    For me... this is one of my Top 5 Tool songs. However, it is one of the hardest songs to get into. It is like your entire body wants to bounce to the beat but the band does not give you permission to do so with the different time signatures. It is only at the drop where they allow you to finally catch up to the beat for just a glimpse. It is orgasmic at that moment! Great job again.

    The comments really skewed your mindset going in to this album. The name and the two songs, Wings For Marie and 10,000 Days are about his mother. The rest is not.

  • @richardchurchill5181
    @richardchurchill5181 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Jambi was a character on Pee-Wee's Playhouse, a erstwhile children's show, created by and starring Paul Reubens as Pee-Wee Herman. Though marketed as a children's show, it was a cross-over to adult audiences because of the double entendres and other, more subtle humor. Jambi is a genie who grants Pee-Wee's wishes. While some assert the song is not about MJK's mother, but is about the birth of his son, I think you can't understand his feelings about his son's birth without understanding his feelings about his mother and his childhood largely deprived of the mothering she would have provided from his eleventh year on. Where Vicarious criticizes people for their voyeuristic and almost sadistic lives, this deals with his fear of loss while continuing at least some of the criticisms from Vicarious, including of himself. This is followed by Wings for Marie (Pt 1) and 10,000 Days (Wings Pt 2) where he is dealing with the final decline and eventual death of his mother, in which he again criticizes the "churchy" people who saw his mother's stroke as punishment for some unknown sin.

    When I first opened this video I saw the comments and was worried I had given you the wrong impression that the songs go together like parabol/parabola, the triad songs from lateralus, etc... but after listening to your comments I think you got what I was saying 110%. The songs aren't related in terms of their message or any deeper meaning, theyre just really fun to listen to back to back. It's so rare for Tool to end a track with a lot of energy and aggression then pick right back up where they left off, with even more energy in the next song. Usually there's some sort of soft track in between to let you breathe, but in this case the album says NOPE and hits you real quick with that Jambi opening. So that's really all I meant, that the ending of Vicarious makes Jambi just a little more cool and I think you got it. Best Tool channel, keep it up!

    I’m enjoying your journey into Tool.
    You’re analysis usually goes in a different direction than what I’ve heard before, which I’m assuming deviates from many Too fanatics. My only advice, for your consideration, is the following: When you hear the sound of hooves, it is safer to assume it is a horse you hear, not a zebra.

      @@betazep IDK, may depend on what a person is over thinking. For example, I’m really bad about over thinking break ups. Aside from the requisite self reflection, which is good, there is an element of torture that is not. Playing back a relationship in the mind is torturous. It can be all consuming to the point where my body is just going through the motions of day to day activity but my mind is elsewhere. Separated, if you will.
      Now, if you’re trying to decide on the right car for your family, go ahead and over analyze, within reason. Doesn’t seem to have a downside.

    I think it's okay that these first 2 songs don't need to be played together, but Wings and 10,000 Days do, they are basically one song. Also, I'm pretty sure a "Jambi" is a kind of drum that you can put your forearm inside to affect the volume of air inside and change the sound it makes by how much space you occupy inside the drum. I think it was this type of drum that was used in the song 'Reflection', it is the first thing you hear where the drum sounds like it's falling away.

    The song interprets for me, a spiritual awakening and rebirth. There are so many biblical references throughout the song that it rings very clear for me. But that is only my interpretation, as is the intent of most tool songs. I believe the song is clearly a dialogue of one turning their back on selfish and sinful indulgences and rebuking the nature of old ways in search of a closer connection to God.

However, Wings for Marie-10000 days have to be together and Lost keys-Rosetta Stoned practically are ‘one song’. The second one sounds really wrong without the other. Hope you guys see this! I have analyzed this song down to the last syllable like 100 times. So, I think I can help you understand. Analysis of literature (or poetry/lyrics) is kinda my thing but I wouldn’t call myself an expert so take it with a grain of salt.
    To understand this song imagine Maynard as two half of himself. The ego and his spirit/higher self/spiritual self/whatever the hell you call it. The ego is sitting “from his king’s Mountain View feasting like a sultan with treasures and flesh never few” as Maynard enjoys his life as a rockstar/entrepreneur. However, Maynard being the spiritual man that he is would “give it all away” if he thinks he will lose touch with his spiritual self and indulge too much in the pleasures of the flesh.
    - “If wants and needs will divide me then I might as well me gone.”
    - “No prize that could hold sway
    Or justify my giving away
    My center”
