I discovered IQ a couple of years ago and is now my favorite band. I'm working from their more recent to their earlier material so this is new to me.

This is progrock/neo prog in essence. IQ at its best. Please dive into the music of Yes, King Crimson, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Rush, Saga, Pallas, Marillion ( Fish - Steve Hogarth), Porcupine Tree - Steven Wilson, Camel, UK, Eloy, Druid, Anyone´s Daughter, Jadis, Airbag, Iluvatar, Pendragon, Barclay James Harvest, Ozric Tentacles, Greenslade etc. etc. etc- I am 72, the first time I saw Genesis live in 73. I was hooked, the best addiction ever.

Congrats for both of your channels, I think they are well designed and really translates your essence. The mix of music + psychology overview is perfect. BTW your intro riff is sooo catchy well done.
For prog rock I would suggest to look at porcupine tree, Steven Wilson plays some of the instruments and produces everything alone :) Maybe one this tracks: 1- Start of something beautiful 2- shallow 3- Trains all songs masterfully composed and with interesting messages

Porcupine Tree is great, my favorite band bar none! And they have a huge catalog. I would also look into Steven Wilson's solo work, especially the albums Hand Cannot Erase and The Raven who refused to Sing.

I am so glad that you took the opportunity to hear this masterpiece that few people have heard. The band is amazing and they should be huge, but they have a strong and loyal following that I'm sure you understand. Thank you for responding to my request, it meant a great deal to me. This is one of my favorite all-time songs and I listen to it at least once a week, and often more. I hope others find it as beautiful as I do. John Jowit, the bassist, won "Bassist of the Year" so many times that he now sponsors the award and has declared himself disqualified to win again. Martin Orford, the keyboardist has left the band, being disenchanted with the music industry, but is so creative and is one of my favorite musical artists. Thanks, Rosalie.

@@nikolajpinoteau3126 It's probably my most listened to song. I use it to relax when I'm going to sleep, but rarely fall asleep during it. Leap of Faith and Came Down are both brilliant as well. Ever was an incredible album.

Ever is one of my all time fave albums-thanks for reviewing it.The entire album was written as and after the singer's dad died and the lyrics are influenced by this tragic event in his life.

Neo- Prog is a great genre. Maybe, this song was a bit lengthy if you are not familiar with prog. This song is not made for one listen. It takes several listen to appreciate it.

IQ's lyrics are the cusp of being incomprehensible on a lot of their songs. But they are so musically wonderful that I don't mind the word salad disguised as "poetic lyrics". I happen to very much like the distinctive voice of Peter Nichols and the great guitar of Mike Holmes, and the other guys in the band are excellent, too. They have a large discography to burrow into if you enjoy their symphonic prog sound. Next to Steve Hogarth's Marillion, they are my favorites among the neo-proggers, who overall, provide some great newer material to provide some relief after you've listened to every classic Yes and Genesis song a thousand times. They are a great live act and still out there touring the world, playing small venues where you could buy a reasonably priced ticket and get close to the stage. I don't think they are coming to the USA this tour, unfortunately.
This album, "Ever", went out of print for awhile, and if you wanted a copy, either on vinyl or CD, the price you'd have to pay on eBay for a used one was quite surprising, if you could find one for sale at all. "Ever" was actually a much brighter work of art than IQ's more recent works. They have gotten to joke about it a bit, describing themselves at looking through the looking glass, darkly.

Rosalie, you probably will never revisit this thread. Please take it from me that we IQ fans have little notion about the lyrics, except that there's always tension, dissatisfaction and unspecified threats. Regarding the art - you should check out the English Pre-Raphaelites; the female model is in the genre of a "stunner". Love your approach to the music.

  • @flamedealership

Hm, lyrics wise I'm afraid it exceeds my grasp of the English language. Somehow I got lost, even with your comments on them, Rosalie.
But musically I could relate to the song. To me there are some influences detectable like the Synth sounds which remotly reminded me of Asia, Saga, Styx or even Alan Parsons. The voice also had a strong resemblance to the lead singer from Styx. Given the fact that that style of music was actually a favourite of mine in the 80s, I'm surprised I didn't know them. Although I shouldn't, should I? That's exactly why I follow your channel(s).
