Klean Kanteen: Wide-Mouth 40oz Review

- In todays video I am reviewing my Klean Kanteen Wide-Mouth bottle. I have used these bottles for my ride of the GDMBR in 2023, and my cross country Trans America ride in 2024. They will also be accompanying me on my ride of the Tour Aotearoa in New Zealand next year, this probably tells you all you need to know about how great I think these bottles are!
Thank you for watching, if you enjoyed this video please take a look at some of the others I have on this channel, or follow along with my adventures on my main channel which is linked below.

Cool
Thanks for the great review. I would be interested in a review of the Trangia alcohol stove and how you constructed the wire base. That base is brilliant!
I'll do a review soon. I found the stand design somewhere on TH-cam. It's made with a wire coathanger. Works great.
Hi Mat.
Dual use bits of kit like this are great, I always strive to buy things with dual functionality and, importantly, sustainability due to the supply of spare parts.
"Ooh, they're a lot more expensive than a plastic one", I hear people say, but these are virtually unbreakable and won't fail you and will be a once in a lifetime purchase.
Cheers 👍
I use the larger 64oz version, every thing you said is absolutely true. Amazing bottle , I use mine as a mini fridge too, diced bacon, burger patties cut into chunks, treble tie wrapped in freezer bags. The water is used for cooking. Other than that, on days out only, you have 1.9lt of cool water all day 😊
I've just bought a 64oz version for the TA. Great idea to use it as a mini fridge.
Meant to ask about those, going to mount to forks as frame bag eats up a lot of my mounting spots. Thanks for the review mat 👍
Thank you for the review! When you used stones to clean the bottle on your ride across the United States, it gave several of my riding friends and I a new hack that we can use. Thank you for sharing that!
Excellent. The credit goes to Pat. I learned that trick from him. Cheers.
Thanks again I purchased KK few months ago and Velo Orange Mojave cages and it is perfect combination.Getting ready for GD 2025
Good luck on the Divide. You'll love it.
Also handy for melting snow. Another knock against the Lexan or LPE Nalgenes. I have a set of stainless 1.2 liter bottles but Klean Kanteen are far better wide their wide mouth for cleaning and better seal than mine.
Thanks for this! It condenses what I've gleaned from your tour videos into one convenient place. I noticed when you slid the bottle into the Nalgene cage, it looked like it might slide out when going over large bumps. Is that an issue where you might need to strap the bottle down? Getting prepped for a tour of Northern Canada this summer, and these bottles look like they might fit the bill.
Good to hear. Thanks. That cage is called a Velo Orange Mojave cage. It seems to hold on to the bottle fairly tightly. It's never fallen out. Still, that cage is way more expensive than it should be. Now and then the bottle will bounce out of the cage I have on the other side, but that's down to me not tightening up the straps properly.
Great review Mat, tempted to get one as I like the flexibility but apparently newer models are not as good quality, thinner and dent easy apparently? Shame.
I've just bought a 1.9 litre one and it seems about the same. I'll have to see how it holds up but first impressions are good.
Be interesting to see how it goes, hopefully there was just a bad batch or some very heavy handed people!
Another great review! So not directly about the Kleen Kanteen, but rather about it in conjunction with what appears to be the Velo Orange Mojave cage. Using the KK with the Mojave, because it's metal on metal, does it ever make noise while riding? Perhaps this question may be answered if you do a review on the Mojave... 🙂
Cheers!
Hi Reinhart. The cage is sprung, so it never makes a noise. It's in there pretty tight. I'll add the cage to my list of things to review. They're expensive, but work well.
Do they fit in car holders?
They're a bit too big for mine. They make a narrower one which does.
@@matryderreviews I bought the insulated 32oz hasn’t arrived yet.
