Is ButcherBox Cheaper Than Whole Foods?

- In this video, I am going to compare Butcher Box and Whole Foods to see which place is cheaper to buy meat. I purchased a Butcher Box and then bought all the same cuts of meat from Whole Foods. Whole Foods and Butcher Box have free range chicken, grass fed beef and humanely raised pork. Stay to the end of the video to see which one was cheaper.

Thank you for not being sponsored but comparing them anyway. Your awesome!
Yeah his transparency was a huge thumbs up for me. I appreciate the honesty and open dialogue.
Nothing wrong with being sponsored😊

Yes, on a flat iron video! I love those steaks but I am always unsure how best to cook.
With regard to the comparison - I was a happy Butcher Box subscriber for a few years. And then I started having issues - the delivery would be delayed at the last minute or there were weird discrepancies in the cuts of the same meat. But the worst was several months of receiving product that had the packaging compromised. You couldn't tell when you first opened because the meat was frozen. But pull a sealed package out to thaw? And blood/fluid leaking everywhere. When I reached out to customer service, they offered no explanation or recompense. After several shipments with damaged packaging, I cancelled my subscription. I'm happy to learn that Whole Foods can compare with better prices. Thank you!
Also ran into issues with packaging being compromised. One pack had practically leaked out and glued itself inside the box. Also started having problems with the meat arriving brown. Just wasn't worth the effort and lost money... The cost per package goes up quick with each package that arrives ready for the trash. Also cancelled the subscription
The 46 dollars was for the "free" bacon that you didnt get at whole foods... lol good stuff. Love these videos.
Love your channel, humor and positive attitude! Very helpful content, keep it coming and thank you 🙏🏻
I appreciate your honest take on everyday grocery decisions! Thanks for another great video
I really love your content! This is a great product comparison. Quality, price, and convenience all matter.
I don't know much about the flat iron steak so a video on it would be great. Thanks for your content. I love your videos!
WOW!! Super insightful! Thank you so much! Carnivore here! Always checking best meat prices!
BB is now $169 👎🏻
Just ordered my first custom box. $170 delivered to my door. I did the math in my area, and it was ever so slightly cheaper to go Butcherbox. Plus the convenience for me is a lifesaver.
Looking forward to getting it delivered.
Great comparison! Thank you for doing it. I would enjoy seeing your take on cooking flat iron steaks.
That was a great comparison and the price difference was important to note . Plus going to the store you can buy the sales they have that week. Thanks!!❤🎉
Wow! Great video...thanks (now I'm hungry!) ... I didn't expect Whole Foods would be that much less... Maybe a little, but the numbers were impressive, for sure. Thanks for the great comparison.
Great information! Thank you!
I tried to cook my flat iron steak once... I set my cast iron on fire lol. Love your stuff; cant' wait for your vid on it! I just need to get better at it.
Love your channel. One thing you failed to mention is BB is grass fed and grass finished. Whole Foods was called out in the past because of not being grass finished, but yet they charge the premium price.
If "grass finishing" causes the prices to be higher then you are being ripped off. Grass finishing is...free. Corn or grain adds to the cost. It's marketing for the most part.
@@m.r.jarrell3725 negative. Grass fed and grass finished means the cow eats grass till it is processed. If it’s not grass finished that’s the marketing part that rips you off. That means the cow starts off eating grass but then switches to grain fed to fatten up before they process it. But they will charge as if it is grass all the way through….I’m eating clean and do not want grains in my diet. That’s just me. And what I choose when possible.
@@oldnavy5322 I said exactly that. Grass finished is just a cow that eats grass up to the moment of slaughter. And, if you are paying more for "grass finished" than for "grain finished" you are being ripped off by marketing. There were no extra costs incurred, unlike with grain fed.
Grass finished still allows for 10% of their feed to be grain... so even when they say frags finished if you don't know your farmer... you have no clue...also Australia and new Zealand have very different regulations on those terms than us... butcher box isn't as "green' as they have marketed themselves to be
@@jujube2407 Thanks for the reply. I live in Texas and support my local farmer. So I know it’s not. Come to know them well.
That was a really cool comparison video. Thanks Wizard!
When I made the video I didn’t expect that Whole Foods would be cheaper. Thanks for watching
This was an awesome flipping review! I think I'll be canceling my BB subscription. It should alsob be noted that everything comes frozen so you can season anything before you freeze it which is a huge bummer for those of us who like to meal prep. And yes I would love a flat iron steak video!
Yes do a video for flat iron steak and what's the best ways to cook it. I personally never cooked one before. I'll give it a try if you guide the way. Thanks
Awesome thanks I was assuming it was not a farm but someone buying from farms. Great video.
Awesome video! Yes to the flat iron video and more videos like this!
I appreciate a video where you honestly compare the two without being sponsored. Also give us the flat iron video!
Looking forward to your video on flat iron steaks. They are one of my favorites.
Yes do a video on flat iron steaks. I’ve also always wondered what’s the difference between that and a flank steak
Good to know!!! I kinda figured already though, but nice to know at least the quality and taste was so similar.
You’re going to gain so many subscribers because of excellent content such as this. I just subscribed

Bro watch your back after this review 😂 just saved me some money! TY
Yes! I wanna see you work your magic on flat-irons!
Thanks for the review man
Flat Iron steak is my favorite cut. I find it very flavorful and would definitely like seeing it showcased in a video.
I'd love to see the same comparison using Costco or Sams. Great content, happy to be a subscriber!
Do Costco or Sam's even have grass fed meat like that?
Well done comparison and yes to the flat iron steak video.
appreciate this info, thanks! Fortunately, I have a WF fairly near me. My problem with subscription services is, and as has been mentioned, the sicknesses and quality of the cuts. Also, grass fed isn’t great all the time, I prefer fed grain finished or combination there of. it usually turns out that most of the subscription packages are disappointing, who wants a ribeye that’s not even an inch thick? WF for me, I also have a local butcher that I support. Keep up the great work!
I'm a long time customer of BB, never been to WF because it's too far. Not a Prime member because i don't use Amazon enough to pay the membership fee and come out ahead. Also, if you must drive to the store you need to figure in that cost and the time you spend shopping there. I don't see any savings worth my time with WF. I find the BB meats to be delicious and they constantly have great deals as well as add ons for their customers. BB wins for me, delivered to my door, can't be beat. 💕💕💕
Are you an A.I butcherbox person?
Yes would love to learn more about Flat Iron Steaks!
What makes Butcher Box cost effective are the member deals that they have every month. The box itself isn't a great deal but all the big sales you can add onto your box make it so much affordable. Just get the custom small box and then add onto it with all the big sales they have. Plus they notify with sales so you never miss them. I added 10 thick cut 18oz new york steaks at $20 a pound. Cant beat that when it comes to 100% grass fed.
Great video! I was thinking of doing butcher box, thank u for helping me out.
Thanks for the video. Could you compare Walmart and other stores?
Heck, yeah, on the Flat Iron, You're inspiring me to get my first Chuck Roll I have always been shy about doing home buctchery... Is that a word lol!!!
Yes on the flat iron steak video that would be great thank you!
Thanks for the information, i'm tired of seeing this brown meat at the local groceries and wanted to know if butcher box was better than or = to Whole foods... thanks for making the vid for us!
Great comparison. I was always curious about price now I know.
Show us how to find the flat iron and the Terrus Major out of a chuck roll. Keep up the great videos.
Thanks for a great video. I didn't know Whole Foods had the same quality meatss as ButcherBox. I'll start shopping there. There is one close by.
Yes, would love a. Ideo on flatiron steak!
I’m a budget shopper & a meal planner. When the budget allows, I treat my family to ButcherBox. My teenage boys absolutely love their top sirloin steaks. I’ve been a customer for many years & have taken advantage of the ‘For Life’ deals they offer around the holidays. Each of my boxes comes with two free 1lb packages of 85/15 ground beef & two free packages of bacon. Usually, I’ll select my cuts of meat instead of going for the curated box. Being able to choose the most expensive cuts of meat is worth the extra $20. Also, I check out the Deals. Pork tenderloin is usually $7 for 14oz.
For my family, the convenience of frozen, vacuum sealed meat is the main draw. It’s a luxury treat. The quality is consistent and their customer service is amazing. If I’m looking for high quality, organic grass fed protein, Aldi is the MUCH cheaper option.
Aldi is sold out of advertised specials, all the time
Same, at first I didn't think it was a good deal but not I have several for life deals that I get in my box which makes it worth it. I also take advantage of the specials and I'm good for a few months so I don;t have to order every month if I don't want to .
Yeah. What SHE said.... er... WROTE!
Here's my vote for a flat iron steak video. Thanks!
That was great! thank you for the video.
I'm a long time butcherbox user. I picked them up early when I was going keto and been using them since. I appreciate the quality and taste of the food. There is one negative though, and I'm not sure if whole foods does the same thing. It's the amount of blood still left in the meat. outside of butcherbox, the only other place I got my meat from was a local butcher who bought all his meat from local farmers. and they have a longer hang time for their meat and it shows.
When I cook butcherbox meat, I tend to have to either let it sit overnight in the fridge with some paper towels to absorb, or marinate the meat. if I cook it right away, I get a ton of the gross "grey" residue that I have to scrape off.
some people call "juice" but it's not. It's leftover blood from not hanging long enough to drain appropriately. some folks don't care, but it really bugs me, and to me it shows the extra steps of quality a butcher will go to for their meat. BB may struggle with that due to volume, I'm not sure. But if I could get a source of grass fed/finished meat that didn't have that leftover blood it in, I would switch in a second. Sorry BB.
Great video, one thing to note is that it her blocks meat primarily comes from Australia which has some pretty high standards for raising meat. Whole Foods sources their meat from multiple places, some of it is from Tyson. Just me I’ll pay some more to k ow where my food is coming from especially with how the USDA labels meat now.
WOW! Great video, yes flat iron steak video next please.
Please do a flat iron video!! I’d love that!
Saved me sir! Also I need that flat iron steak video
Love your channel bro
I would definitely love to see more about flat iron steaks!
You can get Whole Foods delivered IF (really big IF) you live near one of their stores. I do not live close enough.
Whole Foods meat isn’t always grass finished though..
I love flat iron steaks and we used to enjoy them all the time. Then, I guess social media blew it up and now it's cheaper to buy ribeyes in my area. Flat iron and flank steaks got to be the big thing around here. Like goldendoodles!
Yes to the flat iron steaks video!
I truly appreciate the upfront, quality, and price comparison between Butcher Box and Whole Foods. I had been searching for a review like this for years. I am very satisfied with Butcher Box. Their customer service is exceptional, and their product is TASTY. Yes, the price is higher, but I can count on their fish and other promotions to replace the second-rate quality that emerges as an issue as age prevails for a healthy diet. Their website is full of recipes, and all in all, on my time, replaces the inspection of the meat and 'slowing down' the grocer at Whole Foods.
You're doing God's work sir. I salute you!
Great channel.
Please give us a vid on the flat irons.
Yes but.... when you go buy your meat at Whole Foods and bring it home, you have to separate the cuts or or cut it up and THEN wrap it up and THEN put it in the freezer. Butcher Box shows up, I haul it next to the freezer, unload it, and I'm done! My TIME is worth the $46 to avoid the packing and handling and so on! Been using BB for around 5-6 YEARS! I get the custom box because I want the cuts and meats that I want and I don't want other things. AND I never have the problem of driving to Whole Foods (or the butcher) and discovering they are OUT of sirloin steaks or 90/10 ground beef!
Butcher box - support organic, farms w/ high standards
Whole foods - support big tech amazon, WEF jeff bezos, the Great Reset
I love the intro. 😂❤
This really surprised me as I love both places. I always felt BB was cheaper because I've bought the grass fed meat from WF but seemed like it was always a pretty high grocery bill. I may have to do my own comparison
Whole Foods varies from state to state. Butcher box is always the same. So, I'm sure in states like California the Butcher Box may be a better bargain.
@@zachpayne7388 Do you know if WF on Amazon differs by state? I hate to give Bezos more money, but that would be my only WF option out here in the boonies.
Wrong. I live in Los Angeles California and I just did this comparison myself. Added everything together and my bill at Whole Foods came out to $126. Surprisingly, Whole Foods is still cheaper.
@@LiquidKnockOutyou say that like everyone in America shops at the same Whole Foods

I definitely want to see the flat iron steak video!
Would love video on Flat Iron Steaks
I would like to see a video on flat iron steak. Ty
That was great!
Definitely would love a flat iron steak video
I cancelled my butcher box last year because the only way I could see cost value was to load up on ribeye and seafood. The seafood was better at Costco and even the local grocery store had better steaks. The brisket and picahna from them were tiny. Finding your channel and cutting my own (I also got the slicer and .75 grinder from Meat!) Put the nail in the coffin, no matter how many freebies or BOGO they had. Thank you
I had ButcherBox for several years. I eventually cancelled because the quality seemed to have gone down. I would regularly get very bad cuts. Especially with the flat iron steaks. So much connective tissue most of it was inedible.
I have bought from Good Chop and Omaha Steaks. Omaha is very expensive but the hamburgers were awesome! Good Chop hamburgers were just as good and depends a lot how you cook them and season.
Please do a flat iron steak video. I have found a place to get a chuck roll.
I get the monthly $306 custom box with 12 total items.
4 ribeyes (8 x 10oz steaks)
3 NY strip (6 x 10oz steaks)
2 chuck roast (2 x 2.25oz)
2 flat iron ( 8 6oz steaks)
1 thick cut NY (1 18oz steak)
Any chance you could do a comparison like this?
I love flat iron steak, I'd enjoy videos on this cut of meat.
I'd like to see you compare the chicken and salmon... thinking of cancelling just because of budget... Only once have I had a compromise package and they replaced both not just one. I was not impressed with their steak tips and I was super not impressed with the lobster
YES! Do the flat iron steaks video.
I do Butcher Box and I bought 8 riibeyes, they were the toughest steaks Ive ever had. I have to take my metal knife puncher over and over and over to make them tender enough to chew. So after watching this video I ordered 2 Flat iron steaks...we will see. Ill let you know. Thanks for sharing!
Butcher box is very expensive if you just get their basic box. The way I make it more affordable is to stack on the member deals and bonuses. Ground beef for $6#. Chicken breast for $14 for 3#. Not cheaper than low quality but definitely cheaper than higher quality options in the store. I just do an order for $300ish at a time and try to make it last 2-3 months.
Saved me$50. Thank you brother
Butcher Box cost: $149.00
Whole Foods $103 + Prime Monthly ($14.99) membership cost: $117.99*
Whole Foods $103 + Prime Annual ($139/12months ($11.58)) membership cost: $114.58*
* +/- any State applicable taxes or Prime/WholeFoods member discounts on select items.
Kind of not fair, because you already had that Amazon membership anyway.
hence why i factored that in the cost comparisons. @@tdtommy196

This is a fantastic video. I never thought the price difference would be that much. I used to be a butcher box customer. I thought it was a decent value but I guess not.
No you were right. BB is far better quality. Read the comments above.
@@JAspen-xe9nv I said it was better value. I didn't say Costco was better quality
For the sake of accuracy, let's add Amazon Prime's annual plan at $139. Divided by 12 works out to $11.58 a month. Not exactly a 1 to 1 since Prime includes so many other services, but hypothetically if you were subscribing just for the whole foods delivery it should be factored in. Love the comparison videos, looking forward to that Bubba's burger roundup if you do it.
most people like me already have prime even if i hardly go to whole foods i would have it anyways .
Not only that but you have to account for the "free" stuff that comes in each BB box. In this case, $16 worth of bacon. Plus you get access to sales/deals, sometimes insanely low 60% off prices. And in my experience, BB is higher quality. It's more obvious in things like salmon, even if they are both "wild caught," the BB is way better. Their beef is also grass FINISHED and not just grass fed like Whole Foods.
@@SmoothJK doesn't grass finished mean "we fed it grain all its life-- to fatten it up-- and then grass at the end"?
Butcher Box stocks pretty much 100% grassfed grass finished beef, if thats your priority I would go with them. Youll pay more for grass fed at whole foods, whole foods steak quality is pretty good though.
Hdoing?! Yes, a flat iron steak vid would be amazing! Have a great day good sir!
Where I’m at in PA the local farmers have insane prices with very suspect cuts leaving a lot of shit on the meat to bump the price for weight up. And the grocery store beef is almost inedible. We would literally throw away steaks half eaten. I’m from Texas and NEVER had this problem until I moved here. Butcher Box is a bit more expensive straight up UNTIL you compare similar quality. Which I literally can’t even find here in grocery stories. It’s totally worth $300/month to feed 3 of us the whole month. We also never have to remove excess crap or toss food.
