  • Why do we meditate? How can we embody the qualities of meditation: serenity, balance, receptivity, awareness, warmth and creativity? Punyamala delves into the mudra of meditation embodied by the Buddha Amitabha: both hands gently resting in the lap with thumbs lightly touching. Still, yet present. The mudra draws us into to the deeper reaches of our consciousness: 'Like that quiet hour before sunset where the world is still and we can experience that sense of blessings and faith with the creative mind entering into its flow'. Poetry, images and stories inspire us to soar in the blue sky as Punyamala evokes the symbolism of the mudra of meditation.
This weekend retreat is part of a series of online weekends at Tiratanaloka exploring the symbolism of the mudras, or hand gestures, of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. Tiratanaloka is a Retreat Centre for those training for ordination. Some technical terms are used.
