Manning was a real gent off stage and a great comedian on it. I was fortunate to meet him on both fronts so can testify to the type of bloke that he was. One of the best and made me proud to be a Mancunian. He got me pissed once when I was working and it cost me nowt..cheers Bernard..see you in the future..

IMO the greatest ever stand-up comic. Others impress in parts but Bernard's delivery is so confident and well-timed. Pretenders like 'Chubby' are raucous and offensive but it seems too contrived and consequently unfunny to me. PC is subjective. Recall Manning's appearances on Parkinson when host and audience were pissing themselves irrespective the non-PC jokes. I defy anyone to have sat at a live Manning performance and not laughed like a fuckin' drain - a superb and sadly castigated talent.
