Maria Elena was no gold digger. The real culprit was Norman Petty, Holly's producer/manager who withheld important royalties, and continued to do so for Holly and the other Crickets long after his death. Holly wouldn't have needed to tour if he had the money that was rightfully his.

they didn't know there was a storm coming until they were hit by it, on the previous videos it was mentioned that the storm suddenly came in and the pilot had not received the warning before taking off
If you watch other documentaries on the plane crash. Gerry Dwyer’s charter services didn’t have the license to fly if the pilot had to rely on the instruments. Furthermore Peterson had previously failed his instrument test. He had no business flying at night, let alone in a snow storm. Plus Dwyer said that after take off Peterson never radioed in like normal. So immediately Peterson started having trouble. I place the blame the on Dwyer, he knew better not to have Peterson fly that plane. Peterson was just a kid and probably star struck.

The flying service owner Dwyer always tried to deflect responsibility for the crash from himself and pilot Roger Petersen. It was gross negligence on Dwyer's part. Petersen had flunked several tests on instruments before the crash. He was only supposed to be flying visually, on a clear day, and absolutely not at the dead of night during winter. There is a reason that he was sued by the passenger's families, and he had to settle with them. Because he was at fault for allowing a pilot to fly on his plane that wintry night, when he was not rated to fly, and on an unfamiliar gyroscope no less. Pilot Petersen also shares some blame for even agreeing to fly.
I don't know how big the plane was, but maybe the only way they could have been ejected was through the windshield? We weren't shown the bodies close up but they could have been in bad shape. I couldn't see the pilot in the wreckage, but to get him out, someone would have had to straighten the plane first? Idk...
When the plane hit, it crumbles completely apart. They would have been thrown wherever the force of the impart threw them. I read the autopsy reports on all four of the victims; they were all seriously, shall we say, messed up.
