Everybody is commenting about how nasty it is that he put it on a plate how do you know that plate is going back into his sink to be used for food again I personally have a plate and a few Tupperware bowls strictly dedicated to my reef tank that will never again hold food to be consumed the point of the video is to show a working trap and he did an excellent job at that
I noticed a few in my tank last night and they look just like these. I was thinking they were fireworms, just because of the red color. Gonna have to try this method.
@@Nekrozmik no most bristle worms have hairs along the body used for travelling through sand or mud and as defence against predators pick a bristle worm up see if I’m wrong lol fire worms are bad because unlike bristle worms they will hunt fish and I think they have been know to kill certain corals
@@Funwithhighnotes I agree not all are poisionous but I never said they were,I said they sting with the hairs on the side of the body which can cause weeks of irratation either way I never used to put my hands near the sand or rocks due to this.
Ive had these I boil my live rock in boiling water and regrow rock in separate tank with high CO2 for a week then put back in tank never have worms again
They live in the live rock and hitch a ride home from the fish store. Dipping your rocks/corals in freshwater usually takes care of them as they will immediately exit the rock. Occasionally in rare cases the freshwater dip won’t get all of them. Given the right circumstances, like over feeding of your tank, they can multiply like crazy as they have plenty of detritus to eat.
@@Funwithhighnotes thank you for the information however by ppl knowing this is it possible you can soak the rocks in some kind of substance to kill it then put rinse the rocks off and put it in the tank
@@Franksinatra96 Yes and no. As mentioned in one of the other comments, you can freshwater dip your live rock and corals (you can also use a hydrogen peroxide dip for corals but I do not know the procedure) but even then, you may not get all of them. They've been around for millions of years so expect it to be a battle. Or use this cool trap for a buck and be done with it.
Bristle worms are good for a reef tank fire worms are the bad one this are the ones you shouldn't touch with your hand I have Handel bristle worms with no effect what so ever fire worm are more colorful and the heirs are more white.
I have so many bristle worms in my tank they literally lay on the sand in the daylight!! They are HUGE! I'm definitely making this trap!! I have tried a sixline and an Arrow crab with No luck at all!!
The trap is basically the only way to get rid of them. Fireworms are bad, yes, but some species of bristleworms can also be poisonous. Besides that, left unchecked, they can create a large bio load on your water. Make sure not to over feed your tank. The worms can be beneficial in some circumstances but overfeeding your tank means a lot of food ends up on the bottom and the worm population can explode this way.
Do you eat off your plate after you left it out longer than 4 hours and let salmonella grow all over it? No, you wash it, and then you eat off it, safely. Same thing, only salmonella is FAR worse.
Why don't you want bristle worms in your reef tank? They are reef safe and are great at cleaning substrate. Plus they provide a food source for different fish and inverts. I'm confused by why one would want to get rid of them especially if they are not bothering anything.
At this time they were out of control, yes I want some in the tank as they clean excess food. I also have a trigger that loves to eat them as well. I just wanted a bit of control.
Old video but these are FIREWORMS and are bad for corals because they irritate them, remove them all. Bristle worms are gray and not that wide. I know because i have really big ones and small ones, many of them, and they don't touch corals or anything.
I don't know who told you that a plate full of parasites and bacteria into your sink and plate was sanititary but you need to stop asking that person for advice. Wtf dude? As far as your video, thank you, it was great advice. Your good at giving advice just terrible at getting it.
Really can't thank you enough for this. I'm about 1 hour in and have already seen 3-4 worms crawling down the pipes.

Dude, this plate is ceramic. With some soap and laundry detergent it's good as new and perfect to eat out of. No big deal.
Exactly

I'm making one today! Thanks for the video!! I hate those buggers.
Very helpful, I am going to copy you and try and remove these from my tank as well.
don't touch the sand with bare skin these lil guys can sting yah with the hairs on the side of the worm herd its not nice
Sting aku yahuuu 😂
You are right. My hand had little bumps on it. It wasn't nice at all.

Fantastic thanks for the informative video, I will try it..
did it work?
A brilliant idea, can't wait to try this one, Thanx guys !
did it work?
OH MY GOSH!! Thank you because I have these dang things so bad!
What did you use for the actual plastic thingy? ;) . Thank you! :))
Great video. Wished I had seen this about 5 years ago. Obliterated my tank those bastages.
Omg same
I've seen one in my tanks similar size to the big one on the plate? Is that a size that can cause problems?
im just wondering why you dont have a sea anemone for your clown fish. am i mistaken, or is there on in your tank?
Everyone calling this guy gross? Tf, does no one wash dishes? Y’all are nasty
Haha
Ryan Mottinger I got you man. Not hard to rinse and wash some dishes ✊
Exactly!!
Don’t you want to keep some of those? What is the reason for eradicate them?
That's awesome ! Thanks for posting :-)
On a dinner plate though?
good info, thanks I subscribed looking forward to more videos.
My tank has a white worm, what kind of this whorm actually, and it's dangerous for my fish..?
How did you know the worms reached that many ? I know I might have some but really don't see them .
at night time I turned on a flashlight and ball park estimate how many there were
Years ago ,when I had my feet tank. I would do this before a 25 % water change just to stay on top of things.
Ive had these I boil my live rock in boiling water and regrow rock in separate tank with high CO2 for a week then put back in tank never have worms again
My question is if you buy all that stuff where does these worms come from like how they just mysteriously ended up in your tank
Different frags. Even if you dip sometimes tbeyll just end up in there.

@@geesus3904 well I figured it out take the rocks that they live in and heat it in the oven you won't have to worry then or boil some hot water
So did you hatch the brine eggs? Or just put dried brine shrimp eggs in the bottle and add water??
Great idea! Thanks
Thanks for the tip.
How did they get inside your tank
They usually come from a live rock in the tank
what bait did you use?
Dried brine shrimp
brittle worms are great clean up crew.
dnyceli no they will kill everything
They can be a great clean up crew depending on what species they are and what predators you have in your tank to keep them in check.
What do I do if I’ve got ones that are a foot long and an inch wide
Are you sure your talking about a bristle worm? Lol

There's more concerned about the plate😂
when someone else eats off of that plate without it washed

They killed my snails in my refugium now the walls are green with algea argghhh
Bristle worms are good for your tank.
A few of them in there were fireworms which are not good.
Can't the bristle worms escape back out the trap?!
geraldine mccann nope the fall in and can't get out
That's exactly why I don't trust eating in someone's else home. You never know of their "filthy customs".... eww!!
A doorknob is 1000x "dirtier" than a plate of aquatic organisms and sand
Have you heard of this thing called washing dishes?
Wow right on top of the dinner plate don’t invite me to dinner🤣🤣🤣
Washing dishes is a real activity, you dumb bitch.

They look more like fireworms
Coral? You have no coral
Your not gonna use that plate again, right?
I have that same plate lol
lol
Gross....but amazingly done.
EGGS man. They are NOT gone. Also... sixline wrasse.... get one of those. They WILL kill them.
I've got a six line in both tanks and have never seen either eat a brissle worm, and I ended up with more than this guy. I wouldn't count on it.
I have had a sixline wrasse for over 3 months and I have not seen him eat ONE!! Even an arrow crab. So I'll definitely be trying this trap!
Don t eat in this now
Lol
throw the plate away
did you throw away the plate and did your wife or kids watch this video...ewwwww
fed the kids then showed it to them
