    Flight Deck (formerly Top Gun) is a steel inverted roller coaster located at California's Great America in Northern California. Built by Bolliger & Mabillard, Flight Deck made its debut March 19, 1993 as Top Gun. This was Bolliger & Mabillard's second inverted coaster behind Batman: The Ride at Six Flags Great America. The third inverted coaster from Bolliger & Mabillard opened a little under two months later at Six Flags Great Adventure. Flight Deck at California's Great America isn't quite as tall, nor as fast or long (in length) as its partner, Afterburn at Carowinds.
    The ride begins with a small right-hand turn followed by the 102-foot (31 meter) lift hill. The drop at the top of the hill begins with a sharp left turn. After the initial drop of 91 feet (27 meters), the train reaches its maximum speed of 50 miles per hour (80 kilometers per hour). Flight Deck then enters a vertical loop. The ride then performs a banked 3/4 turn to the right followed by a zero-gravity roll. Following this, the train makes a short dive under the entrance sign and then banks left into a flat turn, passing the ride's station. After this, there is a shallow drop immediately followed by a corkscrew over a nearby pond . The ride features another 3/4 turn, this time banking to the left. Finally, the train turns right into the brake run and station.

    Flight Deck… So small, so short, yet so powerful. Old-school B&M were masters at executing intense elements. While I count RailBlazer as the best coaster at my home park, FD (fka “Top Gun”) will always be my sentimental favorite.

      I used to go here every year. havent been since ~'05. Top Gun was easily the best rollercoaster in the park. No question. Vortex not so good, but still really cool. Demon is rough. Grizzily has a line of 3 people and you can ride it over and over and over until you're bored... haha

      if they relocated this to Canada's Wonderland and replaced *their* Flight Deck with this, I would be very happy - genius decision (the Canadian Flight Deck is an absolutely awful Vekoma SLC and needs to go, rough af and a total waste of space)

      That said, IMO Railblazer and Vortex have the best chance at being relocated. Railblazer is new, and Vortex while old is built on fairly flat ground. I wonder if Cedar Fair is willing to sell it to Six Flags. SFDK has been expanding in the last few decades.

    • @RollbackMedia
      @RollbackMedia 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      There are so many things wrong with this sentence including but probably not limited to:
      1. The ride features over the shoulder restraints, not lap bars
      2. There is only 1 loop on the ride, the other inversions are a zero g roll and a corkscrew
      3. You cannot step foot on the ride itself or the ride car because your feet dangle from the trains
      But ok

    California's great America..I never heard of it before.. How does it compare to six flags?

    • @NorCalCoasterMedia
      @NorCalCoasterMedia 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      California's Great America is part of the Cedar Fair parks chain. It gets competition from a Six Flags park about 1 hour away called Six Flags Discovery Kingdom

    • @goldenshark3182
      @goldenshark3182 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Six Flags Great America outside of Chicago was originally a twin park to California’s Great America in Santa Clara. They both opened as Marriott’s Great America in 1976 with the same rides, but then in the early 80’s they started to differ with the Chicago park adding bigger coasters which the Santa Clara park couldn’t build. Then Six Flags bought the Chicago park and Paramount bought the Santa Clara park who eventually sold to Cedar Fair and they’ve been really different ever since.

    • @ryanb9749
      @ryanb9749 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1
