  • On September 3, the Dakota Access pipeline company attacked Native Americans with dogs and pepper spray as they protested against the $3.8 billion pipeline's construction. If completed, the pipeline would carry about 500,000 barrels of crude per day from North Dakota’s Bakken oilfield to Illinois. The project has faced months of resistance from the Standing Rock Sioux tribe and members of nearly 100 more tribes from across the U.S. and Canada.

      +Anon Anon who the fuck names their kid Anon? I can just tell you're an idiot... it's weird how you can not see somebody's face or can only hear their voice but can just tell that they're an unintelligent idiot lol why are you defending these people is the question? do you drill for oil? do you know what exactly has gone on with that land and why all these people are standing up for it and protecting it? you're absolutely Clueless and it's kinda cute

    • @JustinPR612
      @JustinPR612 8 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      No, it's not just Native Americans claiming this land is theirs "Anon"... do you do your research at all? Do you know how much oil we have stockpiled? You think the greedy ass United States of America would let this nation run out of oil any time soon? Seriously man open your eyes and fucking get on Google for 5 minutes. Fuck pipelines... we need to conserve as much land as we can before it's all gone. You might be an old man that doesn't give a shit about the future but I'm only 24 and I refuse to sit back and let all you people turn this world into shit for my kids to see... and in the end it's all for $$$

      Okay well I apologize for the name calling I'm just sick of people following what the government says all the time and not standing up for themselves. Just wait... I probably would have been on your side when I was 19 also but a lot of s*** is going to open your eyes in these next few years I assure you that. There are plenty of great alternatives to this problem but that means these companies have to pay a little bit more money and that's where the greed comes in. Nevertheless we need an alternative to our fuel situation because this oil thing isn't going to work forever... better yet another 50 years so we need to do what we can to preserve nature and life while we can. Technology has come so far! Just look at some of these electric cars they are putting down faster times in combustion engines.

    • @JustinPR612
      @JustinPR612 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      ***** look at that! Lol two people that were enemies 20 minutes ago are now agreeing! But you are right about electric motors being exciting. I wasn't too fond on the idea at first (just because I love cars and combustion engines) but the truth is some of these newer electric cars can outperform gasoline engines. I can tell you're a smart dude you'll do just fine. You argue better than most full ass grown adults so props.

      David Davidson First of all, you need to learn how to spell, and stop with the fox 'news' talking points. The republicans appointed people to a committee that steamrolled all opposition to the pipeline, the big oil companies who grease all republican wallets, and then the republicans spoon feed you their own excrement and you devour it willingly. There is nothing communistic about reporting on facts and what is unfolding in front of a reporters own eyes. These dog handlers should be put in prison for using a deadly weapon against peaceful protestors. As for the 'they should buy the land' argument, you are obviously once again an ignorant fool, the corporations and republicans used the archaic 'imminent domain' law to just take away peoples lands, without as much as an argument. They are breaking tribal treaties that have existed for hundreds of years by just bypassing the tribal councils. Shame on you for not knowing anything about the situation, and then harassing people who actually know what is going on.

This was a big, big, disdainful fuc k you to native Americans everywhere (I'm Iroquois myself). Frankly I'm ashamed i wasn't there, all I can say is I'm young and had school at the time as well to attend to. Anyway I'm a firm believer in the phrase "just because something is legal doesn't make it right". Saying it's not the indigenous people's land and pipelines are safe to transport oil. ... over 100 different tribes (and continues to grow) are standing up against the big corporations who will destroy the earth. This doesn't just effect Native Americans but central America. We have learned from the past that pipelines will eventually break and it will be to late if it happened. #NoDapl

      Energy Transfer Partners is being allowed as a for-profit company to trump federal trust responsibilities guaranteed in the 1851 and 1868 United States treaties with the L/D/Nakota tribes, which remain the supreme law of the land as guaranteed in the US constitution.
      The proposed 1,172 mile long pipeline slated to carry fracked oil from the Bakken oil fields in North Dakota to Patoka, Illinois is ignoring pending legal action taken by the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and other Oceti Sakowin tribes of the Lakota/ Dakota/ Nakota Nation in an effort to lay as much pipe as possible while ignoring treaty law, the Clean Water Act, the National Environmental Policy Act, the National Historic Preservation Act, and the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act.

    Nobody is saying why desecrating Indian land is so important.
    Why the government allows a corporation to break a treaty agreement.Why is
    there still a need to drill for oil when there's plenty of oil wells
    capped in the United States. And most of our oil comes from overseas
    anyway.

      Originally the entire land within the continental United States as well as Alaska & Hawaii belongs to the Native Americans and for many years they've had to fight for this land unfortunately.

    • @schouvler25
      @schouvler25 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Andy Drumburg So whats your point? So we should all renounce our land and leave? I dont get the point of noting that is unless you mean to say that land should be somehow given to the tribe. The problem with that is where does that end? So the local farmers who have had nothing to do with the natives that bought this land just lose it?!

    • @jakobitaliaferro200
      @jakobitaliaferro200 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      No I'm not advocating renouncing the land and leaving because it's far too late to do something like that and even the Native Americans most of whom anyways would make similar if not the same statement that I just made. But the point is that this pipeline will destroy the environment and rob the Sioux of any rights they have left. Since the colonization of this great and massive continent, we have pushed the original inhabitants to the curve for our own foolish and selfish interests. Again I know that we can't just up and leave and give this whole continent back to the Native Americans because there's no way that something like that would or could happen, but this pipeline poses a threat to the rights of the Sioux and other Native Americans as well.

    • @schouvler25
      @schouvler25 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Andy Drumburg What threat does it pose? A possible contamination of the Missouri River? Theres been dozens of inspectors from the state and the army engineer crew who have approved the project with several safety measures in place. As for destroying the environment, were already sending oil by rail with is far more dangerous and impactful on the environment. I fail to see what rights of the tribes that are infringed upon with a pipeline NOT on tribal land with numerous oversights. If they can intervene on private us soil why cant i go onto tribal land and cut nets? This protest hinders on a double standard which could trigger a problematic precedent.

Everything should be done to protect the water we have. All I'm saying, if you're not going to do something like that the right way, don't do it at all. It can be done right. Spend a bit more money on it. Have better engineering. Explain to the people, that transporting oil through your superior pipeline, is safer then the alternatives. That kind of thing takes ingenuity, time, patience, money and people that actually care about others and the world they live in. If you believe that is somehow a cost, that is too high a price to pay, to negate the potential environmental impact of doing a shitty job, then I don't know what to tell you.

      Just because the DAPL path will not be through the reservation doesn't mean it is not in Sioux territory. The Native Americans weren't forced onto the reservation until 1889. The Fort Laramie Treaty was signed in 1868. The DAPL path passes through their territory, the treaty stipulates that no white person or persons shall be permitted to settle upon, occupy, or to pass through any portion of the land without the consent of the Native Americans.

      The fact that you are online means you support the tech industry in one way or another. The tech industry is the largest user of rare earth metals which are mined in many third world countries. Thousands of square miles of delicate rain forest are destroyed to get the materials needed for the batteries in your devices.
      You are as much a part of the problem as anyone else. Just because you aren't driving the bulldozer doesn't mean you aren't the reason the bulldozers are being operated.

    The government should listen to it's citizens and hear them out rather than spraying them with firehoses in the blistering cold to protect corporate interests. That's dishonorable and cowardly. I would go to unreached heights in order to spread awareness and gain support if this ever happened in my area with my tribe. It makes me absolutely sick that people will turn a blind eye to massive injustices such as this and go on believing the USA is a just, fair, "civilized" nation. That it's not corrupt and that it stands for freedom and democracy! If some of you care about the country so much why do rape, destroy and defile the very land it's built on?! Are you really going to try and justify the destruction of the pure and sacred environment and the North American ecosystem by saying it's for the greater good of the economy? And crying "oh but we need jobs??" And then the government and the corporations have the ridiculous gall to call environmentalists "devils"?? All they are is a putrid hoard of hypocrisy and narcissism. Go and make your money somewhere else and go and find better jobs that don't have a negative impact on the earth itself. I'm sick of the damn right wing crying "liberal soros propaganda" too, like Jesus Christ grow a damn brain you sad old losers... This is morals and ethics and it makes me sick how no workers ever have any empathy for the oppressed eithe, just standing their with cold emotionless faces as they sick dogs on the natives as if they believe what they're doing is right. Cowardly worms, all of them

      if we build a house it's with the faith that no one is going to build a oil line thru our back yard ... the oil line also threatens the water table ... I own property and my community deal with road expansion all the time..ammo concrete companies trying to exploit the water system.. the media nor the govt are going to protect your land "we" have to do it.. for capitalism to work we have to keep this type of progress in check.. so when progress comes knocking at my door my family and I will stand there with our middle fingers in the air and say come take it.. its not cool to sick dogs on people.. even for being dumb in some cases..

      jaymac1022 Actually no, pitbulls have and can kill german shepherds easily. They're much bulkier, and have been breed to clamp down and not let go.

    • @laela6289
      @laela6289 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      jaymac1022 Pitbulls do not need to be trained to attack. Its a natural instinct as product of their breeding. Watch the news, or read a statistic on how many fatalities are related to trained pits. It is a good thing they weren't that many pits, or they weren't encourage to sick, because some of those officers would've been carried to hospitals in white bags.

    • @laela6289

      jaymac1022 German shepherds were bred to be security dogs, not attack dogs. Pits were bred for dog-fights.
