ANTON GETTING ANOTHER SHOUTOUT!!!! Let’s gooooooo. He puts his heart into all of his videos for many years and now he’s getting his… Keep it up Anton! Thanks PBS for noticing him!
Awesome, awesome. I'm so happy to see his hard work and passion to teach showing to be noticed by other channels. I first heard Fraser Cain give him a shout out, and now PBS Spacetime's Matt O'Dowd. Go Anton!
He's got a pretty compelling personal narrative too, working in a Siberian mine to pay his way through a degree, and holding the high quality of his content despite the recent passing of his child. Great content creator to support!
HE NEVER covered the NEUTRINOS science . The wikipedia page about neutrinos is 10x more interesting than any Anton's P videos for example And this alone says A LOT ! But he's a cool guy per overall ..i give you that...he is more on the ''hot news'' side than on actual scientific divulgation. Which is WAY harder to do
It's always nice to see one content creator you love shouting out another. PBS Space Time and Anton Petrov are my go-to. I appreciate Anton especially for how he not only doesn't sensationalize scientific studies in the manner that most media outlets seem to but actively seeks to correct their misrepresentations. He's a great science communicator among a lot of noise.
We're excited to see how the Space Time community makes use of this amazing new instrument. So if you're a Space Time fan and you use the JWST (whether it's using the data, colorizing photos or using it in some other interesting way) send us an email @ pbsspacetime@gmail.com with the Subject Line "Using the JWST" and we'll try to find a way to shout you out!
Hi Matt! I assume that all your educational studies are over but I was wondering if you're interested in proposing a study that employs the JWST. And if you're not going to do any study personally, what would you be interested in, target wise, if you were inclined to study something?
"String theory failing to produce a slam dunk testable prediction..." You made an entire video about how String Theory is right. In that video you spouted off about how it doesn't matter if String Theory is testable or not. WTF? Do you science or not?
They'd never let me have the controls, but if I had a chance, I'd just point that thing in a random direction, zoom it right in, and see what it finds. No specific target in mind, just peer into the inky veil and see what I see. Maybe I'd find nothing at all maybe I'd find a first generation star who knows!
Woooo! Happy that Anton gets a shoutout! He’s had a very hard year so I hope a few people here will go check out his channel as he’s fantastic and hopefully he gets more wonderful people for his channel
As a resident of Maryland, I would like to recognize my. former senator Barbara A. Mikulski, for whom the Mikulski Archive for Space Telescopes (see 8:12 in the video) was named. This honor was in recognition of her support for the Hubble and James Webb Space Telescopes. In 2012, when NASA discovered an exploding star, they named it "Supernova Mikulski" in her honor. In addition to astronomy, she also supported biomedical research in Maryland.
As a physicist who works for the contractor that made James Webb (NG), I’m still in awe at what this piece of engineering was able to accomplish. Truly a remarkable time for astrophysicist’s and cosmologists.
Nice shoutout to the most consistent youtuber I've ever seen: Anton Petrov. Never missed a day in years, despite having lost his son. Such a nice guy and committed to the cause.
That young man is one of my absolute favorites.... And I was bawling when I heard about his son (didn't even know he had one, but that is because I was/am always enthralled with his videos).... Whether I love or dislike your channel is irrelevant if something tragic happens (my heart will be wishing you the best), but to someone I learned from and just enjoy so thoroughly was gut wrenching.... I love these TH-camrs who share the spotlight with others just trying to entertain us and maybe even teach us something. I may learn something new or something new to avoid, but it'll be an interesting ride 😎❤️👍
I may have an opportunity to work with the JWST next year, as part of my physics degree. The best part is that the project leader will have already done all the boring paperwork.
Love the shout out to Anton. Glad this subject has finally hit Spacetime. And also glad the controversy of the naming has finally been addressed in the mainstream, thought I was the only one. Thanks Matt!
Recognizing Anton for his amazing work!!! man it feels so good, the guy puts in so much effort in creating the videos and was subjected to so much trauma in the last 2 years but still kept up the work and kept creating videos. a big salute to PBS and Anton !
Launch Pad Astronomy channel did 2 video tutorials with the people from the Space Telescope Science Institute who did the actual processing of the released images for the Carina Nebula and SMACs (Alyssa Pagan and Joe DePasquale respectively). The tutorials follow the process of how to obtain and process the data from JWST into the released images.
This video came at the perfect time. Today i was at a physiks convention in a city nearby and there were one or two dudes who work with NASA (this is in Germany btw.) and who made some part for it - the filter wheel to be exact - and they had an exact replica which was used for testing with them. They said they finished working on it like ten years ago and are currently working on the next generation and are planning for the one after that.
For the last three questions.... ived replayed the segment TWICE ! Matt packed them FULL with ...scientific divulgation Its amazing what 3minutes long segment can do to your brains
Whenever I'm having a bad day, all down on myself for being a failure, I just remind myself that Anton thinks I'm a wonderful person. Then everything is okay again.
As an almost mathematician, let me say it with the polish Science Fiction author Stanislaw Lem. Mathematics are like a Mad Tailor (not a Mad Hatter), tailoring and seaming all kinds of clothing, not just for humans, and for animals, and plants, but also for things you've never seen before, eight-legged planets and amoebas with guns and walking clouds the size of galaxies but with a fondness for jeweled buckles. And with some luck, you find clothing that exactly fits you, or at least you like the look, and the tailor will change it for you if you ask nicely, but when you come back for the final fit, it might be totally changed from what you've chosen before.
I love how anyone can use it if they've got a good idea. That's how science should always work. The best ideas should float to the top regardless of who came up with them.
Since you use starfields in your background, might I suggest a recurring contest where the best starfield images produced by the community using MAST data get used as backgrounds for your greenscreen. It may spur further exploration of that data trove.
@@Tensho_C Indeed! 7 ° K is pretty cool indeed. That is the artificially maintained temp for MIRI while the other three instruments bask in a balmy 39° K. But you probably already knew this.
what's incredible to me about the residual strong force (ie, the component of the strong force that holds nuclei together) is just that - it's a "weak" residual of the strong force (actually very closely analogous to the Van Der Waals forces between molecules, which should give you an idea of just how comparatively weak it is compared to the actual strong interaction), yet it /still/ manages to be strong enough to overcome the enormous electrostatic repulsion of up to several dozen protons packed into a few cubic femtometers before it even starts to occasionally be overcome.
Great video. One thing perhaps that should be explained further (especially for novices like myself) is using MAST data with potential exoplanet spectra. It has been a steep learning curve so far, although very rewarding!
I still can't believe they actually launched the damn thing. I've been waiting for it to launch since 2012 and every couple of weeks I catch myself forgetfully wondering if they will ever launch it.
I don't think they ever did, really. If they did it probably crashed into Venus or it's floating about aimlessly. We could've colonized the moon by now with all that money and resources.
I've been very stoked on a bit of a trend I've seen in the past year or so of science education people like you or veritasium and electro boom and smarter every day and others, who are not just presenting cool science, but doing things like this in this video. Like showing how the process works you know? It's like behind the scenes footage in how they made the record documentary or something. Like, it helps make the process human instead of this porcelain object that you're not allowed to play with. Cosmos inspired a generation of kids to become scientists which is glorious, but what you guys are doing is inspiring everyday people of any age how to not only love and enjoy and appreciate science, but get involved in interesting ways and apply those things to their own worlds and realities you know? Thank you for what you do 🐱

Was about to say the same thing.
Love anton! Anyone know the Anton the time stamp? Don't have time to look
Such a fan of Anton. So glad you gave him a shout out. He deserves it. The man publishes a video _every single day_ and it's all solid gold.

I find his content boring and derivative, but hey.

Antons videos are a highlight of every day and I'm still binging on the old ones
Anton Petrov is a pretty nice guy, got to ask him some questions and he was pretty helpful.
Yep. Anton Petrov, Dave Darling and Dr Becky are my three go tos other than this channel. AP and Becky for space related, Dave for particle physics

The amount of nitrogen to account For omoahmoah's acceleration would be more Nitrogen then the entire universe. But that explains the Fermi paradox
