Amanda Hayward she sealed the edges with sealant so it won’t go in the edges. Also there’s a lot of bedding, prolly won’t even touch the wood. Also the wood is a tabletop from ikea, which I think already has some sort of plastic lining on it

Okay, thanks! I'm also having a bit of trouble finding the Hemnes Glass top at IKEA for the cage part of the DIY. Does there happen to be another type of glass that we could use? The glass I'm finding at IKEA is either too big or too small.

If your cage is the right size then it shouldn't smell as hamsters only usually pee in one corner so as long as you spot clean it like every other day you should be good as long as it's a good size cage. And do a full clean out ever month or so as if it's bigger than the minimum size it won't need it more than that
+Ellie Thompson Yes, but he has lots of wooden things to chew on to keep his teeth healthy. Much safer and quieter than chewing on metal and his wheel is silent too

The Smol Bean cats shouldn't be able to go where they please in rooms with hamsters no matter how secure. It holds up very well ^w^ but everything should always be supervised

Hamsters don’t smell too bad, I have a male mouse in a tiny room and it’s not too bad
Edit: I do a full clean out of his cage once a week
