Maybe the reason Venti loved "his" portrait in the Irodori festival so much was because he loved seeing the representation of his friend, not that he was narcissistic as Paimon implied

But I don't really think we've met ghosts in Mondstadt

First half of this quest is really like "okay fun adventure time with Stanley of all people?"
Second half: "You want soul crushing depression witnessing Stanley's survivor's guilt and Venti's tragic past?"
I saw many content creators play this character quest, but none was able to enjoy it the way you did with all the lore knowledge you have and love for this game. I never loved watching any content creator like you Arnold.

venti is such a kind god, no matter how much fandom clowns on him this quest shows how much he genuinely cares about his people. he went out of his way to help hans when he really did not have to.
also i totally agree with you, i can't believe that venti has anything to do with khaenri'ah. if he did, it had to be against his will or something that happened by accident or idk. i just don't believe he would do anything malicious. i fully trust him.

venti's story quest even at act 1 is always the best. zhongli's and raiden's are also good, but i just prefer venti's in comparison. i just wish venti's acr 2 is going to rival or even better than the other 2 archons

Also, I love that you realized Hans' story just seconds before they revealed it. That was a great moment. Gosh, rewatching that Barbatos moment with releasing Stanley's soul was so sweet and I too started to get teary eyed
Only thing I'd say could have made that moment more OP would be if they let Venti switch to his Barbatos form or if a Vision had shown up for Stanley

Now that BOTH other Archons have gotten a story quest part 2, I'm reeeaaally hoping Venti will get the same treatment too... this quest never fails to make me teary eyed.
Also wait, excuse me, was Venti's friend framed in the silhouette of a chess-piece for a moment during that cinematic...? Whyyyy, Hoyoverse what did you mean by that...
We will definitely have a chapter 2 for Venti too, my guess is that Venti is such a "person of interest" in Genshin lore that Hoyo might be holding it back for some damn good reason 👀
The chess piece that the nameless bard was framed in was the queen piece, which also just so happens to be the same piece and Venti’s gnosis
Also, with how deep Venti is connected to so much of the lore, my best guess that we will not get a part 2 of his character quest for quite some time. Because when we do get a part 2 (if we even get a part 2), there will probably be a ton of info revealed about stuff like khaenri’ah and Istaroth; and a lot of that is probably end-of-story stuff.
After this long time, I actually forgot that Venti took the form of his friend. Thanks for uploading, it's experiencing it once again for me!

This character quest reminds me of something I'd LOVE to see in Genshin. What if there were an NPC that we got to know as an NPC in plain NPC garb for a long time, and then they get involved in a few world quests and get the development enough to actually become a character on the banner, and we're there on their journey of before and after getting a vision???
Zhiqiong in the Chasm reminds me of this. I legit would love to see Zhiqiong get more development, actually get a vision, be on the banner, and get a new character arc of "I wanted to prove how far someone could go without a vision... but now I have one."
I think "those true hero dont need recognition from god/Celestia" would be better
@@kenso888 Her character, as she is, is fine. I find Zhiqiong super interesting as she is, and she seems like a character who can get further development in the future as the plot for the Chasm develops further.
Giving her a vision seems counterintuitive to what Hoyoverse wants to do with her character. I was just using her as an example. There could be other NPCs that they give huge character arcs to in the future, before going away for a couple patches and coming back with a completely new look. That's all I was really trying to convey.
I really like that concept of turning a common NPC into "playable character, it would be a breath of fresh air I think. Hope they do something like that in the future. They could even go into lengths of showing some kid Npc character who somehow got messed with Timey-Wimey-Ishtaroth-Fuckery by some kind of accident and when they come back, they are the "grown up playable character" thus why "they look so different" now

Ah. This takes me back. I don't know if you realized this, but since venti took the form of his dead friend, isn't it kinda poetic? You know, venti sitting on the hands of his friend, like when he used to be a tiny wind spirit? I was like, 'haha, nice reference there'.
Also, calling it out now, either it's Archon Quest, or Venti act 2 is gonna be him coming clean with us around penultimate of the chapter.
Best story quest yet. I really really like the idea that mondstadt peopele can be so afraid of dying in a calm zone. Like, we all won't make a fuss about something like there is no wind in some place right? But mond people do, which stroke me instantly and made me realize that this is such a magnificent way to demonstrate their wind religion. Further, it leads me to picture what if I were mond people and what would I feel when bleeding out in a place thats completely still. This is such a solid background setting, convicing while also touching.
It matches Germans fear too

Barbatos IS Venti’s real name back when he was a wind spirit. Before he even ascended to Celestia. Somewhere along the way though, he picked up the mortal name “Venti”
I like to think that Barbatos was the name he was given when he was born or when he ascended, and Venti was the name gifted by the unnamed bard.
I think this because Barbatos isn’t really the first thing I think of when I name something. It’s long, and doesn’t quite sound like a normal name. Venti, on the other hand, while still being an unusual name, it rolls off the tongue much easier, sounds more casual and it comes with a meaning. It means “Winds”, so it only makes sense to call a wind spirit that
Of course I could be totally wrong. I don’t have any proof to back me up and I’m not a hardcore lore player so I’m bound to miss some things
Loved this quest so much! We finally got to see the archon venti's personality
Every time I see the statue and see how Venti loves sitting in the hands of his old friend, it never fails to break me down in tears. That statue is like the imaginary friend everyone has that no one else knows about
to this day still holds the spot for my favorite story quest. I just like how they showed his story through someone else, it makes you get the connection without really "telling". We only see the cutscene at the end, but seeing what Stanley went through in turn just makes us sympathize with Venti.

This quest is one of the reasons why venti is my favorite character. Another is all the lore that somehow connects to him that leaves me wanting to know more. I’ve even made a cosplay of him in his archon form with how much I like him. I was so nice to see those cutscenes again.

Glad to see another person that appreciates the npc’s. Moments like Smiley making it to the final round of the cooking tourney and the fatui pen pals meeting up during the lantern right cinematic makes the world feel more substantial.
very good quest, the scene at 46:13 is still the most emotionally impactful moments in the game to me, alongside the reveal of the dragonspine vault mural and the end of the clensing sakura quest.

So this was her, Edit: Amos was an inhabitant of Old Mondstadt 2,600 years ago and the lover of its ruler, Decarabian, the God of Storms.[1][2] However, she would later come to participate in the rebellion against him, during which she presumably lost her life.
I know that this video is pretty old, the stream is old and the viewers know much about the story now. But I just want to elaborate the decarabian's fall story a little further to those who don't know but are interested.

At that time in Mondstadt there were four prominent clans Lawrence(Eula's ancestors), Gunhildr(jean's ancestors), Ragnvindr(Diluc's ancestors) and Imunlaukr(We haven't seen anyone from this clan but an imunlaukr clan member's story is present in dragonspine area). At that time there was a fierce struggle between Decarabian and Andrius for the rule over mondstadt. And to save himself and his territory from Andrius, Decarabian raised a massive storm wall(which is still active to this day around the central tower of stormterror's lair). Lawrence and Gunhildr clans used to survive outside the city and Lawrence clan were regarded as pioneers of survival in those frigid times. When the Gunhildr clan began facing difficulties surviving the Blizzards, they prayed to the winds, and a small wisp of wind answered. Barbatos at that time was very weak, but due to the faith of Gunhildr clan, he amassed enough power to at least shield them from the blizzards. They took refuge within the city built by decarabian, but sadly they were disillusioned by the tyrannical rule of Decarabian. So a revolt happened, and the prominent clans like Ragnvindr, Gunhildr, Imunlaukr and Lawrence joined under the guidance of Barbatos, who grew stronger as more faith was placed in him. Which eventually led to the victory of rebels. Soon after, who was also at the end of his life due to constant fights with decarabian until now, decided to accept barbatos as the better candidate for anemo archon as Barbatos was a gentle wind of hope which held the power to blow away the mountains when ignited(which he literally did), while Andrius could only bring sheer cold and destruction. As such Andrius willingly let all his power flow into mondstadt, resulting in the green and lush grasslands and amazing weather that we see, and decided to stay there to train by sparring whoever was brave enough to face him. Till this day, Andrius is honored as the Highest ranking officials of Knights of favonius are titled Knight of Boreas, Lionfang Knight or The Dandelion knight.
Venti then blew away a mountain to clear out the view, and current mondstadt was established by the founding clans on the new area that was left after venti blew away the mountain(some of these mountain tops landed in the see somewhere far away, now becoming part of Golden Apple Archipelago).

If we think about it, those of Mondstadt indirectly built a statue of the nameless Bard who once led the revolution against Descarabian.
This quest change my view on the character's quest for this game forever. The early character quest in the game is quite vanilla and chill like the Jean's one. The come Venti's that show me how they plan about deepness of the lore. Not to mention that they put Stanley in the game to mislead us even before this quest.
I love coming to these old videos every now and then, nostalgia is one hell of a drug.
When I did this quest, and got to the part where Stanley revealed his secret, I was on the verge of tears. The emotion in Stanley's voice and tragic events he went through, it just broke my heart. AND THEN THERE'S VENTI. He seriously has a big heart and he really resonates with Stanley's situation.
Even now, watching you go through this quest, I still got teary eyed. This quest is just so so good, and Stanley is definitely the best NPC I have encountered so far. I really love how Hoyoverse intermingled Stanly and Venti together. It makes so much sense and gives us a clear picture in how similar they both are.

I haven't cried-laughed as hard this much in forever. The moment you realized the "usual place" wasn't Windrise was absolute gold! I def get how one could think it was though.
I also had a weird feeling/relationship with the quest when i wanted to know more about Venti but ended up getting more Stanly content. But as soon as *that* moment happened, it was like all of the puzzle pieces clicked together at once. I adore this quest for how emotional it made me in a matter of seconds.

rewatching this in 2022 with Genshin 3.2 update. Nirnama detector that allows you to see "imaginary" friends. Nirnama detector from Sumeru. Friends only exists in your head, like a fantasy, like a "dream", and that it needs "childlike" sense wonder to be used? Hoyo teased about Sumeru's dream concept this early? This is mindblowing to me.
damn... I forgot how good Venti's story quest was. Mare Jivari may have been a windless land who can't carry the spirits of the dead back to Mondstadt but Stanley carried and brought his friend's spirit back home so that Venti can finally set both of them free.. LET THE WIND LEAD INDEED.
funny little detail how Venti proposes to skip Timmie after seeing his imaginary friend comes from Khaenri'ah, since he is always trying to avoid talking anything related about them or what happened 500 years ago.
INB4 Timmie's Dad was from Khaenri'ah, and when he left Timmie and his family, the Ruin Guard (which is a weapon of Khaenri'ah) was what Timmie used to replace losing his father as someone who he looked up to.

WAIT I JUST REALISED. What if these Imaginary friends are actually leyline memories that some ppl say when their constellations r forming in their childhood. I mean yeah its a hot take but with the new info abt leylines and the fact that Sumeru researches into this stuff seems sus.

Rewatching this because it’s one of my favorite Story Quests and we still don’t have a second SQ for Venti.
Trust me, we’ll be getting Venti’s 2nd story quest after we’ve journeyed to all seven nations of Teyvat. Either before we go to Khaenri’ah or before we go to Celestia. I’m so confident that Venti’s 2nd story quest will not only have the biggest lore significance of all story quests, but will also take place during Ludi Harpastum, and will somehow include the reveal of Istaroth. And thematically, it would make sense for the story to come around full circle to where our story began in Mondstadt. BELIEVE!

I was hoping someone would try to talk to Venti after the quest finished (I'd managed to hold it together up until that point when I did it but when we couldn't even talk to Venti because he was mourning in silence I completely lost it and cried lol). I figured you would take the time to try to talk to Venti! Your Genshin reactions are always the best

I'm just here to see your reaction on Timmie's imaginary friend. I had the very same reaction when I did Venti's story quest. But I cried in the end too when I figured out why Venti drink so much...
What made me cry more at that time was that maybe Venti had planned to take the spirit from Stanley and asked Diluc to empty the Tavern so that not many people would know that Venti was Barbatos, on the other hand Venti also helped Jack to get the blessing of Jack's parents to become adventurers.
And for Khaenriah's problem, Archons have a long lifespan so I think an incident like destroying Khaeriah doesn't make Archons including Venti sad or have traits like bad people in general. Like if we lose a loved one at the age of 18 and of course 10 years later we can return to normal and feel happiness, especially Archons who have lived for thousands of years. They must have experienced countless happy or sad events so for the matter of killing and destroying a country and its people it doesn't seem to have much impact on Venti and Zhongli's daily life. Moreover, it was the people of Khaenriah who were against the gods at that time and intended to take the throne for the whole teyvat.

This is my no.1 favorite story quest ever, I just really loved this story quest and I really love Venti

It's crazy how now that we have 3 Archons' stories we can see the pattern of deep, painful loss in all of them and it just keep escalating. Makes me wonder what the hell the other Archons lost or had to give up along the way, especially the Tsaritsa. Loved the react, Arnold, and it's always great to go down the Genshin memory lane cause I played this one maybe at the end of 2020/start of 2021, it's been a while.
This quest always makes me tear up no matter how many times I watch especially the final scenes.

Crazy how much this device was low key foreshadowing the Dendro Archon, what with it being based on childlike wonder and letting you see imaginary i.e. dreamed things.

Ah yes, the quest that made me fall in love with this game. It's still my favourite after all this time. I think it's not only because of the great story but the way it makes you recontextualise Venti's character and how you perceive his actions and views towards the world. All the character quests are amazing and they help you learn new things about said character but I don't think we've had something since this that just made you do a 180 on how you view them

I was not aware of Stanley's line as npc when not in the quest. Knowing his story in advance when you talked to him in the start, it coincide with this quest. Him talking about his friend.
This was so nice to rewatch this quest again. I played all story quests from left to right when I started genshin and that was quest was so early, I forgot all about it. I love Venti! I know we just had the Irodori festival but I already miss him lol!
