So you’re wondering what it’s like to be a ButcherBox member. You’ve come to the right video because I’m going to show you everything there is to know about ButcherBox and what it’s like to be a member.
ButcherBox will automatically send you a box of meat at the frequency that you sign up for in your account settings. We have ours coming once every four weeks, which works for our family. But you can also adjust it to once every two weeks, once every six weeks, or once every eight weeks. So you have to for six or eight-week frequencies that you can have your box of meat delivered in. So in a moment, I’m gonna open up my box, so you can have an idea of what it looks like to receive a box of meat from ButcherBox. inside this box is the beef only box. So what I get in here is 100% grass-fed and grass-finished beef delivered straight to my door once every four weeks. Check it out. Right up top is this layer of dry ice. So this dry ice keeps your meat frozen during the entire shipping process. So you don’t have to worry about opening up a box full of warm and rotten meat. So really good to do this. Whenever we receive our meat from ButcherBox, it always comes in rock-solid, cold and frozen, just as you would expect it to be digging into the box. First, we have our grass-fed beef strip loin steaks. These are our flat iron states. So inside here, there are four flat iron steaks and grass-fed beef sirloin tips. Right there, grass-fed beef boneless chuck roast. It’s a wonderful-looking piece of meat right here. one-pound packs of ground beef. During this signup, we got three free one-pound packs of organic chicken wings. One cool thing to know about the chicken at butcher box is that it’s organic. And it’s never given antibiotics ever. So for the entire life of the chicken. It’s never given antibiotics.
Alright, so what you see here is a classic box of an all-beef box. With the exception of the chicken wings here which was a promotion, you would typically get something like this with an all-beef box. The classic-size all-beef box contains approximately eight to 11 pounds of 100% grass-fed beef in it. But that’s not the only choice. If you’re not just into beef. For us, we prefer mostly beef. However, you can choose a custom box from ButcherBox. And with a custom box. You can choose from specific cuts of beef, chicken, pork, and even wild-caught seafood. So with the custom box, you get full customization of what goes inside of your box exactly the way that you like it. That box is about nine to 14 pounds worth of meat inside of it. The price for a classic box is $149 whenever they ship out a box based on your frequency. You also can do mixed the box that contains beef, chicken, and pork. You can also do beef and pork box only, or chicken and beef box. With the mixed beef and pork, the beef and chicken, and the beef box. Those are all roughly eight to 11 pounds. The only exception is the custom box which you can get like nine to 14 pounds depending on the mix of customized cuts of meat that you choose to put into your box. The current price for the classic size in the Curia boxes is $129 is a little cheaper than the custom box but you get a little bit less weight and you can’t pick exactly what goes into your box. But what about the meat itself? I’m glad you asked. Let’s check it out.

Is the butcher box paid upfront with the first order or is it an occurrence charge each delivery?
@@purespective5375 it's an occurrence charge. But you can choose the billing date, and how often you want your box delivered. (every 4 weeks, every 6 weeks or every 8 weeks)
I love it. But watch what you put in it. Example: instead of 2 filet mignon 6 oz ea, opt for 4 top sirloin steaks 6 oz ea .. dont get wings unless a special or way over priced type of thing. Get the roasts briskets etc in the boxes, good value. Mind you Everything is TOP quality! The taste difference is very noticeable from our butcher to this box we Love it! Stay on top of add on specials. Classic box (sm) is $170
I ordered mine a few days ago, it's arriving today. Got 6 pounds of salmon. It says it's wild-caught, so what I'll be looking for are the thick white stripes that generally only occur in farmed salmon.
A lot of salmon bought at the store claims to be wild-caught but then you see those thick stripes and know they're lying.
On wild caught salmon, they're thin white stripes.
Did it have white stripes?
@@calebnimmons6719 I had to correct my comment because it turns out it's about the thickness of the stripes. They're there but very thin, meaning they were able to get the complete nutrition they needed, a good indicator of actually being wild-caught.
Just received my 1st box a few days ago and had the NY Strip steaks for dinner this e evening. And, without any hesitation, the steak was close to, if not the best strip steak I ever had. I am beyond pleased with the quality and cannot wait to try the remaining items.

This was definitely worth checking out if I move out of state. Here in Texas got HEB with some hard to beat options and Joe V's. Subsidiary of HEB can produce a meat box combo of 20lbs of meat only $20.
Sorry I live in Texas and shop at HEB and you can't get grass fed beef for this price.

Id like to know about the add-ons. It allowed me to add ALOT to my order...like basically doubled it. So like 16ish lbs lg box size with add-ons can turns into 30ish lbs...Confused if all that ships in the same box or a separate one?

Hi. Thanks for the review. I'm wondering how the cuts of steaks are if they're more on the lean or.fatty side? My family don't really care for the fattier cuts and the grass fed cuts at my local grocery store are too fatty for our liking! I will be giving this a try and hopefully they are well proportioned with not too much fat.
I actually find that grass fed beef is more lean. However, you can be the judge! I hope you like it as much as we do.
Just go to Costco or sams club like I did today and spent $109 and believe me I had 2 times as much meat as you did in that box. Happy days 😀

I guess a postal meat box is convenient for those people that are not able to get to the store. We have meat boxes here in the UK, but I'd never purchase one. Personally, I prefer to choose my own cuts of meat from the local butcher where I can actually see the meat and know that all the meat has genuine traceability and is UK reared stock.

They've been okay. My first box was completely defrosted. The ground beef has a gariny texture, the seafood is very fishy smelling and tasting...I actually don't care for anything except their chicken.

I live in Texas and my local HEB offers grass, prime, and waygu so this may not be for me however I wish I could get more special cuts like beef belly, tri tip and picanha . Also I can't get better pork breeds at my local HEB. Thanks for the time though ;) you helped me before I went this route

Right on Man HEB prime 1 cuts are so darn good. Not only that on some days you can get them discounted cuts but need to eat them that same day.

What everybody should know is that their customer service is horrible and they aren't going to help you if there's a problem on their end. Get ready to hear 'there's nothing we can do' over and over and over and nothing else. Don't buy butcherbox. Also the ribeye quality is shit compared to what you get in the US. They look great in package and you open them up and they turn into a flat steak. The NY strips are good but like I said, not worth the horrible customer service that doesn't care. All they did was blow me off -- nothing to try to make me a happy customer when the first problem came up after several orders.
I've been with them for over 5 yrs. One issue that came up was a portion of my shipment was thawed. Still good , just thawed. Called them just to let them know what had happened.Told them not to worry . I just wanted to let them know. More dry ice maybe. Didn't want one, but they sent me a whole new box. Above and beyond.
Ok gotta ask. Is it $100 plus dollars a month?. Or a year?

My box of meat taste like it was frozen just before it turned spoiled. I had to through it out. The strangest thing with the steaks and chop beef, it had no taste at all and the ground beef after cooking it, smelled like it was about to go bad but didn't have that rotten smell. It had a non fresh smell and it tase the same and I through all of it out. I didn't trust the meat anymore.

I used to love ButcherBox until they ripped me off. They forgot 1/3 of my order and gave me a 1/5 discount. Imagine that, they messed up and charged me for their own mistake!

Been a member for 2 years now, I mostly love them. Their ribeyes are sad (tasty tho if you cook them quick). Wish they had a wider variety of other cuts like my local Butcher, but...Butcherbox is less expensive.
I agree. They're not perfect, but no meat supplier or butcher is. Overall, they provide a good service for a good price. Plus, the meat is great quality for the most part.
How much do you spend a month if you don’t mind me asking
Where I come from if there is a brown color in beef that means it’s old. I’ve received ground beef and top sirloin from Whole Foods that were brown in the middle, and we didn’t feel well after eating, so never again. I saw a little brown in the steak you prep’ed, are they all like that?
I can tell you that I’ve never had any issues with the meat being old and brown. It’s consistently a deep red color. Maybe my camera lighting made it look like that.
There's is the BEST tasting meat I've ever had. Chicken, beef, and the pork. Awesome.. thank you farmers...

Isn't it USA law that no chickens ever can be given antibiotics? That label is also on everything in the grocery store.
Farmers in the US are allowed to give antibiotics to chickens to treat or prevent disease. However, they must ensure that it's cleared from their system before slaughter. Therefore the label can claim "antibiotic free", although the chicken was medicated previously. Butcherbox chicken and some other brands never give their chickens antibiotics ever.
If a chicken gets sick, it's separated from the other chickens and could then be treated and sold under a different label.

I want to order butcher box but their meat portions seem too little to last for a month no? max they seem to go is 3.5 pounds on a chick for the regular custom box for one person. the rest is 2pounds of ground beef or one pound or two of salmon or cod. if one eats that 2-3x a day.. how can that last a month?

The big box would give one person about 24 meals of a 12oz serving. If you only ate 6oz per meal, it would last longer. It all depends how much you eat.
Butcher Box bases their estimates on 6oz servings...
I eat 2 pounds of meat everyday on the carnivore diet. The highest I saw, with Butcher Box, was 11 pounds. That's only 5 1/2 days for me. 😔

Yes, you can choose an all beef box, or beef and chicken, or beef chicken and pork. All of these combos don't include seafood.

What if you don’t like the taste of grass fed beef? Do they have different option?
For beef, it's only grass-fed. I personally didn't care for the taste at first, but now I like the taste better than grain finished beef.. It tastes more "authentic"! They also have pork, chicken and seafood.
I'm a vegetarian, but only because I'm against industrial farming. If I had access to meat that's been farmed the right way or sustainably caught in the wild I would have no problem eating it. Unfortunately, though, I am also a college student and can't afford a doctor appointment

Yes
If you do a one time order, you would have to cancel right after and don't, don't mess with the calendar. After you order and while you're waiting for your order, the calendar will be off the date. If you adjust the calendar, they will charge you send you and charge you for an order. They have recurring charge that the bank reserves them the right and will take your money without notice.

It is pricey for 6 piece of meat
Glad it works for you but we are sick of receiving partially defrosted meats. Today's delivery did not have the top "dry ice." It did have a totally torn-open bag of dry ice. The meats on the top were completely defrosted. Some of the beef on the bottom was partially defrosted. There is no excuse for their poorly shipped and delivered products. The Lazer Ship carrier has at times delivered it a day late with the boxes torn open. The meats seem to be high quality but the packing and shipping problems earn this company a big NO.
I totally understand your frustration. Shipping seems to be the biggest challenge for all frozen food companies that ship directly to the customer. I have had my own share of issues with shipments, but ButcherBox has made it right every time. I will pass on your feedback to them, because it’s important that they are aware. Thank you!

Grass finished? Is it gamey?
Slightly more gamey than grain finished beef. However, we got used to it after 1 or 2 meals.
How do you know its organic grass fed?
It is certified. Plus, grass-fed beef has a distinctly different taste than grain-fed beef. The taste of grass-fed is better in my opinion.
How does the cost compare to shopping at a grocery store
About the same, but much more convenient and you can feel good about the sources of meat.
@@JaredDesrosiers I think it depends on location. I'm in FL and just did a comparison shop at Walmart and saved $15 dollars (based on the $149 box) and got way more even with purchasing the 'free' bacon to make it fair (uncured, organic, no nitrites or nitrates and no sugar). I also added 2 lbs of wild caught shrimp, so it was closer to $30 in savings.
I matched count on the steaks, however the ones I got from the store were 1/3 larger. Everything I bought was organic, wild caught, grass fed, etc. and the beef and pork were marked 'never any' for hormones and antibiotics.
Now that Butcher Box has raised the price of the small box to 159, it's much less attractive, not to mention that the quality of my second box was not great. The steak cuts were really bad. Blobs of unevenly cut meat, really. And the pork chop cuts are annoying, since you have to cut them in half to get a single serving.
For me it's just not worth it so, sadly, I'm cancelling my sub today.

That's a valid concern. However, I do know that many FL residents already get BB without issues. However it all depends on the length of time your box would be sitting outside. They are designed to stay cold for a couple of days.

The quality has gone done (2023). Chicken and pork is good. Beef is hit or miss. I hate that their packaging isn’t sealed properly. It could be why the taste can be off? No expiration dates either.
No, the beef has been going downhill for months. Grizzled, tough, lack of marbling. Pork products are much better.
You are cutting the NY strip in wrong direction
There has been a lot of talk about shooting cattle, pigs and poultry with MRNA vaccines. Rather than the public relying on internet "fact checkers" , we would prefer if Butcher Box would include a clear statement right on their website about this scenario and update that statement from time to time accordingly. Call it damage control, but please be transparent and communicative with us on the subject.
I have tried it, and was not particularly impressed. Some of the meat was very good, some so-so. ALL of it was expensive.

I don't recall making any color corrections on this video. What you're probably witnessing is one of the challenges of filming with natural light. The sun goes in and out of clouds and the lighting changes slightly.

Corn finished beef is very good, tasty and healthy.
Grass fed corn finished is where it's at.
I actually prefer the taste of grass finished beef over grain finished. However, I never turn down a good steak regardless of how the cattle was finished.

So the chicken just dies if it gets sick? Why would you care about the chicken getting medicine when it gets sick? I would care about growth hormones, but antibiotics is not something you need to worry about. Honestly if you have a whole foods near you they have a lot better meat than this. Their steaks are divine.

The chicken is treated if it gets sick. Those chickens are sold as regular chicken through other sources. It’s just the butcher box won’t sell those particular chickens.

Eating Adrenaline would do nothing to you. It would be broken down during digestion. You can not eat or drink it to get any effect. It needs to be injected into the body or inhaled through the lungs.
I hope the box doesn't come like that, this is just advertising to criminals. A plain box would be much better.........
