• In this video, Nick shows you how to create a Flared Skirt pattern using the Slash & Spread method.
• Flat PATTERN MAKING depends on previously developed patterns as a base for creating DESIGN patterns.
• The chosen working pattern used here is the TWO-DART SKIRT BLOCK.
• We will SLASH & SPREAD our SKIRT BLOCK and REMOVE the WAIST DARTS. This will help us create a FLARED Skirt shape.
• In addition, we will BALANCE our patterns making sure everything matches creating the perfect Flared Skirt!

This super helpful! I actually watched this immediately when it came out and I used this as the base for one of my Edwardian style skirts and I added more sweep to the hem by flaring it out more around the knee line, kinda like for mermaid gowns, to give me more hem sweep.

Please consider showing how to drape a flared skirt, and compare the results with begining with a basic skirt sloper. What fabrics are best with a flared skirt? For example, see the skirt Ginger Rogers is wearing here: th-cam.com/video/06RlwN0nddQ/w-d-xo.html. Is this a flared skirt, and what fabric is it? Is there a separate lining underneath? Also, what are the advantages/disadvantages of using gores? Why go to all that trouble?
