One wrong slip, one second late, one moment of getting stuck and you are going to get sliced in half and die because trains don’t stop just after a few seconds like cars
Fortunately, (I think) there is an electronically-controlled gate at the station -- You can run across the tracks anywhere else that you want, of course, but that is on you. Amtrak rolls through here at about 60 MPH normally. Sometimes, they don't hit the brakes until they are IN Oceanside station. I ride between OSD and SAN all the time.
