Sometimes you need to feel for geniuses. Ilayaraja may or may not like Rahman's style of music and he has the right to like/dislike anything. Unfortunately, he cannot openly say that in public unlike us fans. He was invited to felicitate Rahman and, yes he spoke quite a bit about others but, he did praise Rahman's achievements. He may not have heard Rahman's compositions and so may not have been able to speak in detail about it. That's not wrong.

Nothing wrong in being unhappy. Because there are many songs which AR Rahman composed is 1000 times better than Slumdog billionaire songs. Let us take his composing of Bombay, Roja, Thiruda Thiruda, etc. Those are far better than Slumdog millionaire and those are exceptional. Even today people are enjoying those songs. After 10 years from Oscar when i am commenting this, no one is hearing Slumdog millionaire songs :) It is not in people hearts. Just because one song won oscar doesnt mean it is enjoyed by people. IR's speed, chord prgrsn, etc is unmatched by many. So is ARR's sound acumen and creative aesthetic. I'm a hardcore ARR fan myself. I like him bcoz I could relate 2 his music. Comparing IR & ARR is like cmprng Sachin Tendulkar & Diego Maradona. Both are legends. But each is tuned to a different frequency. Let us please enjoy everything :-)

In the Dubai show that ARR did many many years ago, Jave Jaffri raised this questions and ARR introduced his troupe to the crowd and the world... I believe he is the only MD to acknowledge all his musicians and give them proper credit... I dont think IR did it....

I like both of them and we must admit that Ilayaraja is a great musician and Rahman is a greater musician when we look at what both of them have achieved or accomplished. IR's speed, chord prgrsn, etc is unmatched by many. So is ARR's sound acumen and creative aesthetic.
I'm a hardcore ARR fan myself. I like him bcoz I could relate 2 his music.
Comparing IR & ARR is like cmprng Sachin Tendulkar & Diego Maradona. Both are legends. But each is tuned to a different frequency.
