- Acrylic Artist Debbie Arnold shows you Step by Step how to create texture using recycled plastic wrap and Joe's Prime Lightfast Acrylics (bit.ly/IrRwaS). Debbie applies acrylic paint mixed with acrylic matte medium to a Joe's Prime Extra Deep Canvas (bit.ly/ItJX2a). Debbie uses the Liquitex Free Style Large Palette Knives (bit.ly/IM1cyL) to move the paints around on the canvas. See just how easy it is to use this process to begin an intuitive painting.

I love everything I buy from cheap joes. the people are so talented, friendly and helpful. ordered 3 times this week already. never a bad deal. now debbie has me wanting to order a deep canvas. don't know what i'ddo without art.
Love all your demos Debbie! You've inspired me to take a lot of risks and not think too hard about my paintings being too perfect! I've done some amazing paintings using your techniques! Keep your tutorials coming! Thanks so much. :)
Excellent.. I am taking ART lessons & I really appreciate how she explains the technique step by step. I am going to try it today. Tks Debbie. Came by on your site by accident and congratulations. Love the dancers.. Like the comment about the left & right brain..
Actually I have used this technique on Custom Automobile and Motorcycle Paint Jobs back in the 1970's...
Shows you that a good thing never goes out of style
Blue color portion came out really more beautifully than the purple one
U provided a very good idea
Thank you
And I use my kitchen tools as well
This is a great informative video. Your website paintings are awesome.
This is fun to do and yes its art.. Art is what you make of it its what is inside of you that comes out in colors or sound there is no right or wrong ant the trolls that say its not have lil to no artistic ability in them
Why don't you "I can do better than she can" look at her website.
Don't pay attention to the comments, I think your work is absolutely gorgeous!
Thanks for showing us this technique, your work is so beautiful!!!!
Thanks for sharing! Love your color choices in these pieces of ART.
I love using my imagination. When I was little in my bedroom we had this wood handling wall that had all kinds of different stuff.
Thanks for the video. I really liked the one that was mixed with water. It turned out great!
Great Job for a beginner like me. Keep up the fantastic work !!!
very beautiful way of explanation and texture . thanks from india
I like the second, the one that has more blue in it. I could use this method some day. Thank for sharing this process with us :D
Very much enjoyed and appreciated the technique you used to create, what I would call, an abstract image. thank you so much.
Yay, so fun! Can't Wait to Try!!!
I just love your creativity~~it's epic!!! I noticed your large size paintings behind you. What do you think is a good size for a large painting? Warm greetings from Canada!
great vid. i was wondering why you blew air on it if you can just pres down as you did, just curious is all
Thank you, going to try this!
I love this technique and though I have done the plastic wrap technique I never thought to use more then two colors. Duh. Now I will. What does blowing on the plastic do that the brayer and books won't do?
I Like more the water effect, look so great!
Would have loved to see how it turned out...when it was completed.
I guess I used the wrong kind of plastic -- it was white and little bumpy, and it totally stuck to the paint on my paper. When I pulled it off, it took some of the paint and even some of the paper with it. :( Gonna try again with plastic wrap.
My dream.... Artist💞💞💞💞
Thanks very inspirational indeed
Very interesting. Really enjoyed.
Cool video, I'm going to try it
4:06 is when she really gets "painting" for those who got impatient, like myself.
I don't mind the details, but I think that could have been done in the description box.
This is really nice, I'll try the water technic! Thank you :)
I would need to see the initial stages to be able to use these ideas....love it tho'!!....Does the acrylic plus medium make the film in itself or have you used a film as a base???....I shall have to experiment!....Been out to get a plasticky cellophane material today and also an oven non-stick mat to see if either will work!!....Would be useful to share the resources fully...but thanks for the inspiration...Jane
I'm inspired.........NEWBIE here lol Gonna give your technique(s) a try tomorow :O)
Thanks for sharing!
nice video, where you say very strong texture on the first canvas and say you can create dramatic effects with water, can you tell a bit more about it, pl. how do you go about doing that ?
Nice look at the end, but I don't like the way she made the video.
Warning: Learn from my mistakes! :-) Cheap shower curtains did not work! Not even if they are shiny and smooth and properly stretched tight without wrinkles. Liquitex pouring medium will GLUE itself to the shower curtain and will NOT remove. It could be that shower curtains/liners I used have some kind of acrylic or latex-like component to them that makes the Liquitex bond to them.
Also, make SURE to mix the pouring medium with paint. Some types of liquid acrylic paint will pool to the top of the leveling gel in a flat mat finish with very little marbling effect (looks as if you painted on top of the dried pouring medium).I believe the paints Debbie uses are liquid paints specifically for pouring. Liquid acrylics designed for painting may not work well at all. The best results I obtained were from mixing pouring medium with paint dyes in small squeeze bottles. Wonderful flowing effects and color were obtained from these.
I will try to salvage the botched pours that glued to the shower curtains. Even though the pouring lines and marbling were minimal, leveling gel on top of them (for a flat glass like finish) glued to small canvases will hopefully make some interesting tiles.
Very nice thanks
please can you explain what medium is please
Is it just he same paint but thinner
"a little bit..a little bit...just a little bit."
why does she blow the plastic???
pause video at 14:35 and enjoy pure immaturity at its finest.
the thirst is real
What?
Lol I see it!
its sooo slow !
The canvas behind her is beautiful, but I don't believe it was done in the same technique! doesn't look at all like her samples. Too bad.
lowe thanks
Thanks, this helped me get to sleep
What the hell? The music is so loud I can barely hear what is being said.
Grandma shows how to do abstract art by numbers - film at 11.
the medium shes talking about is just stuff you add to your paint to make it more vibrant, spread better, last longer (doesnt dry out as fast because acrylic dries very fast) etc. Its like and opaque white liquid. It kinda looks like glue and kinda is. its called gesso. you want gesso that extends ur paint. not gesso to prime your canvas
06:26 "It's not chemistry"; actually it is.
Bless your heart - but BORING. So many videos on TH-cam showing how to paint abstract that are punchy and fast paced. I really must do one of these.
@benwitt1 weirdo
I went through all that...to see 17:04 result......with all due respect Debbie, this was WAAAAAAy too much irrelevant and monotone talk, without the big bang in the end to make it worthwhile.
Thanks for the video! I love the one you used with water as well.
So you took paint, smeared it on a canvas, wrapped it in plastic, and calling this art. Wow
Agreed....and PLEASE do not call this ART
