I haven't watched the season but I remember watching a scene randomly where he is saying "who is Damon without Elena?" So it is pretty much evident that every act and every omission and every feeling he goes through will be connected to Elena.

I see your point, but given their story I think it added another layer of emotional intimacy. Had it not been for Elena, they probably wouldn’t have met. Damon wouldn’t have tried to kill or sacrifice Bonnie. Elena’s love for Bonnie and all of her friends and family moved Damon and helped lead him to change. She was always a part of their story, but now, Damon has come to love Bonnie despite Elena.

I get that Elena is a big part of the show I mean she's the lead character, but every character can have their own story or scene or whatever without Elena being said or mentioned. This scene was so beautiful and magical, bamon could of happened, and I loved them as best friends in season 6, the hug Bonnie gave him when she came back from the prison World killed me. One of my favorite scenes ever. Their chemistry and love for each other is insane. I wouldn't of cared if they stayed best friends or become lovers. But after he said "the same way Elena did" it completely crushed the whole point of the scene. It didn't have to mean in love per say but just the way you would say you love your best friend. But the Elena bit killed it, and it makes me upset cause the writers ruined something that could of meant something.

Who's been there to bring her back everytime she almost died/nearly died. It was Damon. Damon Salvatore sacrificed for her over and over again. He chose to love her instead of resenting her existence because of Elena-less life. He chose Bonnie when he killed Kai and gave her his blood. He chose Bonnie when he saved her from dying this season. His friendship with Bonnie and his love for her brings out the human side of him. He has more growth than he ever did when he's with Elena. He was actually ready to die by her hand in this scene. In conclusion Bamon's frienship >> Delena. Sure Damon loves Elena. Nobody denies that. But the point here is not his love for Elena. It was the fact that he didn't have faith that his love for Bonnie could actually bring Bonnie back, hence the comparison that he made thinking that Elena can be her tether to humanity. In reality Damon's words actually did get through her, even before he mentioned Elena. So yes. It ruined the moment. This scene was never about his love for Elena. Also it is obvious they don't want to go there because most of Season 7 all Damon talked abut was his love for Elena. Six episodes ago, he wrote letters saying that he cant live without Elena, and. desiccated himself to wake up when Elena does. He was willing to never see Bonnie ever again. Even in this episode, they had him specifically mention that his love for Bonnie is like the love Elena has for her. They could have just left it at 'I love you,' but they had to make sure to emphasise what kind of love he is feeling. 'Damon's love for Bonnie is a Platonic one. They have a platonic relationship. Friendship love, romantic love, whatever, if it is real, it is suppose to be unconditional. I was rooting for Damon and Bonnie at one point,, but it became obvious to me that they didn't want to go there. Fortunately for me, I am now a shipper of Bonnie and Enzo, So, I enjoyed this Bamon scene, liked what Damon said to her, and didn't cringe like I normally do when he mentioned Elena. Bonnie has said that she loves Enzo twice now, and no reason given that she is not being truthful about her feelings for him. .
The writers always have Damon mention Elena when he expresses his feelings to Bonnie. Why? Because they want to drown the huge Bamon ship that has been growing since season 1. Just so they know, we're not going anywhere. It's clear as day that Bonnie and Damon have deeper than friendship feelings for each other. It makes no sense to keep Damon in love with Elena when Nina has left the show. If Kat and Ian leaves the show soon, maybe they could do a romance project together, since TVD is dead set on not making them happen, despite how vocal Kat/Ian have been about it.

I don't know how you saw romance, Damon never looked at Bonnie like he looked at Elena at the beginning, always looking at each other's mouth, or on the road, or when he went to watch her sleep. Damon's look at Bonnie was always that of a friend, a big brother to his little sister. I think Bonnie might be attracted to Damon, but not him to her. I rewatched it several times to make sure. you create things in your head about how you would like it to be and how it really is
the writers really flopped this one, it could of been a gripping moment if they just left it as an I love you. throwing Elena in there was such a cop out, shows that their not willing to take risks so what's the point of writing and keeping this show going if you don't have the balls to take it to another level. Not true because Damon killed Jeremy and Elena forgave him. Damon hurt her friends and Elena forgave him. Heck Damon killed LEXI and Stefan forgave him for that. Kat is not horny for Ian in any form. In fact she didn't like him when they first met, and they became good friends a few years later. It's Ian who is always talking about how Damon would be a better person with Bonnie. Kat only started changing her tune recently because she used to say she and Ian dont have chemistry but now she seems to like Bamon since the fans are showing her what they want. The show started with everything revolving around her because she was the human doppleganger....and the love of Damon's life. She was important to everybody, her name can't just banish within seconds. Especially in Damon scenes.

It's funny how people try that argument "not every relationship needs to be romantic" when its okay for Caroline to have dated damn near every guy on the show. Now I'm not saying Bonnie and Damon needs to date because I do love them as friends but the chemistry the two implode is too big to overlook. I see your point, but given their story I think it added another layer of emotional intimacy. Had it not been for Elena, they probably wouldn’t have met. Damon wouldn’t have tried to kill or sacrifice Bonnie. Elena’s love for Bonnie and all of her friends and family moved Damon and helped lead him to change. She was always a part of their story, but now, Damon has come to love Bonnie despite Elena.

I get that Elena is a big part of the show I mean she's the lead character, but every character can have their own story or scene or whatever without Elena being said or mentioned. This scene was so beautiful and magical, bamon could of happened, and I loved them as best friends in season 6, the hug Bonnie gave him when she came back from the prison World killed me. One of my favorite scenes ever. Their chemistry and love for each other is insane. I wouldn't of cared if they stayed best friends or become lovers. But after he said "the same way Elena did" it completely crushed the whole point of the scene. It didn't have to mean in love per say but just the way you would say you love your best friend. But the Elena bit killed it, and it makes me upset cause the writers ruined something that could of meant something.

He chose to love her instead of resenting her existence because of Elena-less life. He chose Bonnie when he killed Kai and gave her his blood. He chose Bonnie when he saved her from dying this season. His friendship with Bonnie and his love for her brings out the human side of him. He has more growth than he ever did when he's with Elena. He was actually ready to die by her hand in this scene.
In conclusion Bamon's frienship >> Delena. Sure Damon loves Elena. Nobody denies that. But the point here is not his love for Elena. It was the fact that he didn't have faith that his love for Bonnie could actually bring Bonnie back, hence the comparison that he made thinking that Elena can be her tether to humanity. Even in this episode, they had him specifically mention that his love for Bonnie is like the love Elena has for her. Friendship love, romantic love, whatever, if it is real, it is suppose to be unconditional. I was rooting for Damon and Bonnie at one point,, but it became obvious to me that they didn't want to go there. Fortunately for me, I am now a shipper of Bonnie and Enzo, So, I enjoyed this Bamon scene, liked what Damon said to her, and didn't cringe like I normally do when he mentioned Elena. The writers always have Damon mention Elena when he expresses his feelings to Bonnie. Why? Because they want to drown the huge Bamon ship that has been growing since season 1. Just so they know, we're not going anywhere. It's clear as day that Bonnie and Damon have deeper than friendship feelings for each other. It makes no sense to keep Damon in love with Elena when Nina has left the show. If Kat and Ian leaves the show soon, maybe they could do a romance project together, since TVD is dead set on not making them happen, despite how vocal Kat/Ian have been about it.

Right! This whole show makes me mad. Like I don’t really think there’s been a time where it makes me happy unless the people are getting saved. Like show turned into a whole damn mess by season 6-7 fr. We don’t get couples we want at all unless u like D&E or S&C, and we don’t get anything our way.
I don't know how you saw romance, Damon never looked at Bonnie like he looked at Elena at the beginning, always looking at each other's mouth, or on the road, or when he went to watch her sleep. Damon's look at Bonnie was always that of a friend, a big brother to his little sister. I think Bonnie might be attracted to Damon, but not him to her. I rewatched it several times to make sure. you create things in your head about how you would like it to be and how it really is
I think Damon always refers back to Elena because he doesn't want to show how he really feels

the writers really flopped this one, it could of been a gripping moment if they just left it as an I love you. throwing Elena in there was such a cop out, shows that their not willing to take risks so what's the point of writing and keeping this show going if you don't have the balls to take it to another level. The writers are really holding the story back and its boring.

The show started with everything revolving around her because she was the human doppleganger....and the love of Damon's life. She was important to everybody, her name can't just banish within seconds. Especially in Damon scenes.

Yea she was the main character but Nina is gone and if Plec was a smart writer she could manage to slowly chip away Elena's character and mentions of Elena but no she chose to make a whole season about Elena even tho Nina is done with the show. Don't know what shows you watch but I've seen plenty where lead characters die and the show moves on and so do characters.

It's funny how people try that argument "not every relationship needs to be romantic" when its okay for Caroline to have dated damn near every guy on the show. Not to mention, two of them were Elena's exes. She and Stefan aren't even watchable because it doesn't look not sound right. He honestly had more romantic chemistry with Valerie in their past clips than Caroline. That was a friendship that should've stayed just that a friendship.
Now I'm not saying Bonnie and Damon needs to date because I do love them as friends but the chemistry the two implode is too big to overlook. Delena, honestly could've been great but the writers imo didn't do a great job at it. How do you stay with a guy who has physically harmed your kin? It's destructive.
