I agree, this is probably my favorite version of Risk. I LOVE going to the Moon! The Armageddon Card is always EPIC! My second is Risk: Star Wars - Original Trilogy Edition.
Thanks for covering Risk: 2210 for us. It definitely has more to offer than the original. Granted, my friends and I spent many hours playing the original and loved it - now, this was waaay back in the 1960s and 70s when the tokens weren't as cool, but they were better than Axis & Allies cardboard chits. It was something to do when we weren't blowing stuff up, launching homemade rockets (the two not exclusive), or filming our own claymation experiments. Yeah, board games have come a long way. OK, obnoxiously boring back story over.
@jamessullivan5168 That sounds like my childhood growing up in the 1960s and 70s. Mine included playing a lot of Acquire and Clue, riding our bicycles, building tree forts out of scrap wood, and everything you said especially blowing things up/lighting things on fire 🔥
@@samirjafri191 We made mobile forts out of the cardboard boxes people would throw out that their new refrigerators came in. Mobile because we would lay them lengthwise, then two or three or more of us woyld push against the same side getting it to roll. In that way it became our tank. It lasted a good time before it would disintegrate on the concrete sidewalks. Probably just left it wherever it died.
Thank you for viewing this, It's my favorite version of Risk as well If you can get your hands on a copy of Spheres of influence (it is difficult to find) my friends and I refer to as good Risk and fixes all of the issues that I have with Risk mechanics.
When did they start making different versions of Risk? I never knew they did this. But I’ve never felt Risk was too long, nor do the rich get richer. I’ve always wanted it to play longer and found things can change quickly.
I am old enough that there was only one Risk when growing up. It was probably the most popular Shabos game. And yeah, I have memories of a Winter Friday Night game taking 5 hours.
Never played this version of risk but it looks a lot better than regular risk. I have fond memories of playing risk a kid. Now I want to give this a try
We still play the original Risk with the Secret Missions and the following house rules: • Each player starts with a General (Add +1 to one attack die) • You may purchase more Generals for 5 Soldiers (3 Max on the board. Generals can't share a country) • Each player starts with a Stronghold (Adds +1 to a die for Attack and Defense). • You may purchase Strongholds for 3 Soldiers (2 Max on the board. Strongholds don't move, and only one in per country.) • We use the advanced variations found in the rulebook.
gawd, it has been a while since we played that one. it was a favorite for a very long time with us. risk legacy was a delight, but we went back to 2210 every time we had a RISK urge. My strategy of DOMINATE THE MOON, then hotdrop the earth with overwhelming force. It was hilarious.
You should check out risk europe its a great game. where you have to pick orders for you'r faction like taxing or expanding, building units. Each unit archer, knights, foot soldier and trebuched have another way of hitting for example trebuches hit at 3 on the dice
In terms of Risk, my fav is Risk Star Wars. Love the different parallel fronts to fight on (getting rid of Death star's shield, Luke vs Vader, and ofc the main centre dogfights). My top of the line fav dudes on the map though have to go to Northgard. Exploration, neutral factions (animals, mythical creatures), card driven, love all of it. Second to Northgard is Kemet. I should try Bloodrage, looks quite good!
I like this version well enough, but I'm spoiled by the fact that it's effectively a pared-down version of Star Wars: The Queen's Gambit (Nien Nunb's Gambit?) In that game, there are four battlefields. The palace has the main objective: the throne room with the viceroys. To one side droids and Gungans are fighting on an open field. To the other side, the Jedi are fighting Maul. In space, Anakin is flying towards the control ship, which is the timer for the game. Additionally, the droids - who have a huge advantage over the Gungans, can potentially generate more droids and move them to the palace to defend it more strongly. Likewise, the winner of the Jedi fight can move to the palace and start cutting through swaths of enemies. In Star Wars Risk a number of those elements still exist, but the cards are way dumbed down, the field battle got folded into the palace battle (Death Star), and the Luke/Vader fight doesn't really impact the game that much: you just get a few bonus actions. I appreciate their efforts to bring it back in some form, but that original design was so rich.
For me, Small World basically replaced Risk as my game of choice in this style for its speed and more interesting decisions while keeping the dice roll advantaging the attacker and needing to think about how to move around your armies to control your areas on the map. But I might still play the original Risk once in a while if enough people are feeling nostalgic to play it, but I do require the revised version that Rob Daviau redesigned with objectives and rewards. I might be willing to try 2210 at a game night if someone brings it and wants to play, but I'm definitely past buying it or suggesting the game myself. (I still have a copy of Risk Onyx that I got from Barnes & Noble for cheap on clearance, but it's always on the verge of being given away whenever I need to cull my collection--it's survived for this long almost exclusively on my memories of playing Risk when I was a kid.)
Have you played a Brief History of the World or History of the World which I always compared and preferred to Risk? This was probably surpassed by Axis and Allies and then The War Room.
@@BoardGameCo I figured. It doesn't seem to be a euro gamers game. I like dudes on a map games where you feel an ability to move and strategize without being bogged down by unrelated mechanics. Root was supposed to be the game I liked but that is more of a puzzle game with rules a plenty. The cats are more like what I thought it would be. I wonder if I would like zombicide. You seem to like that. Does that feel like a good dudes on a map game? Inis looks good, but it also appears to be a diluted dudes on a map game, being more about the cards.
@EfrainRiveraJunior well good news. I believe that Renegade Game Studios has reprinted it and it will become available real soon again. Also, I'm not sure where you live but where I live, I can find it pretty easily on the used market and for pretty cheap. That's how I acquired mine, and I can get more copies if I want to.
I agree; it is the best version of RISK. it is still not holding up to modern standards in my opinion and there are hundreds of games I rather play but each to their own I guess.

I love Risk 2210 AD. I hope they bring back some of the expansions even if you can only acquire it through Hasbro Pulse.
I have to get this back on the table. It's been years since I've played it but I fondly remember it's a good one
Risk: Europe looks good too, but I never got it to the table yet

As someone who owns risk and risk legacy, I’m sold despite never having played. #how to make friends to start a game night
This version vs Risk Legacy?
I bought it years ago at toys r us and loved all the commanders and special abilities. Who doesn't want to nuke the moon?

Spheres of Influence is my best Risk, but better, game. Lots of good memories of this version though

Nope

Best version of risk, always ended up holding the moon somehow.

Sadly not a fan at all :(

Exactly!!
Is this faint praise…like the best version of Monopoly?
@@phloog I don't think so. If you are a dude's on a map kind of player, this is actually a pretty darn good game.
I had to buy a copy through eBay. I haven't played it yet.
Lord of the rings: Trilogy edition is fantastic. A light version of “war of the ring”
For me:
1) Godstorm
2) Europe
3) 2210
4) Star Wars. 2 player Black Edition
I wanted to get Godstorm. It's now discontinued. 😢
