The only thing I would've done differently is add a layer of gravel to the bottom of the hole, this will stop soil/compost blocking the drainage holes you cut.
Great selection of plants with the contrasting colors and varying heights! Your dogs caught my eye- they look like mine, who is a tricolored mutt. What kind are they? Thanks for the video, I have a couple around my yard.
I just saw your video on TH-cam I just turned 64 and The Neighbor Next Door had a 17ft tree that died last year she wanted to get an arborist to cut it down and it cost about $1,500 one day I just grabbed the Chainsaw cut the thing down chopped it up and saw your video and decided to make a planter out of it looks very nice took me about three or four hours to do it I put some clear polyurethane around it so it wouldn't crack and then that turned out very well thank you very much🤩
Great video. Love the planter. My neighbor just cut down a large tree in his yard and gave me five stumps. I plan to make two planters and use the other three use for plant stands. You have great talent. Blessings 🙏🏾
Dude ive tried watching this sp many times, i have some logs i want to hollow out but im so apprehensive to try doing plunge cuts as i've only ever cut fire wood with a chansaw before 🤕
I like your idea, but man shorts... are your shoes steel toed? I will be using my chaps, and some safety gear - one slip up and you can easily die from a leg artery cut. Be careful out there.
Yes it will, especially if you don't remove the bark and the inner cambium layers (which is the circulatory system for the tree and holds a lot of moisture!) It will need to be sealed as the crazycatlady6396 says below.. As it rots, you can expect grubs to get into the wood--but they aren't the bad grubs that eat your grassroots; this kind only eats decaying organic material, and poops out processed material that's healthy for plants.
Watching you jamming the saw tip straight into the stump whilst wearing shorts made my junk nervous. 😅 nice result but is that a legit chainsaw technique??
Cut the stump a few inches above the ground. Then take the log and cut It in half. Then cut out center wood or both half’s and paint with copper coat wood preservative then screw back onto base with some plastic shims. Will last a lot longer and faster to cut. That will rot out in 2 years
I think it was Teddy Roosevelt who said "Talk quietly and include very loud music"... Jesus man, I think I broke my volume knob trying to watch this. Good technique on the stump flower pot. My god that music though. No.
I see why they cut the tree down. It was dead as evidenced by the soft heart wood. The planter may accelerate the decay since nothing was used to treat the edge of the stump to slow/prevent rot. Many old stumps in the forest have shrubs and seedling trees growing out of them. Don't be afraid to look around for what looks really natural. Cheers!

Wow great idea! I wish I would have thought of this!

Wow, what an awesome gesture. I’m so glad I could inspire you!
Omg! I was fearing for his feet when he was using that chainsaw.
You must use that thing often!
Yeah I realized when I was editing this video how dangerous it looks. It didn’t seem that dangerous in the moment.

Experience is everything.
It looked beautiful in the end!
@@annettewilcox5413 thank you

Thank you

Brilliant... you made it look so easy!
Good work. ❤ Thanks respect from Connecticut.
thank you so much...lots of work ahead for me and hubby... 4 stumps ! you rock !
Sick job bro 🫡
You gave me an idea! Thanks!
I have a rotted oak tree that finally fell down in the wind so next year def planting wildflowers in it lol
Do you drill the hole in the part where you put the dirt or further down the tree stump?

Yeah now looking back on this video, it probably wasn’t the greatest idea. Thankfully nothing bad happened.
Do you have to wait until the stump has dried out to do this?
Was the wood in this stump soft in the middle? Or was this tree cut down a fews years before you did this?
Wish everyone would do this, or at least place a large basket of colorful flowers right over top.
what kind of chain did you have on your saw?
The one that came with it.
@@MakersLane Thanks. Just finished a stump with the help of your video.
Won't the wood rot?
Yes. My stump started rotting. Need to knock off the outside bark, sand, brush it, then coat with polyurethane.
@crazycatlady6396 A lot of work

Great work! How long did it take you to cut the hole? 2 hours?
About 30 minutes. It helps to have a sharp chain.

Yeah sorry, I was still learning how to edit videos when I made this.
Good vid, grab yourself some mics, better to hear you with.
