I million percent agree Billy Porter made my soul shake the first time I heard him sing this ( about 15 min ago was my first time ever hearing this song)
One of the most powerful anthems to come from a musical in the past couple decades or so. I've always liked the original movie, but I love this musical!
With Billy & Stark’s amazing vocal & incorporating their acting skills in this scene, no wonder why Kinky Boots won best musical at The Tony Awards, plus Billy won for best actor in a musical as well. I like the way Lola bumped his arm on Charlie’s arm playfully. When Charlie started singing, his facial expressions matched the words he sang. Riveting!
Billy Porter is a real gift. His voice has that special something that just takes off with emotion.I feel pretty lucky to be alive at the same time as some of these performers.Because there will not be another when they are gone.
I fully empathize with the sentiments here, so grateful that I could always identify parts of me with my Dad, albeit not parts based on sexual identity or orientation. There is sooo much more to a man than identity or orientation and so much more to see between a man and his son. There are aspects of character or temperament like honesty, tenacity, lol - a tendency to sulk. And there are shared memories, or smaller things like a certain glance, a shared expression in speech, the idiosyncratic way both eat a cob of corn. Often it takes a son a very long time to see how much of his father there actually is in him, how much he has taken away from all those years, and time together. I know how very hurt I would be, if my sons ever sang this lyric. I am proud of them both, I want them to feel a connection that transcends the limits of this lyric.
This song when sung by someone who has lived the words takes on such a different feeling and emotion
