I've never heard your voice, but holy sh*t. The mechanics behind these devices have always been something I've wanted to learn and damn, you can explain them so incredibly well.
Jeremy I absolutely love your videos. I'm kind of a newbie to synth and music making but been interested for a long time and just never got going. Your videos show what these little machines can do without making me feel stupid or put off in any way (some videos are just so beyond me I get discouraged) I have 3 pocket operators as of now and love them. Your videos have helped get my confidence back about making music. Starting small and building! THANK YOU!
Holy shit dude, you weren't lying!! All the videos about this PO I've seen have made it feel kind of limited and boring but what you make with it is just amazing. Great video, as always!
Ugh... tell me about it. This one by Lightbath is kinda cool. Just reverb the shit out of anything and it'll sound pretty nice I guess. th-cam.com/video/19XB1bX9ars/w-d-xo.html
This is certainly my all-time favourite pocket operator and I consider getting it as my first hardware generator. I really enjoy working with recorded samples and having this guy with me at all times would be awesome.
My wife just bought me one of these so I can create music on the train to college. Other people don't even realize you're making dope beats. It's great. The only problem you'll have with this product is getting too into the music you're creating which may lead others to believe you're legit crazy dancing to a phone from the 90's and making weird sounds into it. Thanks for the tutorial! This super helped
ok Jeremy, you did it: you made me buy my first pocket operator! its arriving tomorrow and i will speak ERRM jam the hell out of it !! wish me luck :-)
yesss ... Jeremy, you were right: I LOVE IT! :-) Check out the Video i've just uploaded - if you want ;-) This thing is great fun! For sure! Cant wait to partner it with one of my bigger boxes. Thanks for convincing me! :-)
Yo… im making a vid on this unit for my channel but cannot make it work like that! What a master! I keep coming back to this vid to see if I can remember those tricks but end up making a boring pattern and getting confused when trying to jam 😝
I completely slept on these POs. After getting excited about the OP-1 after stumbling upon a video non TH-cam and becoming obsessed-only to order one, get it and realize it didn’t fit my style of music making. But these devices, I can work with.
Well done 👍 👍 👍 👍 Your review is simply the BEST OF ALL I HAVE SEEN.... Easy to understand and practical and besides straight forward. Thank you very much!!!!!. Many regards from Chris Bunch of flowers music
i'm selling all of my P.O.s except those two, and maybe tonic because the drums are so good. i've legit never felt so inspired by such a weird little thing before. i love sampling to death, and both of them offer an amazing take on it.
Red Means Recording I would love to buy them... Actually I asked you on discord which ones you'd recommend, dunno if you recognized me. I was UnWeonMas. I said they were like twice the price in Chile.
“Tencho” is not a misspelling of “techno.” Tencho is a subgenre of techno which features high tempo (140 BPM), synthesized drums, and samples/sounds derived from the human voice.
I got one of these and I enjoy it. It could do with better polyphony though, just one drum sound and one sample can sound simultaneously at any one time. I have a question though. Is the Speak somehow optimized to sample voices? I try sampling a piano chord and some guitar notes but that turns out like crap every time. Why?!?
I've just noticed that some of my other gear has got one of these "play" buttons. It must be there for reason right? They wouldn't just put a "mystery button" on all these instruments, would they? And who are "they" anyway. And why is the play button on some of these things a triangle? And a triangle has 3 sides. Omg. I've just realised who "they" are. This is big. Illuminati co-
I know this is an old ass video at this point, but Im just wondering about the scale mode before i get my hands on this one to add to my collection. Is button number 5 still the 'root note' for scales like it is on the -33? Also, since all the sounds are recorded in, does the synth engine automatically try to pitch your sample to match the root note or scale? Or is it there so you can kind of match your scale to the sample you recorded in? Either way, this looks like a cool way to kinda of upgrade from the sub. the sub is sick, but it seems like the increase in pattern chain length and ease of control on the speak kinda blow it out of the water... so sampling the sub onto the speak might be the real power play 😈
what about the velocity with this thing? can you change the loudness of the push? even afterwards? is it posssible to control the loudness of every drum-sound??
Jer that button means recording I think. How are you finding the metal set? I actually tend to leave my Speak out when I am doodling because I find the lack of volume control on each noise drowns out everything else in the chain. On it's own, such a joy.
i haven't used it with anything else. i think the 33 and 35 are my absolute favorites of everything. have you tried moving the 35 in the chain to somewhere else?
Yep. Best I've found is to have it first in the chain so that I can keep it's output low without effecting anything else. However as far as I can tell the OP1 needs to sit first in the chain, so if I am trying to chain up everything it becomes an issue. Really, imperfect mixing is fine for blippy PO jams. I would just run it alone through a mixer if I wanted to get it on an actual track. Which honestly I will because riffing on this thing is incredible.
I love this mix of great functionality and a totaly weird ass synthesis engine. TE really learned from the earlier POs. I guess they could have done a rehashed Factory/Arcade/Robot/whatever with the selectable scales, microtonic kit, metronome and the other new functional goodies but I'm glad they managed to go for something more creative. The pattern effects sound also really good.
On that last Jam that you did when you made a beat, it seemed like it was more than 16 steps I thought that the PO could only do 16 steps at a time before you chained 2 patterns together but it seems like you're recording 32 steps? how do you do that¿? if you can tell me I appreciate it🙏👍 thank you!✌
How do you go about setting up cameras for jam videos like this? I suspect I need a boom arm head for my tripod to get the camera directly above the jam in a way thats not intrusive.
Red Means Recording How well does this sound when you sample a melodic sound say like a short vinyl phrase sample loop? If it handles those well with making synthy lo-fi versions of the melodic sample, that would actually be pretty cool. You could make some cool layered resamples of the original phrase sample, or solo and crossfade sections of the same sample with this and a standard sampler if it handles like Im hoping it can.
Thx again sir , very informative I think I'm going get this although I wish i had waited before I copped the p.o 32...i wonder though can this be used as a live vocal fx for singing or Rapp whatever?
Thanks, you could sort of see/hear that in your videos. On balance I will probably go for the KO. but I'm amazed at how they've done it with the Speak and may change my mind!
The PO metal series always has some little nubs left behind after breaking off the hanger. I found that a nail file worked great for getting rid of them, they bugged the hell out of me.
When you hit « play », your mother yells at you to « go play outside for Pete’s sake! ». I felt this should be have been documented somewhere in the EULA.
RED MEANS can you explain the line in n outs.. how many? what kind? is there a AC adaptor? thank you SOOO much. from a 60+ drummer this will be a reeeeeal challenge. so i can just play it thru my little 10amp?
Hi dude, i like the way that you shot your video. I'm really curious about what kind of stuffs you used. Camera, tripod, lens, light setting etc... ? The fact is, i want to realise some couple of videos with this kind of perspective. View from the top/zenith view however you they call it. I want to put camera on the top of the table where i'll do my shit. So, if you have some reco and advice, i'll really apreciate. Thx
i think you can get The Off button by pressing sound and pattern at the same time while not playing or on live mode. i tries in my PO-33 and PO-32 and both replace the clock with a blinking Off..
How do you delete just one sound from your pattern, so you don't have to delete the whole pattern? Is it possible? I don't want to delete the sound completely just remove it from a current pattern

when you record your next jam and upload it, could you throw in some anime samples? I curious to hear what this bad boy can do..... I've been looking at these Pocket operators for awhile now and almost ready to pull the trigger on them....
when's the next OP-1 video also blockchain
i hate everything about this comment, thanks.
Introducing OP-1-chain, centralizing all decentralized OP-1 videos
Yeah, looks like the OP-1s are getting back in stock places. I need to know if I should buy one now or just wait for the OP-Z.
So I have a channel and I would highly suggest you check it out if you guys are into absolute content.
It's HERE! :D

TE is killing it with the new units, but you really know how to make them sing!
This is certainly my all-time favourite pocket operator and I consider getting it as my first hardware generator. I really enjoy working with recorded samples and having this guy with me at all times would be awesome.
Dang, you always produce something rad no matter the instrument. Teenage Engineering really knows how to make something fun.
My wife just bought me one of these so I can create music on the train to college. Other people don't even realize you're making dope beats. It's great. Thanks for the tutorial! This super helped
Probably the best PO tutorial I’ve ever seen.
Ah, tencho, my favorite EMD subgenre
I hope they will include dum & ass next.
“Tencho” da fuq is that? Dolt.
@@MrJackal43 watch. listen. understand.
Its a misspelling of techno on the display. I think its really cute
TE is already getting so wild with these, and I love it; I can't wait to see what they do next.
PO-42: Shoob
Yes please give it to me.
wow... i really didn’t see the potential in this PO until i saw this! just got the K.O. and now i need this..... thanks a lot :)
ok Jeremy, you did it: you made me buy my first pocket operator! its arriving tomorrow and i will speak ERRM jam the hell out of it !! wish me luck :-)
you will love it, i promise
yesss ... Jeremy, you were right: I LOVE IT! :-) Check out the Video i've just uploaded - if you want ;-) This thing is great fun! For sure! Cant wait to partner it with one of my bigger boxes. Thanks for convincing me! :-)
The PO 30’s are amazing. Great values
i walked in for some quality music and the blessings were even over the new, interesting, and inspiring device... thanks jeremy!
this so cool! I totally think those teenager engineers were on their a-game.
You just make it look so easy! I love what you did with the 35. I'm still a bit more hooked on the 33, it's like a tiny OP-1!
Thank you for these videos Jeremy! Far and away the best PO tutorials I have seen, and I appreciate your effort for us!
I feel inspired to play some miminal tencho.
Yo… im making a vid on this unit for my channel but cannot make it work like that! What a master! I keep coming back to this vid to see if I can remember those tricks but end up making a boring pattern and getting confused when trying to jam 😝
Just got mine!!!
Watching to try and understand this beast ;D
This, is what I am getting next! Your video's are very informative.
Tencho is form Detriot
hahaha
Elector too
its from Dertiot
Well said!
I prefer acdi hosue.
pretty sick jams the last few minutes man
I completely slept on these POs. After getting excited about the OP-1 after stumbling upon a video non TH-cam and becoming obsessed-only to order one, get it and realize it didn’t fit my style of music making. But these devices, I can work with.
thanks for the overview! (was so exciting to read tony's origin story inside the cute as hell packaging)
Well done 👍 👍 👍 👍 Your review is simply the BEST OF ALL I HAVE SEEN.... Easy to understand and practical and besides straight forward. Thank you very much!!!!!.

The 33 and 35 are so ridiculously cool.
i'm selling all of my P.O.s except those two, and maybe tonic because the drums are so good. i've legit never felt so inspired by such a weird little thing before. i love sampling to death, and both of them offer an amazing take on it.
Red Means Recording wait, are you really selling them? Why?
Because I don't use them and I have a 2000 dollar camera body on pre-order.
The PO-33 and PO-35 are going to be in heavy rotation, though.
Red Means Recording I would love to buy them... Actually I asked you on discord which ones you'd recommend, dunno if you recognized me. I was UnWeonMas. I said they were like twice the price in Chile.
I'm afraid they are all claimed :(
Man, the PO-32 Tonic bank is sickkkkkkk
Since I've been subbed to this channel, I've been inclined to make cool things. That's awesome!
🖖👽
Edit: The jam at the end... 👽👍
Great creative content, I ordered item before video ended. Thanks
Also received that Volca sample unit, having fun trying to learn the workflow..
Wow! Im excited to get started!
I'm still having fun seeing all the different things my PO-35 can sample, it's really creative. Never thought of using the sync as a metronome
haha, i got yelled at so much for my first videos because i said "there's no metronome". so now i'm making sure people know there is.
Excellent duuuuuuude! Great vid, great track, great great great
Muy bien niño ! you made my day, now I wash the dishes ...
The robots are back... cool synth they made... and cool demo!

no it's not

Cool use of a cutting mat.
That attention song will never be the same 😂
I really want to get one of these but I'm not sure I'd be able to make anything worthwhile with it. Good thing they're inexpensive!
can't wait to make me some tencho!!! 😄 great overview, thanks!
Great review. Thanx v much!
Great stuff!
Dat moment when you wanted to type OP1 in the video title but completely got bamboozled.
It's out of stock??? Already?!
Or still?
I really want one...

Also is that effect #15 the same one as it is on the tonic?! a KILLER effect for some wubs and transitions.
what about the velocity with this thing? can you change the loudness of the push? even afterwards? is it posssible to control the loudness of every drum-sound??
thanks for the video. I need to figure this thing out!
I've got one these on the way :)
Nice man 👍🏻

agree!
What are the chances of me managing to keep the top un-snapped for any reasonable amount of time?
Is play button to do with multiple units synced via sync cable?
I should not have watched this. Now I can't wait even 3 days to get my package 😂😂
We can be friends for the rest of eternity for your DK sample.
Can you still sample normally like on the K.O? Also how many drums are there?
On that last Jam that you did when you made a beat, it seemed like it was more than 16 steps I thought that the PO could only do 16 steps at a time before you chained 2 patterns together but it seems like you're recording 32 steps? how do you do that¿? if you can tell me I appreciate it🙏👍 thank you!✌
It did sound like 32 rigth?
getting spicy Analog Worms Attack vibes from this, with a hint of Kane West. dope af
I can sample through the mic holding rec and selecting a pattern just fine, but I can't seem to figure out how the line in recording works
You just plug it its auto
Hey, thank you for the video!
I have a question:
What I need to play this PO?
Just my headphones or some especific cable or equipment?
Just headphones
Red Means Recording Nice! Thank you.
How do you go about setting up cameras for jam videos like this? I suspect I need a boom arm head for my tripod to get the camera directly above the jam in a way thats not intrusive.
check out my instagram (jjbbllkk). i have an image there of my setup recently.
I'm confused. What would the play button do other than play your pattern? What's the question?
that's the joke
any other meters than 4/4?

It could, with some careful prep. When you record on it it plays a metronome
A great video as always, entertaining and informative. Big question though do you prefer this or the PO-33 K.O. and why?
PO 33 is more overall versatile. This one is more fun.
Red Means Recording, the fun was obvious in this vid, more than with the po33 I believe. I knew you would kick butt with this one. Nice)))
Thanks, you could sort of see/hear that in your videos. On balance I will probably go for the KO. but I'm amazed at how they've done it with the Speak and may change my mind!
What would be an option to for those voice effects in a live show? Microkorg?
I've had a PO-32 for over a year and I still have no GD idea what the 'play' button is.
I was sold on this one right away however.
Bro I didn’t know it has a whole tonic in it 😭
Now I have to switch my tonic sounds or the speak’s tonic sounds
The PO metal series always has some little nubs left behind after breaking off the hanger. I found that a nail file worked great for getting rid of them, they bugged the hell out of me.
Which is better for recording and playing cords? The OP Speak or the OP KO?
When you hit « play », your mother yells at you to « go play outside for Pete’s sake! ».
I felt this should be have been documented somewhere in the EULA.
Are the effects in the PO-35 different to the ones in PO-33?
what first two PO's would you say would be the best to buy and take on a road trip?
RED MEANS can you explain the line in n outs.. how many? what kind? is there a AC adaptor? thank you SOOO much. from a 60+ drummer this will be a reeeeeal challenge. so i can just play it thru my little 10amp?
Does the KO have the ability to change the key/scale also?
HELL YEAH METAL SERIES
I think the play button will Play the sequence of samples. But I’m not completely sure.🤔
Hmmmmm
Can you load different drum machine? If yes, how do you do?
What would be the best po so far? This makes the po 32 obsolete? Or kinda?
"nobody listens to tencho" -- emenim
lol
Well, he did speak truth about how Moby's a complete fuckface.
Takes one to know one....
Alexander Bus fair. Not a lot of people are listening to eminem these days either🤷🏽♂️
I own one and till this video I always thought it said Techno...
Should I check my eyes?
Do you have any intention to look at the Rick & Morty PO? From what I've seen, it looks a bit cash-grabby, like just a PO-35 with built-in R&M samples.
Yes skifcha
what button do you mean ^ ?
the "write" button?
...;)
i have to ask :) :)
Quick question for you, and maybe this will become more apparent when I receive mine, but at the end where you're creating a jam, it looks like you're recording a much longer timecode than 4/4. I didn't realize Pocket Operators could do that, or is that something that's only available with the Speak?
Hi Jeremy, love your videos -- came for the tutorials and stayed for the original content. Great stuff all the way around! Looking at purchasing an OP-1 but also really dig some of the POs' sounds. Question: How much overlap does the OP-1 have with the different POs' synths, drums, and 'personalities'? Can an OP-1 recreate any of the POs' sounds? Particularly interested in this one, the PO-35, and the PO-20 Arcade unit. From a functional/workflow standpoint, I'm sure there are plenty of reasons to augment your OP-1 with a PO but I'm really more curious about just the sounds available. Thanks again for the great content! ~Ben
Both of those are very unique and the op-1 doesn't directly reproduce them. I've heard a rumour the op-z will have some po tech in it, but not sure.
Gotcha -- Thanks so much for the reply!
when you record your next jam and upload it, could you throw in some anime samples? I curious to hear what this bad boy can do..... I've been looking at these Pocket operators for awhile now and almost ready to pull the trigger on them....
Me like tencho!
it works for live mode? like talk something and transform it live to a creepy or freaky voice?
Dope
5:55
Soooo Death Grips uses Teenage Engineering products?
You can make this sound effect from any daw, but i don't know if the use it
Hello, how to record pocket operator ? Thanks
Hey if I want to buy just 1 pocket operator, which one do you think is the most fun to start with?
20, 33, or 35
Thanks ;)
