  • Think You Know Wine features David Lawrason, John Szabo MS, Michael Godel and Sara d'Amato blind tasting via Zoom. Our host Renée Sferrazza guides our critics through the following wines:
Ken Forrester Old Vine Reserve Chenin Blanc 2019
Ramirez De La Piscina Crianza 2015
    Frescobaldi Chianti Nipozzano Riserva 2017
This is meant to be entertainment as it's friendly coopetition between old colleagues and good friends. Hopefully it is educational as well, either by being right or being wrong.

Another tough round, if Michael would have gone with his first instincts he would have taken the cake!

Learned about this show on reddit and I've been binge watching. The only thing I haven't enjoyed has been the youtube comments... lol. Awesome idea for a show, and I'm so glad that there are so many episodes, so thank you! : )

Interesting episode. Hard to evaluate all of the wines on blind. But like many times before, strong impact to all when John starts to change their mind...

Crianzas are wines which are at least in their third year, having spent a minimum of one year(!) in oak barrels. For white wines, the minimum barrel ageing period is 6 months

Why were the critics a lot better when the wine was poured from the bottle ? Do you think the little vial alters the organoleptic caracteristics of the wines ??

I agree there is a difference to this season from previous. I'm also curious how involved Renee is in the selection. Until this season, I don't believe the host has been a Certified Master Sommelier before. Definitely feel she is trying to test the group more than previous years. Also, not being able to taste day in and day out, I think people are rusty and more distanced from what's happening in the market.

I love the show and have seen all the episodes multiple times. There is one thing missing for me though, more grape varieties. It's a bit boring to see the same countries, regions and varieties season by season. They are all very knowledgeable, and I'm sure a nice dry furmint from Hungary, assytiko from Greece or blaufränkisch from Austria (just to give you an idea) could spice the show up a little bit.

There is not appellation such as Crianza or Reserva. In this case the region is Rioja and appellation is Rioja as well (DOca Rioja precisely). Crianza, Reserva or Gran Reserva are refers to a certain classification within the rules of Rioja Appellation, that's all.
Anyway, this is a great show!

Crianza is not an appellation. It's a designation which means the wine was aged in a barrel for a certain amount of time. Really really love the show but amateur mistakes like this really should be avoided.

Wow! This is like throwing darts. These 'experts' should be economists!
