The adverts some of them at least, they're meant to make you feel uncomfortable. The intention is to make you think about what you just saw - so that whatever message it is trying to communicate, sinks in. Pretty effective I personally think.

Yeah we British have a dark sense of humour and it’s reflected in our media and advertising. But then again, if an advert is memorable, it’s effective.

The UK has a watershed of 9:00pm for its eight major channels. Before that, shows and advertisements not deemed appropriate for children cannot be aired on them. The fact that so many parents complain about advertisements only shows that they are not monitoring what their children are watching. Too many parents expect television to be an unpaid babysitter these days.

There are a few UK PSA adverts that have stuck with me since I was a child.
I can't recall the 'name' of it but one in particular was when we start at a car crash scene.
Four dead guys inside a car, it looks like brains, guts etc. allover.
Then it rewinds and shows that all it would have been would be the pizza making the mess if they had worn seatbelts.
That was pretty horrific but I don't even start my car until everyone has their seatbelt on. Clearly it worked.

I came across your video purely by accident but I was amused by your honesty regarding how scared you were so I have subscribed.
Our House in Scotland is a few hundred years older than your country, although many changes have been made over the centuries, the Chapel is Queen Elizabeth1st, We have tours for visitors and many times over the years people have commented about the 'Lady' in fancy dress? It's common in large country houses for Tour Guides to dress up in period costume we don't do that, but many people, over the years have telephoned the house complaining that their photos taken of this 'Lady', has come out blank, My father just says that there must be something wrong with their camera's or phones, I personally have never seen her, but then again we do not use that part of the house, it is far too large to heat and there are too many treasures for my sister and brothers to damage running around when we were children, but, form all accounts, people have been seeing this very clear picture of a 'Lady' Dressed in very fine Elizabethan clothing, walking through parts of the house, for a couple of hundred years. Who she is? We have no idea, but with many hundreds of sightings from people from all over the world, I have never completely written her presence off. Good luck at Uni.

The irony of the co2 ad is that 11 years later, we have extreme flooding in Germany and Belgium with severe loss of life and properties washed away. We had heavy flooding in London just last week. We recently had extreme temperatures in the USA and Canada, and last year we had raging forest/wild fires in Australia and the USA.
Think maybe that ad should have been allowed to play, and maybe it should be worldwide.

Have to counter that line of thought because even then it was too late when that came out the issue has only got worse because inability by the world's governments to deal with the harsh realities of the fact the damage has been done already it also was deemed even with things now being what they are as a counterproductive way to warn people we need to unite to solve the issue not scare the crap out of people to the point they fear to do anything.

Poor Joel. You'll be glad to hear that the makers of the little girl ad, Phones 4U, went bust in 2014. You are such a scary-cat! I used to get terrified by some horror movies. I would recommend "Jaws" - scary to watch but you know he's not under the bed or in the wardrobe!
As for the ads, some of the hard-hitting infomercials are difficult to watch but that's because they are based in truth.

Be careful when you're next shopping for breakfast cereals, I hear they put monsters on the boxes over there!

The 'Act on CO2' advertisment isn't targeted at children, it's targeted at their parents.

@JPS - the girl in the parking garage ad isn't scary, it's called subverting a trope. It's intended to make you *_think_* it's going to be scary, only for it to actually be silly.
I'm more than twice your age, & the only ads that ever genuinely disturbed me were some government-funded safety ads - what you'd probably call a PSA. They were supposed to be disturbing so as to hopefully shock some common sense into some people, & to definitely stick in your mind, & they certainly did - at least for me.

These are some horribly violent ads. I am shocked. I no longer watch TV, and when I did, I only watched BBC. So I don't know anything about what ads are current today. But to me, any ad that uses graphic violence should be banned, and the people who produced them should be prosecuted.

To be honest, the funniest "banned commercials" come from the USA...seriously! Check out the "banned" Miller lite or Bud lite (I forget which) ones. I was pretty shocked by a couple of them as for the US they're VERY "close to the knuckle" as we say, lol. E.G. the one with the guy pumping up his "soccer ball" while watching TV, and my all time favourite...guy walks a girl home and asks for BJ! 🤣 (though I forget if that's for beer or mastercard.) They're hilarious though.
Mastercard I think, as I remember the end now "...having a dad with a sense of humor - priceless!".

Posting this comment here because the comments section of the most effective adverts video was turned off:
IDK if you were fighting the urge to cry because maybe you thought it was babyish or you thought it was unmanly (as most young boys & men tend to think) but it would've been okay to just start crying; those ads were effective for a reason - because they were made to be emotional. Anytime you react to something like that, don't think that we'll judge you if you cry, okay?
Marie Stopes is now known as MSI Reproductive Choices; its slogan is "Delivering reproductive choice to women and girls since 1976," so it's like a Planned Parenthood type place that "was founded to support women to pursue their own futures, on their terms, with access to high-quality, client-centred contraception and abortion care." And no, for anyone reading, they both don't just help women get abortions, but serve to educate them about the different choices that they have (like both those women were late, so they could've gone to MSI to learn about Plan B or any other types of emergency contraception). I've been a supporter of Planned Parenthood for a few years; they offer so much more than just abortions (just sick of people still spreading those rumors & lies).
I had to agree about the KFC one; kids are going to be obnoxious anyway, let them watch the damn ad! And yeah, I haven't eaten there in a while but I've been hearing that the quality has dipped from what it was. I guess it's a good thing a Taco Bell is being built near me because the only other choices around here Subway (not too bad), McDonald's (I rarely eat that stuff anymore), & KFC & given how much gas I have to use up to get there compared to the others (including the Taco Bell), I'm not paying however much for a bucket when gas is still so expensive; I can literally walk to the others!

I don’t know what you would make of the advert because it’s creepy. But there was an advert by the government about speeding in a car. It was part of a campaign called Think but the little girl gets hit by a car and her bones bent backwards. Honestly it’s horrible and that got banned in the UK. It was on about if you hit her at 30mph there is an 80% chance she will live but hit her at 80mph and there is less than a 30% chance she will live.
