A crew from Sony Sound Labs did visit Railtown 1897 in 2003 to record sounds for the film however the 3 wasn't even in service at the time. The No. 28 was used and the whistle it wore during the visit was a NP 5 chime of some sort which was MOST DEFINITELY not used in the movie. It's almost impossible to say what sounds they recorded that day actually made it into the film. The recorded everything from torches being lit to squeaky door hinges.
It amazing how they still attempt to repair and do it good at the same time, it should have been scrapped by now if it wasn't for whoever bought this amazing train!

The lima 5 chime is not the polar express whistle in the movie you only hear 3 notes coming from the whistle it's real whistle counter part is a Baldwin brass roundtop 3 chime it gets its authortive sound from the steam hitting the brass causing it to vibrate

That's such a classic sound, and the first thing I think of when I think of Sierra number 3. The whistle in this video (the 5 chime) has a similar sort of sound, but doesn't have the magic.
@@KnapfordMaster98 the polar express's 3 chime doesnt exist it could be created if you get the right people like brass casters and people who can identify the 3 notes from the movie. The echo you hear in the movie is actually the sound of the brass body of the whistle vibrating at a rapid rated giving you the weird magic feeling in the body

The flatcar featured in the video (SRR 323) was not the one that was utilized in Back to the Future III. The flatcar that was used in the filming is SRR 325 which is still stored on site however it is currently inoperable.
Pulling in reverse allows for better visibility on the way down the grade so the train crew doesn’t have to look around a set of cars. They run around the train at Rock Siding and then can pull up the hill with complete visibility ahead of them.
What's the story on 3's current mechanical issues? Without naming names I've seen some social media that suggest the issues are far worse than What's being reported.
Unfortunately it’s been cancelled for this year. The turn-out in the past has been incredibly huge, and Railtown figures it’s for the best not to risk it this year.

Well this is the same Lima 5 chime cause it had a broken valve so its a good thing that up3368 fixed it
