    Awesome Device! Got mine connected to my Lenovo Smart Display (with Google Assistant), which is connected to a few home minis, and it works perfectly fine. Keep up the good work!

    I don’t know about this Honeywell, but you mentioned that you can only set schedules for the period of weekdays and weekends, but on your phone screen I see a panel that says “single day”. At least for my Honeywell, that page allows you to as you said for example, disable Friday if you don’t work.

      @@rubbercheesereviews I just stumbled on your video, I was thinking of getting it, so it has a password so no one can turn on or off, so I can only control the furnace, can you shut off your furnace while you are away and turn on the furnace using the phone? I just want simple feature just turn furnace on or off and set temperature using my phone to control the furnace. I don't want the expensive Over $200 USD I just want very cheap cost but not cheap made, I just want a simple very easy to use feature.

    • @rubbercheesereviews
      @rubbercheesereviews  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You need physical access to the unit - this MAY be different with the updated app (I now use a different thermostat), but I suspect not.

      @rubbercheesereviews  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I swapped mine out to an ecoBee3 Lite more than a year ago now (I was having frequent wifi connectivity issues with the T5), but I believe you can go to Menu and then scroll through the settings. I believe this needs to be done on the device (not the app).

    Just a tip to anyone reading this, if you have electric heat you shouldn’t let your house get too cold in winter and then ask it to warm up all at once when you get home. It will use more energy trying to warm the house back up from a very low temp

    • @joeythefoxxo
      @joeythefoxxo 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly. Simply lower the temp like 2-4 degrees. Never turn it off. Same with AC in the summer.

  • @johnstack5008

    What kind of savings on the heating bill can one expect to see with this compared to a regular thermostat set to 70F all the time?

    • @rubbercheesereviews
      @rubbercheesereviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      ecoBee (one of Honeywell's competitors) claims a 23% energy savings relative to leaving your thermostat at 72°F all the time. I've always used programmable thermostats so I don't have my own baseline. Use of a smart or programmable thermostat also can be programmed to save money if your area has Time-Of-Use pricing - for example, we 'overcool' our house in the evening to reduce the cooling load during peak electricity rate times.

  • @CountrySingerWannabe
    @CountrySingerWannabe 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Does this thermostat allow you to set a time limit rather than temp limit. In other words, I want to run my AC at night for a set time regardless of the temp it achieves. Just enough that I can fall asleep. Usually, as long as it's not too hot, I can stay asleep.

    • @rubbercheesereviews
      @rubbercheesereviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you can accomplish this one of two ways. 1) you can manually change the set point before bed, then select "hold until..." and pick a time a couple hours from then. or 2) if you have smart recovery disabled, you can use one of your schedule setpoints for this temporary temperature but have a new schedule setpoint a couple hours from then.

    What is the "C" wire you refer to?

    • @rubbercheesereviews
      @rubbercheesereviews  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The "c" wire is the common wire, and is normally blue. It supplies constant 24v AC power to the thermostat. Some older homes may not have it - my home had a spare wire between the furnace and thermostat, but I had to connect it to the furnace. You'll need a "C" wire for any smart thermostat to work fully, though I believe all of them have work-arounds (i.e. will work without a "c" wire, but some missing functionality).

  • @robertmccully2792
    @robertmccully2792 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Try not changing the temperature more than 3 degrees. It cost more to heat the house back up once it gets to cold.. I Tried it and it works. So 66 at night, and 69 when awake for instance.

    • @rubbercheesereviews
      @rubbercheesereviews  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've read that a few places, but I don't fully buy it. Heat transfer is directly proportional to temperature differential, so the bigger the drop, the better from that point of view. A couple sites suggest that dropping the temperature deposits condensation which increases heat loss, but since my relative humidity never exceeds 50%, I'm not convinced. Regardless, I now keep the house at 72° when home, and 65º when sleeping or away. I find this allows a quicker recovery and 65 is warm enough that I don't bother increasing the set point in the morning now.

    Is there a remote sensor that goes with the T5 through Wifi ?

    • @rubbercheesereviews
      @rubbercheesereviews  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are referring to a temperature sensor that tells the T5 the temperature of a different room, I don't believe so. ecoBee and Nest both offer those sensors. I now use an ecoBee3 Lite and have some sensors, but I prefer to not use them and instead adjust my ducts twice a year to optimize flow to the rooms we use the most.
