Lesson: Never use AP shells on destroyers or any ship with light/weak armor. It would only result in overpenetrations, which don't do a great deal of damage. Only use AP shells on heavily armored ships, like battleships and heavy cruisers.
Use them on ship classes with a higher or equal armor ranking then your ship. Armor from the highest to the lowest: Battleship, cruiser, destroyer aircraft carrier. Meaning: When you play cruisers attack Battleships and cruisers with AP, the rest with HE. Battleships should only use HE, unless fighting other Battleships. Destroyers are best with AP, because you won't pierce anything with you HE shells (other then destroyers or carriers). But most important: This is just a rule of thumb, there are situations where this rule can and should be ignored (when the angle is too low for AP to hit at all/ bounce of).
@@nighthawkf1174 I was going to say that with enought angling it becomes a real chore to pen a BB and that HE is good to do some kind of damage while waiting for them to show a better angle/weak spot. But the video shows a broadside BB, giving only overpens, yeah, no.
Speaking as a BB driver this used to be a decent strategy before they lowered everyone's citadel and reduced the max damage AP shells did to destroyers. God how I miss blapping IJN cruisers with the North Carolina... so many dev strikes.
To be fair back before they started lowering everyone's citadel, it was the best choice since you could easily blap anyone who wasn't a destroyer, and even back then AP did more damage to destroyers than today. Fun times back when I first got the North Carolina.
Yeahhh too bad the time to switch your ammo is ridiculous even when switching while loaded and running the capt trait. That extra switch time can be life and death. Sure in a certain set of example circumstances like this you can make a point but i certainly wouldnt be switching shells back an forth in the middle of a battle while engaging various different enemies. So yup right after i waste a BB i dont waste time switching to HE to engage that destoyer who happens to be next on the list. I CD i aim and i blast that beech!
