UPSC works on logic, that's why the answer is C. and you already mentioned essential commodities needs to be purchased, even if the price is high. and if there is economic boom in some sectors and inc. domestic consumption, then we can see inc. imports (to work for inc. demand) and inc. exports because depreciated currency gives better returns on invested fund.

UPSC Official answer is correct about inflation question in CDS. Essential products are to be imported, it's right. But it doesn't mean that the quantity is increased i.e. imports. Only value/ price is increased. Most likely the import is reduced and alternatives are used during such situations.

Go by concept of economy rather than data of economic survey here... because its a conceptual question. Sometimes federal banks deliberately devalue currency to encourage exports and discourage imports. So option 2 is correct. Devaluation of currency increase money supply in domestic market which lead to inflation. So option 3 is also correct.
I could not understand that, how can export- import variations can be find out considering Just depreciation or appreciate of rupees...it depends upon multiple factors...UPSC should have use the word "can" to minimize ambiguity in the statements
