You forgot about "Firewine Barrel with Kobold"! I had one of them help me with the fight on the brain and he kept 3 tentacles busy and then tanked an entire magic missile volley. And all that after getting the great surface!
Hold on… are you implying that you can take the barrels, store them, and then use them later to pop the kobold out? This is hilarious, thank you. I’ll sacrifice a little xp to find something stupid to do with these.
A staple in every single one of my runs is grabbing every oil barrel and smoke powder barrel I can find, and to never use them because I might need them next time.
Mate, I prepared two bags full of them to face the absolute, left one with Laezel and one with Tav. Each had like 8 barrels + runepowder stuff I had gotten + satchels. I got in the portal, had Gale and Shart cast a few spells and Tav came in and hit it with 4 Divine Smite. Lae'zel didn't even steo in through the portal
The Barrelmancierge: a very formal Githyanki Monk/Thief Rogue/Sorcerer Butler specced into strength and mobility, with extra attack, extra bonus action, extra movement speed, and quickened/extended spell, whose only job is to kindly deliver barrels and other such consumables to the enemies around the field during combat (either by dropping or throwing as appropriate), of course giving polite greetings as he makes his rounds, and then generously activating the barrels with his sorcery fire/ice/electicity cantrips, compliments of the house...
Just to nerd out a little bit, it’s part of Forgotten Realms lore that Elminster has traveled to our world so he could have brought the name of Teddy Bear back with him.
Pro tip for deploying multiple explosives (including barrels) in clusters without immediately setting them off: Put them in backpacks, crates, or other destructible containers that can be thrown. If the container breaks after being thrown to your target, great! You can just use a Firebolt or something to set off the explosives. If the backpack or container doesn't break and you want to set it off in a single action then you need a Chromatic Orb: Fire, or maybe a Fire Arrow targeted at the container. The container should break and the Fire surface will ignite the payload
Agreed. This is the best way to guarantee kills on certain fights, esp in honor mode. Stuff a backpack with fireworks or grenades, throw backpack towards enemy, grenades spill everywhere and you can detonate. You can easily kill final boss in 1 turn with a backpack filled with fireworks and smokepowder grenades.
Ahhh memories, my first playthrough in the zhentarim hideout there was a guy near the back of the cave on the low ground far away and my party was melee specced. He kept coming around the corner, shooting and ducking again while i fought his friends so karlach threw an alchemist fire at the corner then laezel threw her firewine barrel at the surface blowing him up from around a corner where he barbequed. Even though it was basic i felt so cool, that's why i love this game
Haunted One is best background because of Durge. Oodles of Inspirations and also The Deathstalker Mantle. All others are ok. Guild Artisan gets good skills but relatively few Inspirations.
@@nathanfivecoate5848 Criminal gets relatively easy inspirations. So does soldier. Though criminal requires you to well, steal stuff. Which isnt great on for example an honor run, seeing as that can lead to unwanted combat.
@41:16 So, you can probably blame Eleminster. He canonically traveled to our world and had many conversations with Gary Gygax. So, he probably brought the Teddy Bear to Faerun.
Damn I've always been too scared to try using the runepowder barrels/bombs. But with the globe of invulnerability it'd be the perfect way to cheese the Raphael fight
My first time using it was with nere. My whole multiplayer party was wiped because we didnt know how large it was. Thankfully i was half orc and got my endurance so we didnt have to start over.
I have yet to resort to barrelmancy in my Honor Mode run attempts, but I'm six failed runs in, and this video is making is VERY tempting. I salute your hard work, Mr. Cephalopocalypse.
Small correction: for those of us who do like to spend hours hoarding these things just to blow up a room without having to fight it; you're right that it's tedious, but you're wrong that it's not fun. 😬
Strange. I vividly remember using the teddy bear like a grenade and it exploding after a bit on it's own. It would say stuff like "Hug me" and then go boom.
I found a couple Brine barrels above where Minsc finds Boo, up the ladder above where the confrontation takes place in the Gardener's Basement south of Lady Jannath's mansion.
I love your content! Always hypes me up for more runs. Another tier list idea: best legandary items (Gear), it would be super interesting to know which ones are worth going for in honor mode, cheers!
Brine Barrels are below Moonrise after first fight with Ketheric in the same room the "asset" is being trapped that Mizora tells you to get. Walk to the right of the brine pool.
Dumb question, but if the barbarian character throws the (acid) barrel on an enemy to break it, doesn't that action get spent to also damage? Sorry, really new to bg3
Brine barrels I found in act 2 under moonrise (if you follow the main story act 2 you'll know what I'm talking about) I don't want to give spoilers so I'm trying to be as specific as I can without giving anything away story wise
I only use the barrel cheese in specific battles. I use it in the goblin camp courtyard, dror ragzlin’s room, mystic carrion’s stupid spell rot tomb, and rune powder barrels to knock down the nether brain in health. I think I might use them in a few other situations but I can’t think of them right now.
I've actually only played 1 and not 2! I keep meaning to, but my partner and I want to coop it and making time is tough. I did play all of Larian's earlier games though, including the RTS they made which I think you can even find a terrible video of me doing in like 2012 on the channel (not actually recommended watching, I imagine videos that old do not hold up :P)
here is my suggestion for your next tier list: single class tier list. How good is a lev12 bard vs a lev12 fighter etc. you probably will account for intermediate levels as well in your judgement
The only fight that made me turn to barrelmancy is the "protect Halsin's portal while he purifies the shadow curse." The unfair amount of archers that spawn in and immediately start shooting the portal while you get swarmed is straight bullshit. The first time I tried the fight on tactician, I was one shotting multiple enemies every round and the row or archers killed the portal in two rounds of attacks. To be fair though, there are tons of barrels around Last Light where this fight takes place, so it's almost like the developers push you to use it for this encounter, because if you're doing this fight in the first place it means you saved Isobel and didn't do the massive fight that would have taken place around all the barrels after she gets kidnapped.
"The fact that this is called a Teddy Bear seems to imply that not only did Teddy Roosevelt exist [...]" The way I see it: the people of the Sword Coast do not speak English, they speak Common. Whatever name they have for Teddy Bear is just "translated" to English for our sake, much like when we watch Anakin Skywalker, Ash Ketchum, or Hercules speak "English" when they are actually speaking presumably Galactic Basic, Kantonian???, or Ancient Greek (in the movie Hercules). With that being said apparently Earth exists in-lore so who knows if Common and English are actually mutually intelligible (Yes I know it was a joke)
That brings up the classic Star Wars question though: how does Han Solo know what a falcon is? Is it translated from a Galactic Basic name for a bird of prey? Do they have birds on Corellia at all?
@@Cephalopocalypse I love niche in-universe questions like these! Falcon could be a stand-in for something even more generic like "aerial carnivore", but "falcon" sounds sharp in English and most in-universe linguistics are retroactively reconciled. I mean, until a character in-universe acknowledges the ship's reference to beaked birds, the ship "1,000-year flying creatures" could instead translate super vaguely: "Timeless Speedster" or something. For me, the "X" in X-wing was the source of my confusion since their primary language doesn't have a letter that really looks like an X. But it might not refer to a letter-maybe it directly translates to "Cross-Fin" or "Four-Feathers" instead of "[Aurek]-Wing" or something. The "Falcon" in Millenium Falcon by contrast didn't come across as strange to me at all since they probably have countless examples of near-avian dangerous predators to make that word necessary somewhere on a galactic scale. A planet with *no* animals could still actively use words that distinguish between butterflies and moths if those were common names for their spaceships. TL;DR: There are probably countless falcon-like niches somewhere in the galaxy and the language used is shared on a galactic scale Thanks for being cool and nerdy and thanks for the useful videos :3
The only time I really used barrelmancy was in the *SPOILERS*... . . Raphael fight. 8 smokepowder barrels are enough to break all 4 pillars (and a few cambions) in Honour mode and as long as you haven't stolen anything super important you can go in and out of the portal as much as you like if you need to take multiple trips to carry them. I feel like that was a plausible-enough thing to do, not sneaking around while time is frozen due to game mechanics and maybe Ralph is too mad to notice when he gets there and so doesn't do anything about it.
Karlach is the only one who I let use (carry & throw) barrels because she's our big strong goofball Barbarian and it feels right for her to be doing ridiculous stuff using her raw strength. Feels cheesy and dumb with anyone else though. Lae'Zel is physically strong too but using barrels instead of a sword seems out of character and cowardly for her. Maybe you could use telekinesis to throw barrels as a caster?
I always think about the guy who did a pacifist run that ended with left in the elder brain destroy itself via barrelmancy but it kept crashing the game.
You forgot about "Firewine Barrel with Kobold"! I had one of them help me with the fight on the brain and he kept 3 tentacles busy and then tanked an entire magic missile volley. And all that after getting the great surface!

You're right! Alright time to start over, everyone strap in for another hour-long barrel video
A staple in every single one of my runs is grabbing every oil barrel and smoke powder barrel I can find, and to never use them because I might need them next time.
Send them to camp and then every time I check my chest at camp I go “I really should use these for something” and then leave them in there rotting
Same. The rubble part in Grymforge when your character is like "I already have some explosives", that's when I remembered I had them lol

Tadpole powers tier list?

I always do it for the bugbear boss in act one. Hes way to strong for the early levels. But never needed for other bosses.

I used the game's largest explosive barrel ;)

I have to agree. I do love a good explosion and the subsequent chaos.
Been loving this series. +1 on Illithid Powers tier list!
Awesome that you listened to the comments asking for a barrel list! Love your vids
Runepowder for Raphael is arguably the most satisfying encounter in the game
Strange. I vividly remember using the teddy bear like a grenade and it exploding after a bit on it's own. It would say stuff like "Hug me" and then go boom.
there is 3-4 brine barrels in the mind flayer colony in act 2
There is 1(maybe 2 can't remember) brine barrel that I know of in the entire game, near the captured minthara in act 2 mindflayer colony
That makes sense! Given they don't show up in act 1 then they're probably not even worth the c tier rating
3,I think they are all in the basement if moonrise towers
a brine barrel can be found in the mindflayer colony at moonrise. and the tadpole barrel is missing.
That makes sense! Given they don't show up in act 1 then they're probably not even worth the c tier rating
Companions tier list up next 😌😂 Baezel s+ tier!!!
I found a couple Brine barrels above where Minsc finds Boo, up the ladder above where the confrontation takes place in the Gardener's Basement south of Lady Jannath's mansion.
Another way to set off the big boomies from a safe distance; use oil from a cup or barrel as a "gunpowder trail".
When you throw the 🧸 it has some lines then goes Boom! It's more like a grenade than a barrel. You only need the one action to throw it.
So glad you keep doing these. I hope you continue with all items! Thank you 🙏
If you haven't found out, there are 3 brine barrels in the Mind Flayer Colony at the end of act 2 - close to mizora
I love your content! Always hypes me up for more runs. Another tier list idea: best legandary items (Gear), it would be super interesting to know which ones are worth going for in honor mode, cheers!
Acid barrel can be huge when using a bunch of summons. Getting an extra 10% chance to hit on 7-8 summons is worth.
Brine Barrels are below Moonrise after first fight with Ketheric in the same room the "asset" is being trapped that Mizora tells you to get. Walk to the right of the brine pool.
The answer is to shove them together and throw them in a backpack like a medieval satchel charge.

The raphael fight is a potential candidate, blowing those 4 pillars turn 1 feels good !
The brine barrel as far as i know is only found at the very end of act 2. *spoilers* in the mindflayer colony
That makes sense! Given they don't show up in act 1 then they're probably not even worth the c tier rating
