hold on for as long as they can and some know when to call it quits. For what it's worth, it was a pleasure to see them shine when they were at their brightest.

Ratchanok lost to her own game. She made a lot of simple mistakes. Trying to be so precise at every side and corner shots, but making mistake all the time. Sad, maybe she is getting too old for this.
