    pro-tip: always remove the fill plug BEFORE the drain plug....... it helps for may reasons. one, you can be assured you can refill the gearbox after draining. also, if say the transfer case was massively overfull and the transmission was low, there could be a bad seal between the two.

      Been there!
      Drained a trans on an old loader and the filler plug was rusted shut. Not a good day at all. Reach all my apprentices that on their first service nowadays.

      My 46 has the PTO driving a winch. Don't much like drive shaft to the winch, thinking of bolting a hydro pump to the PTO and running the winch with that. Your floor pan is in way better shape than mine.😆

    I had the same issue with a 1974 CJ5 I'm restoring. Transmission, transfer case, and both axles were full of water. I had to completely rebuild them all. I made a dust cover out of a scrap inner tube to cover the shift lever ball to keep water from ever getting in the transmission/transfer case again. Good luck with your project!

    Hmmm, would i rather watch Fred work on a awesome flat fender or some 4 door jeep that i see every time I look up! 😅 We all know how rare those JKs and JLs are? 😅 More weird/cool vehicles, less expensive shyt we can't afford! Back to the roots! Army Trucks/Flattys and other cool shyt that we could probably afford! I miss junkyard YJs and Dave! 😅

    The tank looks like it’s from a cj5. The filler neck is angled. A CJ2A should be straight. Could be why the hole for the fuel line is messed up.

    Loving this flat fender series.
    For that floor: wire brush it with a drill, then spray it with rustkutter. Then a couple days later spray it with Eastwood internal frame coating. I've tried a lot of different methods over the past 3 decades and this is what I find works the best so far.
    To fill trans & diffs I use a $11 yard sprayer from ACE it works great even with thick gear oil and no risk of blowing out the bottle unless you really have a knack for destroying stuff . I uploaded a vid showing this a few weeks ago on my Mr.Espeedshop channel.

    If you are going to deal with rusty vehicles it would be a good idea to invest in a set half sized sockets from Astro Tools. Makes quick work of rusted fasteners.

    WD-40, DM ATF, and peppermint oil. I've unlocked siezed engines with a mix of these 3 things. For an engine 3-5 seconds od WD-40, a shot of ATF, and a few drops of peppermint oil thru the plug holes, reseal and leave at least 24hrs. The peppermint oil somehow provides a bit of heat.

      Thank you for replying, but I was wondering more about the additives, or a particular brand. Some say that some types deteriorate some parts (bearings/bushings).@@4xFredWilliams

    • @jaywilliams2710
      @jaywilliams2710 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You need to look for ones that rated safe for yellow metals. (Older gearboxes use brass or bronze bushings). I believe GL4, rated are safe if you can still find them, but there may be some GL5 that are safe.

    • @williamallen7836
      @williamallen7836 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      One should only rescue a dog if they know how & have the time to deal serious behavioral issues. Almost every rescue dog I have seen has come with serious behavioral problems due to the long term abuse they suffered before being rescued. It's no easy task dealing with these behavioral problems. Plenty of petting & love does very little to resolve these types of problems.
