The gut strings banjo was also at the top during the "classic fingerstyle area or ragtime area" with the famed Vess Ossman and Fred Van Eps, for the U.S.A., and Joe Morley and Tarrant Bailet Jr. for England; at the turn of 19/20th century.

THANK YOU for posting this comparison. I've come to learn that like with all other stringed instruments I play that replica gut strings just make the right kind of sound for me.
Could you please comment toward some banjos you'd recommend for a banjo that will use but strings and have a full bodied/warm sound. My price range is around $300 new or used.

There are two great things you can try with that Octave banjo .First try a set of Nylgut Minstrel strings on there and tune to D (dADF#A like G Tuning ) or double G (dGDGA like Double C tuning ) This opens up a multitude of possibilities of keys and voices .. Put a higher bridge on for more percussive attack .With the Nylgut strings they are easy to fret and the height lends room for clearer hammer ons and pull offs ... And lastly try a set of classic medium nylgut on the Octave tuned regularly for a bear of a sawed off shotgun of a nylgut banjo for jams ...
