I just visited Cal Poly SLO and learned that these, of course, are not like all the dorms on campus. There are other dorms that make up a majority of the housing which are miles less cool than these. If if get admitted I really hope I get these rooms lol.
I think the learning communities in the new dorms last year were college of math and science, mindful living, honors, substance free, and a few others.
Tbh I’m not really sure anymore since so much has changed with covid. Every dorm has its pros and cons so if there’s a community that seems fun I’d recommend picking that!
My Alma Mater. The dorms are nice! They still don’t have heater and air conditioning. I personally don’t like sharing a bathroom with men. I think they made the dorms co-Ed to avoid issues with LGBT students. It’s actually a really good thing because it prepares you for the real world at work. 16 years ago I worked with a transgender person.

Hey! You definitely have some say in where you live! You can request a double but you’re never guaranteed. As for social life, it’s so so fun! People at Cal Poly are super welcoming which I love! Also classes are generally on the smaller side which is super nice

Great video! Are the entrance doors to the dorm building wheelchair accessible? As in, are there "push to open" buttons inside and outside the main floor so that students with disabilities can enter and exit the building easily? Thank you!

I want to put mindful living as my first choice for living community but I want to avoid the 24 hour quiet thing, do you know if there is there a way to do that or is it all pretty random?

Thanks for watching! Cal poly doesn’t let you choose dorms by building. Instead you choose a learning community. If you want to be with your roommate just make sure you fill out the same order of preference of learning communities in your portal

The Yakitutu dorms are only a few years old and have so many nice amenities so they are usually the most “preferred”. I lived in north mountain and loved it even thought they didn’t have the newly updated rooms, kitchens, and study spaces. Idk if they still do this but chose learning communities based on interest so we didn’t have a chance to choose physical buildings
in the housing handbook it says you can't bring furniture, but in the video she had a night stand. Are they not strict on this, did she sneak it in, or do storage things like that not count as "personal furniture."

Hi! I’m actually not sure. Two years ago engineering was in Sierra Madre but this may have been different this year, I can’t remember. It just depends on how much students put the RLC as their choices. There is no way to increase your chance of being in the new dorms unless you choose the RLC that end up in there. If it helps, maybe reach out to housing directly and see if they’ll give you any info
My year was different but I believe this year students pick their dorm rooms on their assigned day. This information probably appears in your housing portal
Probably pick college of science and math or mindful living. These communities have potential to change but they have been in the new dorms the last 2 years so it could be a good shot

Yes these dorms all have buttons to open the doors on the front side of the buildings

I think she may have used nails but I wouldn’t recommend that hahah. I’d get creative w command strips
hahaha i used command strips and then put small nails in after just to reinforce them
