They FULLY expected their baby to be a boy, as their species is mostly male. Both fathers were shocked when hearing the sex, one even said “that’s impossible.”
@@orangequeen14 yeah, I know. It's just a bit of a culture shock to think that an actual female birth must be so rare for them that they've stopped checking. I mean, I guess that's one explanation for why they're so caught off guard by it.
Yeah, that twist in Season 3 really hits home! It's interesting to see how the characters navigate those big choices as they grow. Such a unique take on parenting!^^
I see the reason though. Its in their species with only males, its their tradition, and they are scared. Think about it, people are scared of new, of change
Its not necessarily new just, not accepted. They used to have the female sex, its why they still identify as males. The species just evolved to not need the female sex for reproduction so females kinda just, happened less and less overtime because the males were physically larger and could survive better because they could actually fight off other males (and predators) consistently compared to the females. Then it got to a point where because of that the female sex became considered a deformity.
You're right! Klyden was indeed born female, which adds some interesting layers to the show's exploration of gender and identity. The Orville really dives deep into those themes!🔥
Literally people getting sex change surgeries as children is a real transphobic thing that happens against intersex people. Because we decided that there can’t be a third option when arbitrarily deciding on two genders so they do surgery to make them look more like one gender. This is the same thing their species arbitrarily decided there’s only one gender so they are using surgery to keep it that way. Like people just don’t enough about how the world works and gender and sex issues if they aren’t directly impacted by it. I’m trans and have listened to intersex people talk about their life and this is basically the same thing.
Yuh. Just like forcing an abortion is bad because it violates the human right over your own body. If someone willingly gets one that’s up to them. This is why miscarriages are seen as bad, because it’s in a sense a forced abortion aka a spontaneous abortion in the medical field (which means treatment revolves around doing whatever you can to save the mother, most of which will not occur with abortion being outlawed).
It's not that she has to decide for herself, it's that they come from an all male species where females are basically non existent and the few ones are segregated and descriminated against so she would've had a pretty shitty life.
This was more so commentary on female and male genital mutilation, as well as operations on intersex children to try to conform them to one sex (usually whatever gender the parents would prefer, so messed up) rather than simply allowing them to be intersex. It causes health issues and identity issues later in life. There really aren’t any babies telling their parents that they’re trans and asking their parents for gender affirming surgeries and then doctors perform those on the babies, no honey that doesn’t happen so that’s not what they’re advocating against here. Or trans parents forcing a genital and reproductive system surgical change because they want their babies to be like them, no honey that doesn’t happen so that’s not what they’re advocating against here. No babies or kids are getting transgender surgeries because they’re trans or their parents or doctors want to force them to be. We don’t need to be fear mongering over that, it’s not realistic and it doesn’t happen- This storyline specifically is supposed to start a conversation about other different but equally difficult topics. So this whole episode? Not really having anything to do with transgender people or meant to commentate on them, but entirely to do with intersex people and their parents as well as people who have been circumcised and their parents. That’s what this is raising awareness for. We don’t need to jump to defend because of course nobody should be doing these unnecessary procedures on babies and little kids. It’s a little bit weird that you felt like you had to say this, I genuinely think you misunderstood this or weren’t aware of the context so you unintentionally projected onto it, because at surface level it does seem like it’s about trans surgeries! But it’s not. It’s about intersex surgeries and circumcision surgeries. Gender affirming care is a good thing, yes preferably once you reach teenhood and adulthood and you’re very sure of yourself. Mutilating procedures on the other hand are a very bad thing. Hopefully this information helps make the clip/episode make more sense.
Not exactly like us. They have no genders and compared to us, all are males. They don't have females. So, she is very special. But, yes, it doesn't make it better. 😢
This decision pays off greatly later in the series. Think of it as the beginning of a revolt against the traditional way of living. Very sensitive stuff
They have dual Sex Organs in there Bodies with the Male Sexual Organs as the Dominant Sex Organs but still have Female Sex Organs inside there Bodies allowing them to Procreate by Fertilizing a Egg and Laying it and Hatching it Out like a Bird.
it 50/50 now but it use to 20 women 80 men then gene that cause him to give birth to only male was make by sci because they seen male as better but they keep it hidden about that think of the tv show slider i believe it was basic in that show women was more nicer and stuff so they lock up all male to be breeder only as women are free but male was basic lock up because of a war cause 98% male to dead out
Yknow. Its really telling that people have no comprehension anymore when a show with a shockingly very anti sex change episode has folks going "Woke" because everythings woke now huh? The Phrase is and always has been a Snow Flake term for "Things i refuse to see because im sensitive". But of course because ill be yelled at for it because its the internet i dont believe in Sex change before you are an adult that decision must be made with time and age. Hell if you wanna get analytical, this episode could be a "What if the roles were reversed" with the same message of forcing someone to be who they dont want to be or arent.
Never read it as anti-trans but pro LGBT as in instead of trying to force people to confirm you should let them be who they're supposed to be which in their case is a girl. Her Parents later realize they were wrong and being different is not a crime or a disease just how you are. That some strong parallels to confirmation therapy and LGBT culture fighting to destigmatize just existing.
exactly, I feel like everyone should know sex changes are not performed on minors when the person is trans. As a transsexual man myself, I have never understood why people think it’s a thing we support at all. I saw the episode more of an analogy for how they used to perform sex changes on babies born with intersex genitalia, it’s purely cosmetic too. Obviously if there is a problem with the urethra they will need to fix it to let the child urinate. But a baby with intersex genitalia doesn’t need cosmetic surgery, they should make that decision when they’re old enough. Hell, they might not even want surgery and just keep it the way it is.
True but a tad myopic. Because today’s transphobic bs pretends that it is due to legitimate concern for the health of the child. Here, in a world where it is completely reversible in a matter of weeks; it is shown that what matters most about what decides the person’s gender is their informed and knowing consent. In the real world; we aren’t doing sex change surgeries on kids. That just isn’t happening. This show gets called woke because conservatives lack media literacy and it gets seen as anti trans youth because people don’t understand what the show goes out of its way to tell them; it was ALWAYS supposed to be Topa’s decision
forced gender confirmation surgery on non-conforming infants has actually been performed, horrifyingly, for ages. while doctors aren't forcibly turning newborn girls into boys and vice versa, doctors DO surgically mutilate the genitals of intersex babies, sometimes without the parents' consent or even knowledge. hope this helped!
