- On September 3, the Dakota Access pipeline company attacked Native Americans with dogs and pepper spray as they protested against the $3.8 billion pipeline's construction. If completed, the pipeline would carry about 500,000 barrels of crude per day from North Dakota’s Bakken oilfield to Illinois. The project has faced months of resistance from the Standing Rock Sioux tribe and members of nearly 100 more tribes from across the U.S. and Canada.

You are repeating the single biggest misconception of this Bakken Pipeline project. Not 1 single foot of the pipeline is being built on Native American land. The Standing Rock Sioux tribe is protesting because its "near" their land. Its not on their land.

As for destroying the environment, were already sending oil by rail with is far more dangerous and impactful on the environment. All I'm saying, if you're not going to do something like that the right way, don't do it at all. It can be done right. Spend a bit more money on it. Have better engineering. That kind of thing takes ingenuity, time, patience, money and people that actually care about others and the world they live in. The thing is, protesting at the minimum wage workers won't stop anything. Protest at the law makers who let this happen or the corporate leaders calling the shots. There has to be EFFECTIVE protesting to bring change. Not a bunch of protestors acting like animals and putting their lives and their children's lives at risk. The pipeline will go over water sources that native americans use for their reservations. They don't want to have polluted drinking water. Plus there is a lawsuit citing that there wasn't proper permitting for the project anyways.
But it's not, if it was their land they would've showed them the deed to prove it and they would've called the cops instead of fleeing.
Just because the DAPL path will not be through the reservation doesn't mean it is not in Sioux territory. The Native Americans weren't forced onto the reservation until 1889. The Fort Laramie Treaty was signed in 1868. The DAPL path passes through their territory, the treaty stipulates that no white person or persons shall be permitted to settle upon, occupy, or to pass through any portion of the land without the consent of the Native Americans.
