Tell your morehouse and Spellman graduates not to move to sandy springs but to qualify for a 203k loan and fix up a property with a foundation thus revitalizing the area and keeping it black.

Having gone to Spelman College, this is like a second home to me and the gentrification is really overwhelming ... they even tried to jog on campus and were upset when told they couldn't. This video is VERY important and shares necessary history that people need to be aware of.

My husband used to live in Vine City, then moved to Bankhead Courts. The Courts are gone now, of course. I met him when I moved to ATL in '06. I moved back to Ohio 3 years later and he followed me. Been together 15 years. We drive through here everytime we come and see his mom, who lives off Cascade Rd. now.

I am a 70 year old republican, conservative Christian white man. For about 7 years I lived on Beecher Street in West End, across from John A White park. I never really thought about it at the time, but I was probably the only white person living within a 5 mile radius of my house. I never felt out of place or at odds with my neighbors and fellow residents. Only once in all that time did anyone say anything negative to me, and it was as I was jogging around the park where the baseball fields are, right off Cascade Rd. Poor guy was there from another area apparently playing baseball and all he said was, "Hey man, you're in the wrong neighborhood aren't you?" I'm laughing now just remembering it, but I had to rescue him from the other neighbors, lol. I actually said, "He didn't mean anything by it." I live in an upscale area on a lake in South Carolina now, but those memories and acquaintances I cherish to this day. I didn't feel different from anyone else there. It just seemed natural. The house was an inheritance thing and it saved me the expense of living Iike a pack rat in an apartment. I had nice neighbors, a yard and a park, and life was good without wealth or worry. There's a sense of community one gets from living there. I eventually moved to Buckhead where the environment felt more pressured than West End. But I still feel like a part of that place, even though I've fallen out of touch with it over the years. I still have old friends I see occasionally from the Bluff, so shout out from Chip to Long Boy, Little Fat Boy, Larry, China-man, and all my brothers from back in the day. How 'bout you Marion, Leon & Sonny Williams of Williams Bros Grocery fame. I love you guys, and I have to get back to see y'all soon. I have so many business things happening but I gotta make time for memories too. I guess I might stick out like a sore thumb to some folks but my people know me. Oh yeah, a cop pulled me over the last time. He said outta state plates but y'all know the deal...... white dude in a black neighborhood! He wanted to search me so bad but when I asked to see his warrant he gave the "Have a nice day" send off. Now I know how some people feel coming to visit me on the lake. And I dare my neighbors to ask 'em about the "wrong neighborhood." Let's hope that doesn't happen.

@3:35 idk why but that part was so creepy! The music suddenly stopping simultaneously as the vehicle comes to a stop. As it continues on to reveal a "deathy" looking street. Man I wouldn't feel safe in those streets. Death is right around the corner! 😮😮

Everyone should learn that these neighborhoods were purposely segregated due to racist policies. The music industry, the lack of food, clean water, education, closed down industries, decent living conditions, and work had led to the decay of urban neighborhoods. You can't blame people when this is what they were born into and expected to survive in. And now most are being heavily gentrified and displacing people once again! If you made it out of these neighborhoods, god bless u and I am so proud of u. U can do anything u want in life.

I lived in Vine from 1984 to around 1990 and I cannot recognize it from the video you took. Thank you for taking the time to make it. If you make another please say the name and cross street that you are on. I was pausing the video trying to see the street signs...lol. I'm glad that they are fixing up the area because a lot of history is in that area. But I don't think that it being gentrified is 100% the answer. I still think that it should keep it Blackness about it. I remember when the Marching Bands would practice in the neighborhood. Those were fond memories. I went back to Georgia a few months back, I was able to go to 5 Points but not Vine(I even took the Marta Train) Next time I visit I hope to be able to drive thru my old stompin grounds and see all the changes.

@@jameekadasjay8784 When I lived there is wasn't the best neighborhood. The crack was there but you didn't have all the crime as they do now. They had it but it was mostly some petty theft, maybe some fist fights here or there but using guns against each other was very rare. As a matter of fact I don't recall anyone getting shot during my time in the Vine. I meet my husband there while I was staying on Magnolia, and we are still together 30 years later. I remember working at a Churches Chicken on Northside Dr in the neighborhood and I knew they were gonna get rid of the neighborhood because the owner at the time was an older Black business guy who had connections with people downtown who gave him the heads up about the Vine area, and he told me about the city plans for Vine City which is why he decided not to sell the Churches Chicken at the time. He knew he was gonna make big money from it in a few years if he hung on to it. He knew about the Games coming to Atlanta way before it was made public.

Man the Bluff is not what it used to be at all. Snow on the Bluff is still my favorite ATL movie. Low-key better than the actual ATL movie lol They're really not trying to "Clean up the city" more like trying to raise the rent so we get the fuck out. We have to remember ATL is like Black Hollywood, especially for Black Women right now.

I'm originally from this neighborhood (Vine City). It's crazy how some things changed and some things remain the same or worse. It's funny to see the sprinkles of white people waiting on gentrification to be complete. 😂😂 All the new homes in between dilapidated homes is crazy. Smh I was hoping I would see our old duplex. We moved from this area when I was a young kid. In the 80s it was filled with straight dope and crime. Came back frequently though because still had family that stayed there on one of the good streets. 😂 Can't ever forget the roots.💪🏽 Vine City baby.
