In my experience yes. I have a chapman ghost fret guitar with a red quilted maple top on the body and it sounds amazing. I also have The Evh striped series frankenstein relic guitar and plays beautifully

if you watch carlos - he plays the bass strings in the Am and D7(9) chords -or the 5 and 6 strings. it gives a fuller sound.
